Perfect from beginning to end.
Roxy, stick a fork in your forehead. And one in your eye.
Really? I completely forgot all about it, so I guess I gotta catch it online. I half expected it to kinda suck like I've been hearing the rest of the season has. I really only have been watching 'cause Samberg is hilarious.
This was one of the funniest SNL's I have seen in a long time. WHAT HAPPENED? Never could understand how it can go from unfunny to funny over the course of one week. Most the sketches were strong, and featured Will Ferrel. He may have had a lot to do with the writing. Nice to see Amy Poehler back on weekend update.Tom Hanks was a pleasant surprise. The jeopardy sketch had me in tears.

Daryl Hammond should have his own show where each week he plays Sean Connery.

Just so wonderful. Having Tom Hanks, Norm MacDonald, Amy Poehler there...everything was pitch-perfect, except for the Laurence Welk sketch (it's so much less hilarious the second time)
I found the closing sketch, will Will singing about his tour in Viet Nam absolutely brilliant! Perhaps the most funny yet moving sketch in a long while!
With this kind of endorsement, I'll have to watch the whole thing! I hadn't know about it. I just flipped on the channel at the very end and was like, "Why is Will Ferrell singing Goodnigh Saigon?"

Not to pick on you specifically, but in general this is the level of informed opinion that goes into the "SNL sucks/is lame" meme that floats around. Mister Roxy watches the cold open ("the political skit at the beginning was good"), barely notices the monologue, watches one or two sketches and then the nurses come around and tell the residents their TVs have to be turned off at midnight. From this he declares the show is lame.
For way more than half my life I feel that consistent viewing of SNL is a rewarding experience. Individual shows or chunks of shows may not be hilarious, but then something breaks through and goes stratospheric. But if you don't watch you don't see it. And if you don't watch you really aren't informed enough to declare the show sucks.
I am so ticked off. I fell asleep on it right after the Lawrence Welk skit and woke up with a half hour left in the show. I didn't watch the last half hour as I was meeting a friend for a late night drink.
That last sketch was insane. Just the Billy Joel song itself was great, but the fact that the entire cast, plus Elisabeth Moss, Paul Rudd, Artie Lange and Anne Hathaway (with a guitar!?) just materialized was awesome.
I also liked that Darrell Hammond was in a lot of sketches last night. He really doesn't get the chance to be on as much as he once did.

I don't know why, I have a hunch that Darrel Hammond calls the shots on how many appearances he'll do in a season. They were giving him that focus they often give in the closing shots when people are leaving, although he wasn't holding up a sign, which is usually a tell-tale clue.

He needs to leave already. The only thing he's good at is impressions, and now that McCain lost and Cheney is out of the spotlight, it's time for him to go. He's only staying because he knows his career will probably tank after he leaves, Tim Meadows-style.

Oh for crap's sake.
Guess I'll have to watch it then and form my own opinion. I've been able to catch some clips of previous episodes and all on the website, but just hearing from others that it's been going downhill has put me off investing the time to watch a full episode.
From what you all are saying, I'm going to definitely make a note to watch this episode. Glad to hear that I was under a misconception.
It really was a great episode. Very emotional. Celebrity Jeopardy was fantastic, but I would've rather seen Bill Hader's Peter O'Toole as opposed to Kristen's Kathie Lee - the jokes would've been virtually identical, anyway. The Goodnight Saigon sketch and Amy's return to Update were the two high points for me, anyway.
