I have not watched the show in a few years but I know many on here do. You might be interested in this news. According to Facebook Headline, Tarim Killam & Jay Pharoah will not be returning for the new season.

That's odd.
"I had sort of had it in my head I would make this upcoming year my last year, but then heard they weren't going to pick up my contract," [Killam] said in an interview with the publication. "I was never given a reason why, really. I can assume until the cows come home." -CNN
I've always thought that Jay Pharoah was an excellent addition to the SNL cast because all of his impressions are so spot on. SNL has always had cast members who could do impressions, but they've always been Caucasian. (Eddie Murphy did a very limited amount.)
Pharoah has bags and bags of really spot on impersonations of African-American men. I've always found that to be a unique and fresh addition to the show.

Yeah Taran will be a huge loss for the show. Who knows their reasoning? Not being privy to the contract negotiations that go on this time of year one can only guess. Wasn't it Horatio Sands, a few years back, who learned he wasn't going back to the show by being asked by the DJ interviewing him about how he felt about it?

Pharoah is a very gifted mimic, but I think he's a lousy comedic actor.
But, yeah, Taran is a big loss. Definitely the MVP of the male cast members.

i love Keenan, but his skits and impersonations have gotten old. We need some fresh blood.
taran and Jay have had miraculous runs on the show. I hope they continue to work.

Taran is directing a film and he told the powers that be that it could delay his return. They basically said. Fine. Don't. He had said he only wanted to do one more year anyway. Lorne doesn't take kindly to other peoples "interference" w his running of the show.

I have not been a fan of hers. However, I can tell she has the potential to be really funny But something seems off. Even in her car commercial. I would actually like to see her bumped up because it may allow her to show off her talent more. Just my opinion.

It is a very front heavy season this season due to the elections. I could see Lorne being upset about missing a few shows up front, if that is fact the reason he was not renewed.

But I do know I’m directing this movie [Why We’re Killing Guntherwith Arnold Schwarzenegger] and I’ll have two months of post-production that would have bled into the SNL production schedule, so we kind of communicated that.
I honestly don’t know what happened on the other side, but I do know we had expressed I have work on this film and in bonding this picture, that has to get cleared with SNL. And then [another offer] came up. I wasn’t going to have to take any time off to do it, but it was a thing that they would have had to okay.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but SNL doesn’t always like that when there are other things going on during the season.
I don’t know. I’ve seen it both ways, you know what I mean? That’s sort of the tough thing to know, even being behind the curtain at that show. Sometimes people are allowed to miss days out of the week to go film movies and sometimes you’re not allowed to do a guest spot. There’s no one right way or one wrong way and there’s really no rule book. But my feeling about it is I got my dream job. I set out to be on SNL and I got to do that and I did very well. And I love and adore and will forever have close ties and tight bonds with the brilliant, smartest, funniest people I’ve ever met in my life. So, I have no gripes at all. I am so, so, so lucky to have been given the time I’ve been given

I knew the movie was happening. Bobby Moynahan is performing in it and it was also written by his girlfriend. They were heading out to LA at the end of last season. I guess Taran's duty as director would keep him there a little longer. Too bad, Taran was fun to work with. Who knows? Maybe our paths will cross again.

VERY interesting! Given their track record, I think these two could be really fantastic head writers. Now, I'm actually excited about this new season.
