Posted: 6/14/06 at 2:03pmElphie, Honey I'm so sorry. *hugs* You are doing the right thing. If he is telling you that it is time then it is, it is kinder to do it now, than to let him suffer alone while you are away in July. Imagine how much worse it would have been if he had passed away while you were gone? You can say your goodbyes and know that you are doing the right thing for him.

I am very sorry for your loss, but if it's any comfort, just know that your cat really appreciates this decision.

Big hug for you. I had to put my Westie down because he started having seizures, big ones. When I took him to the vet, he suggested it. He was 16. He was peeing in his sleep. Then the next year, I found a kitty in my backyard lookomh for food. She was only a couple of months. I had her for 18 years. She started to get very thin at the end. I noticed her breath smelled and she had trouble chewing. I took her to the vet to she if he could pull some teeth to help her out. (How much in denial was I?) She did have an infection but she also had a failed liver. The signs were not there yet. He felt her abdomen. So instead of me getting her teeth fixed, he told me to put her to sleep. It was a year ago yesterday.
I know how it hurts. I have her ashes in my room, in a box, tied with a ribbon with her baby picture under the ribbon.

Posted: 6/14/06 at 3:54pmMy condolences to you. It is always sad when a pet is no longer a part of the family. Well, with the family anyways. A pet is always a part of the family, present or not.

Posted: 6/14/06 at 4:03pmI'm so sorry. It's hard to lose a beloved pet. AbbaRabbit beat me to posting about The Rainbow Bridge. That helped me, as well, in the loss of my first bunny.

well, it's over. He gave us a last little pee waiting in the doctors office (so like him to have the last word).
And then he stood on his hind feet and was hugging me. It was very bizarre, as he had never done that before....for like 15 minutes.
The doctor and nurse were great........he went so peacefully that I didn't know he was gone.......
We sat with him after for awhile.
What's interesting is I feel peaceful now, although I'm sure I'll come back like a vengence. Steve was fine until it happened, and now he's a basket case.
Again, thank you for all the kinds thoughts, it really helped with all of this.

I just got teary-eyed reading that, Elphaba.
It brought back memories of when I put my beloved dog down... Losing a pet is one of life's greatest sorrows.
Sending you sympathies, and hopes that you find comfort in the happy memories of years shared with this member of your family.

It's never an easy decision, but it's the best one for your kitty. Any suffering is gone, and now you both can be at peace. I had to put my dog down 2 years ago after 14 years, and I still miss him every day, but he has gone on to that big doggy playground in the sky. You still have your memories to get you through this - remember them with a smile.
