I got a chance to see Canadian songstress Sarah McLachlan in concert on Tuesday at Atlanta's Philips Arena. What an ethereal, soaring voice she has! Sarah opened the show with a rendition of "Fallen" from her latest CD and played a 2 hour set which included a mix of new songs and older hits like "Adia", "Angel","Sweet Surrender", "I Will Remember You", "Building a Mystery" and "Possession". Sarah sang 5 songs during her two encores which included a beautiful cover of the Beatles' classic "Blackbird" and crowd sing-a-long "Ice Cream". The stage set-up evoked the outdoors with (artificial) grass/moss covering portions of the stage and a hollow volcano which hid a drum set designed for the more acoustically oriented songs in the show. All in all, it was a great night of music and Sarah wowed the crowd with her incredible voice.
Who else amongst our family of BWW members likes Sarah's music?

It was SUCH an AWSOME concert!!!
I love Cyndi Lauper! I've actually seen her a couple of times. She puts on a great show. I'm sure that you'll have fun seeing her at the PNC Arts Center.
Like the theatre, live music is a passion of mine!
I like Sarah but I love Cyndi!! Enjoy the concert, Boobs. Everytime she sings "True Colors" I get the chills!
I compare Sarah's "Angel" to Cyndi's "True Colors"...both women give me chills and tears with those songs.

I'm glad that you enjoyed the show, too. Her voice is an amazing instrument, isn't it?! You are right that she hit lots of hiiiiiiigh notes ---and stayed on pitch!
I've been a huge fan of Sarah's for years (way before she hit it big in the States with Surfacing). She has one of the most angelic voices I've ever heard, and she has an intimate way of performing that makes you feel like she's singing about you, for you, and only you.
If you want to get an album of hers, get Fumbling Towards Ecstacy. Although Surfacing is her biggest-selling album, Fumbling Towards Ecstacy is by far her best one. It's one of my all-time favourite CDs.
Fumbling Towards Ecstasy has to be my favorite album of all time. There is something about it that never gets old. I love it.
"Full of Grace", off of Surfacing, reminds me of the songs on FTE. It has that same quality that the rest of that album lacks.
It's probably because "Full of Grace" is the oldest track on Surfacing, so therefore written chronologically closer to Fumbling. I believe it was written when Sarah was touring extensively for Fumbling, and fell into depression (not clinical - she was just sad and needed time off).
Actually, the song was originally called and sung "Fall from Grace," but when it came time to record it, Sarah was in a much better mood and felt the title was too negative.
I'm impressed with your knowledge. I'm ashamed that I didn't already know that. SHAME ON ME!!!
I love everything about that song.

Don't worry about it; I know random stuff about everything.
I can't wait to see the concert in a few weeks. I couldn't get good tickets in Toronto, but I got awesome seats in Montreal - so my friends and I are making a trip out of it. Good times!

I saw Cindy L. when she opened for Cher's Farewell concert. Earlyer that day, she had fallen off the stage and had to preform in a wheel-chair! And she put on the BEST show EVER!! She wheeled around the stage and had SOOOOOOOOO much energy!!!!
This all probably sounds stupied, but hey! try being in a wheel- chair and singing, wheeling yourself around, and doing everything else you have to do at a concert!!!
