He is not like the Republicans who get into office and then do easy stuff like lower taxes, pass expensive new programs and start wars on false pretext. And leave the next administration to pay the bill and sort out the mess.

yeah, obama would never do something like enact a gigantic new entitlement program which doesn't really kick in until after the next preseidential election.
besides, governin's hard y'all.

Yeah George W. Bush being handed a terrorist attack on 9/11 was easy stuff compared to what Obama has had to deal with.

Posted: 2/8/10 at 1:18pmYes Goth, 9/11 made George W. Bush's presidency. Democrats rallied round an inept Republican president because they felt it was important to present a united front in a time of crisis. I hope to God we never fall for that again.

@Goth: No one discounts the gravity of that situation but you Disciples of Reagan refuse to give the current administration credit for salvaging a nearly broken Republic. America's carcass is being picked apart by the "private equity class" which benefited immensely from the Bush-era tax cuts and "government-sanctioned mercenaries" who live off our fuggin' largess. And the housing meltdown impacts entire states, counties, municipalities, communities and untold households.
@PLM: You know I'll go toe-to-toe with you bro 'bout which party likes to dish out 'dem corporate bailouts. U really wanna go there??? Yeah, Obama has been far more GOP-like than many except you and I imagined possible. But, he had no choice given the hand he was dealt, and you (and Goth) know it.

Posted: 2/8/10 at 1:33pmno other choice my ass. the cbo had unemployment going no higher than 9% and saw growth by this year if he had done absolutely nothing. his actions have done nothing more than pay off political contributors. when faced with a crisis he chose to make hay by funneling billions to the special interests that supported him. that's fine, but don't rail against the evil gop when it's your boy who's taken the game to a new level.

@PLM:
1. That same CBO weighed in on the record deficit Obama "inherited" at least a month before he was sworn in. The Heritage Foundation has a lil' sumthin'-sumthin' to say about it as well.
2. To his credit, Obama quickly moved to uncloak the hidden "war costs" which his predecessor conveniently kept off the books. I think the Bush-Cheney cabal referred to them as "supplemental funding bills". Thank God for TRANSPARENCY. O's form ain't perfect, but it's a start at least.
3. Just like there is arguably no such thing as a corporation too large to fail, there is no such thing as a war that we cannot put a price tag on. Even Sun Tzu is attributed with suggesting that one must weigh the fuggin' cost of waging war as a precursor to putting up the dukes.
4. When we (well, the GOP that is) declare(s) the war on drugs over with Afghan poppy fields in plain sight and Mexican drug lords (oops, trading partners) killing with reckless abandon, we're talking out both sides of our mouths as a nation.
5. Heaven forbid Obama (or other Dem) suggest that the Cuban embargo should be lifted considering that we gotta a massive trade imbalance with the Paragon of Human Rights known as China.
6. And finally, with consumer confidence is at an all-time low, record number of home mortgages under water, manufacturing long gone off-shore, states/major cities on the verge of insolvency, and commercial credit all but dried up, the FED had to spend. Obama's stimulus was NOT enough. The public was panicking and growing desperate. TARP II, Wall Street bailout, and the timing of Big Insurance reform were major mistakes though.
Obama's $1.2 trillion inherited REAL deficit

The Heritage Foundation got their numbers wrong. Obama inherited $1.2 trillion deficit, not $400 billion
http://www.cato-at-liberty.org/2009/01/07/12-trillion-deficit/
But either way, it sure can't compare with inheriting a surplus as Bush did and promptly turning it into deficit with his tax cuts, war spending and Medicare Part D.

The economic mess we are/were in was much worse than first forecast.
I did not like TARP, but thought it was necessary to prevent full-scale meltdown (it should have been implemented by Bush et al with more controls like the UK model). But, we have recovered most of the TARP money lent, with the huge exception of AIG.
The Recovery Act was also necessary to break/prevent a second spiral of unemployment and contraction, especially in state and local government hiring. I also agree that we need to rebuild the country's infrastructure. So, for both Bush and Obama, while I do not like either TARP or the Recovery Act, I think both were necessary to prevent a repeat of 1929.
I am more curious about the offshoring of our military functions, and paying third party contractors billions of dollars to do the work that we used to do. Talk about paying off your friends and campaign donors. You can rail against Obama all you want, but Bush outsourced two wars, and made some companies very rich in the process. Bush did not have the balls to actually make use see how much his folly in Iraq cost, and instead, told us all to continue shopping and charging up our credit cards. Meanwhile, his party worked to make personal bankruptcy more difficult, and continued to consolidate media and finance into a few hands. I find any valid points that my GOP friends may have against Obama offset by the hypocrisy of them (at least most of them) not raising those very same issues during the Bush Administration. Situational ethics are not pretty, no matter what party is using them.
As for Sarah Palin, she is an entertaining loon who speaks not in facts, but in beliefs. It is impossible to used reason or facts to rebut her arguments, because she simply does not care about them. She will cite things like "Alaska is responsible for 20% of the US energy production" when that is factually wrong, and not give two licks. She is Father Coughlin in a dress and some really good shoes.

Watching Goth defend this piece of trash is an example on how pathetic the GOP is. It's like the family member on Family Feud who gives the dumbest answer yet the family cheers them on yelling, "Good Answer!"

SO many here call out Democrats and this President(including me) when they do something wrong but not the Republicans. Sarah Palin could blow her nose using an American flag and people like Goth will defend her no matter what. Bailin' Palin is a joke and an idiot!

Sarah Palin is currently a private citizen. She has no vote over whether we get healthcare or whether terrorists get a trial in NYC or any other vote that directly affects our lives.

You only "called out" those people because they weren't marching in lockstep enough, goth. Nice try though. Name one time you criticized a Republican for the kinds of things you criticize Democrats for all the time. Just one. As we've seen in the last year, many of the people who voted for Obama on here have been very vocal in their criticisms of him and the Democrats for doing the exact things they criticized the Republicans for. Consistency would go a long way.
And papa, my underpants are still talking about it.

Actually, Rush Limbaugh is the face and leader of the GOP.A friend of mine asked today if a Republican gets elected in 2012 will there still be tea party's? I doubt there will be just like those loons at the tea party's were silent during Bush's years.

Yeah, PLM's good people. He's not a complete ideologue like a couple others. For some odd reason, I feel sorry for Gen X & Y Republicans because their party has been hijacked by a drugged up blow hard named Rush and a simpleton named Sarah. The elephant in the room is that many of the older party faithful hate the RNC Chairman for the same reason that they hate the POTUS but that's a family secret best kept within the "family". Yeah, I went there!!! A sensible leader cannot emerge.
Why did Huck have no chance of coming out as the front runner during the primaries? Ans. the party faithful whispered amongst themselves that he's a Jesus Freak who'd consult with his Heavenly Father before kissing the garment hem of Rush Limbaugh the Christ or his vicar on earth Mel Gibson. Why did Romney not gain traction? Ans. he's a Mormon.
It was McCain's time at last, that is until his campaign was hijacked by the Hot Librarian from Wasilla.

She called for a third war- this one with Iran. What do you think of that?
I think it would actually be a fourth war. There's that one in Pakistan going on that no one wants to talk about.
