Couldn't find a thread (sorry if it's been discussed).
Any reviews of the place so far...I might go there today.

Posted: 9/7/10 at 11:08amLove it, but it is very crowded like the other locations. It wasn't too bad a wait though. Just be prepared to wait a little. My biggest gripe is the seating.

Posted: 9/7/10 at 12:24pmThe people love it. Some day I am going to have the shroom burger but only after I have had a LOT of vitamin E because that thing looks insanely unhealthy.

I love their hot dogs. Like all the locations in the city (I think four now?), there's always a line. However, I went to the Times Sq. location two Saturdays ago, mid-day, and it was dead. So I guess just avoid peak meal hours.
The lines do move swiftly, but yes- seating is an issue. All of the indoor locations have an inadequate amount of seating, and people are prone to hanging around after they've eaten.

Posted: 9/7/10 at 12:56pm^Yeah, I noticed that too. Or they'll grab a table if one is empty when they haven't even gotten their food yet and won't for awhile, leaving people in the front of the line without a place to sit.

I went during one of the rare times when there wasn't a line out the door and down the block.
The food was okay, no more. If I'd stood on line for any significant amount of time to get food so ordinary, I'd have been furious. I can't see wasting my time there again.
In short: a tourist trap.

Posted: 9/7/10 at 1:48pmSomewhat agree with Roscoe. The hamburgers were good, but no better than, say, 5 Guys.

Posted: 9/7/10 at 2:13pmI agree with Roscoe and Calvin - good, not great, and definitely not worth the wait or up to the hype.

I had the same reaction to the Shake Shack at CitiField and the queues for that during a ballgame can take close to an inning, possibly longer. It's good, not much a burger person to begin with, but not worth the wait.

Posted: 9/7/10 at 4:26pmMuch like most NYC food destinations (Magnolia Cupcakes, anyone?), it just doesn't live up to the hype, especially considering the price. Good stuff, but nothing to write home about.

Posted: 9/7/10 at 4:31pmI had my first Shake Shack burger @ Citifield, it was good but life altering. Not like my sister's 'Orgasm Lamb."

Posted: 9/7/10 at 4:34pmI only go for the concretes. Delicious! And the ice cream only line that gets me to the concretes is great.

Posted: 9/7/10 at 6:54pmOK, I finally went there today, out of curiousity and, quite frankly I thought it was the most over-hyped, overpriced tourist trap rip-off, bad burger & fry place I've ever been to. Maybe the sweets are better. Pretentious, (those stupid electronic buzzers!? oh, please...), heinous seating and the burger was a super thin piece of decimated, flavorless overcooked cardboard. McDonald's is probably better. The cheese fries were a flavorless, over-salted yucky mess, too. That was NOT real cheese. Sorry for the bad review...(I shoulda known better....),

They just opened a location in South Beach and soon will open in D.C. and Kuwait (???).
Speaking of burgers I would love an In-N-Out right about now.

Posted: 9/7/10 at 7:57pmI actually prefer the burgers here to huge chains like McDonalds because I don't get the pit feeling in my stomach. Oh well, everyone has different tastes.

I am a big Shake Shack fan (and a local), but I've only ever been to the location on Columbus and 78th Street. I've never had to wait longer than 20 minutes total, in line and for my food, and it usually doesn't take that long. I usually get a Double Shack burger.
For me, I think Five Guys is overrated (and dry) and that Shake Shack has the best fast food burgers, surpassing In-N-Out, which is nothing but oil.

To those who've already been there:
I'm on a restricted diet. Do they have veggie burgers or turkey burgers? Are all the buns white or can you choose from whole wheat or multi-grain? What about the fries? Do they serve sweet potato fries? Or vinegar-based coleslaw?
The answers to all those questions are probably resounding "no's".

Dollypop,
The buns are either white or potato (I forget which) but I don't think they have other options. They have a portobello burger which is deep fried, so not very healthy. They only have regular fries, no sweet potato fries (wish they did though...those are my favorite!) I'm pretty sure they don't have coleslaw at all.

It figures! I hounded Bobby Flay and now he serves healthy choices at his Burger Joints.
(Have you tried sweet potato fries dipped in sesame ginger sauce? Absolute bliss!)
Thanks for your input.

I *think* they have veggie burgers. They have potato buns. I think they only have potato fries.
I, for one, am in LOVE with the place. The food, the SHAKES, the vibe. And they have rare flavors. I tried "Plum Crumb" which was surprisingly delightful!

Posted: 9/7/10 at 11:53pmI don't know what y'all is smoking. Or NOT smoking. Shake Shack is one of the best fast-food burgers this side of In-N-Out. Head over to the original in Madison Square Park - for some reason, these outposts are good but have not been able to match the quality it still upholds down in the park. The outpost on 8th is very good, but first off I would suggest taking the food elsewhere, to Bryant Park or the TKTS steps. The burgers are still as juicy and delicious as I remember.
