Shine : A Physical, Emotional, and Spiritual Journey to Finding Love

Have something handy to heave into:

Star Jones Reynolds had done it all. College on scholarship, law school on loans, and life by faith. She had achieved a prestigious career as a lawyer and prosecutor, provided much-needed calm and insight while reporting the Rodney King and O. J. Simpson trials on television, and landed a spot cohosting one of America's most popular daytime television shows, The View. Then why was she feeling so down?

It all began when Star took a close look at herself and her life and realized she wasn't happy with what she saw: obesity precluded her from crossing her legs, she needed an asthma inhaler, she couldn't fasten her own necklace, and, worst of all, she got too tired to shop -- a disaster because Star Jones Reynolds is a seriously committed shopper.

Then she realized something else: with all her extraordinary accomplishments, none of it mattered without true love. Thinking long and hard, she finally understood that she hadn't yet met the man of her dreams because she wasn't ready for him.

Star decided to make it happen. She began a personal journey to reconstitute her physical look, emotional state, and already strong spirituality. Even if she didn't find love, it would be a win-win situation because she'd emerge from the experience a healthier, happier woman -- one who could truly shine. Unless you live on another planet, you know Star succeeded in her quest and did find true love -- and it wasn't that hard at all. In Shine, she shares it all in her wise, revealing, irreverent, laugh-out-loud style.

Shine is divided into three main sections, each exploring core issues of interest to women. Part One guides women toward being their most attractive physical selves using Star's personal secrets on losing weight and finding hair, fashion, and makeup chic (inexpensively). Part Two asks tough questions about emotional preparedness for a relationship and shows you how to think like lawyers, and how to get your financial and emotional houses in order. Part Three delves into a woman's spiritual life -- discover how to talk to God no matter what your religion. Spiking the book are Star's "absolutes" -- truisms that have always worked for her and continue to give her guidance -- quizzes and self-assessment exercises that will help you focus on your particular strengths and weaknesses.

Everyone knows Star Jones Reynolds is a success story, a happy, rough-edges -to-emotional- and-financial-riches tale. Until you read this book, you won't know how she got there -- and how you can echo her triumphs and shine.

SHINE is one of my favorite movies ever, and it is completely offensive to me that it will now be associated with this . . . person.

It won't be, DG.

She makes me sick, though.

Calling CELEBRITY AUTOBIOGRAPHY on Bravo.....hell, it sounds like they could make a whole damn show on this book alone!

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

Rath - you should piggy back this book with Nancy Reagan's autobiogrophy. Maybe for mother's day.

I was thinking the same thing, that this will be prime material for 'Celebrity Autobiography' - Nicey Nash will be a perfect Star!

The thing that kind of upsets me about this book (other than the obvious), is that a lot of people (or should I say women, since I hope most respecting gay men won't buy or believe) will take to heart the c*$p she is shoveling down their throats...not realizing that the weight loss is most likely due to surgery (which I have had and shout about it from the rooftops - it is not something to be ashamed of), and her 'husband' is strongly rumoured to be gay.

So the whole premise of the book is built on sand.

Does it include pictures of Star's stomach stapling and liposuction procedures? How about the strap-on she used for Al on the wedding night?

they forgot to print the subtitle!

Suzanne: I never use catalogs. I'd rather go in the store and see all the salespeople groveling and sucking up to you. Julia: Pardon me, I never knew they were so solicitous at the K-Mart.

I'm speechless.......... but I have a feeling some of you b*tches won't be after reading the following interview with Miss Jones-Reynolds from today's Post:

STAR Jones Reynolds is shining. Her hair is shining. Her lips are shining. Her bling is shining.
"I am on the journey toward shining," she clarifies, sitting at The Core Club yesterday to promote the nationwide release of her book "Shine: A Physical, Emotional, & Spiritual Journey to Finding Love."

How to best explain this? Well, it's like a victim of Hurricane Katrina was telling her recently, Star Jones gives people hope.

"She said, 'You know what?'" Jones recalls. " 'I haven't lost everything.'"

Yes, Jones is taking her message of emotional fulfillment and weight reduction on a 30-city bookstore tour - starting with a signing in Harlem on Saturday and then, on Monday, a symbolic march with "View" audience members from the set of the show to the Lincoln Center Barnes & Noble for a book signing.

In "Shine," Star tells her fans what it takes to be Star - recounting her own journey of finding and marrying the fellow she describes as being practically perfect (and "a little mystery" doesn't hurt either, she says in the book). You may recall her lavishly large "sponsored" wedding to Al Reynolds, an investment banker, in 2004. In her book, she writes in intimate detail about the sacrifices the two of them made for the sake of their love.

"First of all, when Al and I met I was sort of feeling myself," says the full-figured talk-show host, who is now a fraction of the self-described "morbidly obese" woman she once was. "I had lost about 50 pounds. I was feeling a little sexier - and have you seen him?"

She smiles.

"He is gorgeous. I'm talking gorgeous, and I hate saying that because then his head gets all big. And when we were running toward each other in slow motion because, I mean, c'mon, we are young and healthy adult people, living in modern times, and we just went berserk for each other. And Al and I very quickly realized that this was serious for us but that kind of crazy, over-the-top passion can peter out."

Hence, the celibacy.

"I was interested in a husband, not a booty call, and Al was interested in a wife, not a sex partner," she says.

However, things are heating up for Miss Jones Reynolds, who starting Monday is also going to be the new "love coach" for AOL, where she will dispense advice about a range of sexy subject matter that contributes to her shining lifestyle.

"I'm not an advice columnist. I'm not a diet specialist," she says. "I'm pretty good at love and romance because my husband and I have that down to a science, which is probably why I'm the new AOL love coach. Isn't that hot?"

She's online for workshops on how to shine in the bedroom. "It's not about me, me, me, me, me. It's not about Star puts her right leg over her left shoulder and that's what makes her sexy," she says. "It might be kind of hot, but it wouldn't make me sexy."
