Just want you guys to concern about this and to know how bad the Chinese gorvernment is:
Background
All for the Beijing Olympics 2008
It is said that Beijing is in the know of the massive killings. Unfortunately, rabies is to be stamped out at the expense of dogs' lives. Actually, this is linked to the upcoming Beijing Olympics. Sources say that while dog killing is not considered unscrupulous in such developed cities as Beijing and Shanghai,
dogs are simply forbidden in the four Urban Zones. This is to ensure the capital's ‘health and hygiene'before the Olympic Game. Should anyone wish to keep dogs, (s)he has to keep the dog out of the four Urban Zones. The length of a dog should not exceed 38cm.
The cause
July 2006 saw a rabies outbreak in Yunan, China causing a death of 16 people. Scared of this contagious disease, Yunan people soon developed a phobia of dogs. Many people panicked and abandoned their once beloved pets. Stray dogs are everywhere in Yunan.
To curb the spread, the authorities formed some ‘Special Extermination Teams'.
in collaboration with the police officers in China (‘Gongan'), the Teams kill all the stray dogs in their radar screen. Dog bodies pile up in every corner of the streets of Yunan.
The Teams even break into residential buildings in search for unlicensed dogs, which, if found, are immediately dragged out and killed. Licensing a dog in China can cost up to RMB10,000, which is exorbitant by PRC standard. People who cannot afford can only helplessly watch their canine friends die.
How they are killed
Small to medium-sized dogs are bashed with clubs, smashed with bricks, shot with pistols, or drowned in water. It is allegedly said that breeds such as Rottweiler and Doberman are sent straight to zoos as a feast for the lions and tigers.
In just a matter of months, the Yunan bloody crackdown swept through Shandong, Niaoning, as well as the Guangdong province. Dogs seized from homes are packed in special cars taking them to where the destiny is headed.
Furtive dog owners
The Teams line up alongside the police officers to wipe out dogs at the provincial and municipal levels. Dog lovers are terror-stricken,‘I used to walk my dog(s), but now I'm scared off.' The more well-off have their dogs' vocal cords removed in order not to be located. Some also try to hide away from the slaughter by moving to suburban area.
Ripping off the dog owners
The teams slightly lower their sail as the news circulated. They start urging the owners to get rabies jab for their dogs. The Teams rip off the owners by charging RMB100 per jab, while the market price is only RMB30. Some Teams even take the opportunity to seize and take possession of quality pedigree dogs. They might charge the owners a fortune to redeem the dogs.
Over half a million dogs killed
Since July, there has been over half a million dogs killed nation-wide. And the Teams do not call it quits. A lot of dog owners wish to summon up support from overseas, but websites and forums concerned have been blocked. Even the reporters on the scene had a narrow escape from violent beatings.
The slaughtering has come to an insane level. Dogs in China are living in dark ages now. Though I'm a Chinese from Hong Kong, I think this is too far. Please spread this word to others so that more people in the world can be aware of this.
