re: So You Think You Can Dance

I think it'll be between Benji and Allison. I wouldn't be disapointed if either of them won.. but I love Benji.

I thought she deserved to win. Certainly over Mr. Peterman, anyway.

My Top Three GUys are (in Order)

Tavis
Ivan
Benji

Top Three Girls

Allison
Donyelle
Martha

(though, with Donyelle's injury it's likely she could be gone soon which would move Natalie into third. The girls competetion is a lot closer than the guys i feel.)

Dmetry needs to go, all he can do is Ballroom. He's played out. But with it now no longer being the judges decision, Dmetry's chest will be enough to keep him int he ocmpetetion because the shallow gays and girls won't be able to see past his abs to the fact that he no longer belongs in the competetion.

and as for the dissing of Ivan, He seems to be the most improved, and most well rounded male dancer in the competetion. Is he the most technically impressive? Not Always, but he is one of the best dancers left.

re: So You Think You Can Dance

Dmitry's chest hasn't kept him out of the bottom three, with the public voting.
#307

re: So You Think You Can Dance

right, but he's lost three partners. That means 3 girls who have been eliminated. they clearly negatively affected his chances. but now that voting is based on individuals, and will come after a solo dance, he'll have plenty of time to go topless before the public votes.

re: So You Think You Can Dance

Ace, I agree that Ivan is the most improved, but he is in no way the most well-rounded male dancer in the competition. I think his contemporary this week showed that he has the ability to grow even further. It would be interesting to see him again in a year.

re: So You Think You Can Dance

there's two girls and two boys that will make the top 4 finals. if i had my way it would be travis, allison, donyelle(sp) (i really hope she gets better she is so amazing), and benji.

when benji did that high kick during the hairspray number.. wow. i didn't know he could do that. and better than the jazz and ballet trained dancers too...

travis is my pick to win. allison is my runner up. i absolutely adore travis and now that he's away from martha (who i dont like nearly as much and was too tall for him) he can own this competition. as much as i adore him, i wouldn't mind if allison won either.. i guess. i'd be upset, but i'd know an awesome dancer won. quite honestly she's done nothing spectacular IMO, besides that contemporary. that was amazing.

travis made me shed a tear the other night.. about his mom. i felt like such a dork. :)

To kick start the week's discussion a day early, Blake, from last year's show, was in the New York Times Arts and leisure section on Sunday. The article was about choreographers creating TV commercials. Blake is one of the dancers, and his photo appeared with the article.

Also, his website, blakemcgrath.com, is topnotch.

That is why I keep trying to keep this thread alive in between viewings, as an antidote to the withdrawal symptoms!

*pops her head in* Yay for other fans of this show! I'm extremely excited as well for tonight. I think all of the dancers are spectacular, especially Natalie and Travis. Dmitri annoys me a little bit, but that's another story. I'm looking forward to the performances tonight though.

re: So You Think You Can Dance

I don't find him annoying, in the slightest; but, I do think he is out of his league, as a dancer. Given the skills of who's left in the competition.

re: So You Think You Can Dance

haha Now don't get me wrong, I think he's a great dancer, but to me it seems like he's just showing off his body too much. Now he is incredibly good looking, but if he's getting his votes from America just based on his chest and not his actual dance talent. That forces me away from him a bit. Now I can be wrong about the voting/etc. but it seems to me as if he's just a little too "Here's my body come look! Oh yeah, I can dance too."

I agree with JohnBoy, but, ponine, if I had that body I would be shirtless at work right now!

re: So You Think You Can Dance

hahaha. Well I still stick by my statement. Annoying wasn't the right word, so I take that back. Judging by the end of his solo tonight (ripping his shirt off...surprise, surprise), I still don't think he's up with the other dancers. However, during his duet with Donyelle, I felt that he did better than she did.

Which brings me to this: What is Donyelle's appeal? All the judges adore her and think that she's the greatest. I simply don't see it.

re: So You Think You Can Dance

First, to respond to ponine, Donyelle is a versatile dancer, as witnessed by her solo tonight in her style, hip hop. Having not seen her do that before, it was a surprise to me. She is also an entertainer who can work an audience. Above all, I think the impressive thing is that she does it without a typical dancer's figure. She is a sexy woman. Not to mention she is fighting through an injury to her foot!

Okay, now on to tonight's show. First let me say that this was the worst panel of judges this season. Other than Nigel's comments, there was not much of value offered to the dancers.

Now some random thoughts: Benji, who looked really cute tonight, is wrapping this competition up; he was great tonight across the board.

Dmitry and Artem ... now THERE'S a hot couple!

The routine of the night was Heidi and Ivan's contemporary by Mia Michaels, both choreographically and in performance. It was stunning.

In my opinion, the two dancers who should (not necessarily will) find themselves on the short end tomorrow night are Martha and Ivan. Dmitry is neck and neck with Ivan, but his body gives him the edge.

Now, I must confess that I am a big geek, and I took notes during the show. If you don't care about them you can stop reading. If you do care, they follow:

Martha and Ivan hip hop boring choreo Martha was weak; Martha's solo, like much of what she has done, had no oomph, nothing from inside; Ivan's solo had some character, a little heart, a sweetness; smooth waltz - ivan does not have the strength to pull off some of the dips, he was better than i thought he was going to be, he certainly works toward style

Donyelle solo rocked very surprising; Dmitry solo - oh lord; Lindy Hop awesome routine, so athletic, dmitry was too technical, i agree with him lacking style; samba, donyelle was weak stylistically, but she is still sexy, dmitry was in his element

Heidi and Travis paso doble, again boring, not a great paso doble; heidi solo sexy, she's an entertainer; travis is a technician, the moments trying to connect with the song were simply rests in between technical moments; contemporary - heidi needs to trust herself, that was the routine of the night, choreographically and performance, i even liked travis!

Allison and Ryan an incredible, athletic, difficult routine by Mia Michaels, but so off-putting for a tv audience i think ... they were great ... broadway - great routine, allison has a tremendous personality on stage, agree with nigel about dropping her hat, she is a smart performer; allison is another technician with the personaity to back it up; ryan is an incredible, boring dancer

Natalie and Benji a great routine uncomplicated by awkward story, Benji is fabulous, he is a great technician, surprisingly; natalie - too bad she had to stop so soon, she was just getting started, unlike travis, she has the emotion to back up her technique; benji is trying to lock this competition up; hip hop great routine

re: So You Think You Can Dance

My very long post that includes my opinions of the night:
Donyelle: I love that woman. She's such a great dancer. She can control her energry (Viennese Waltz vs. Hairspray). She looks good infront of the camera. She's like a cameleon (sp?)
Dmitry: I agree with ponine. I don't think he's that great of a dancer. I mean if he's just getting votes for taking his shirt off, that's wrong. I think he should've gotten out last week intsead of Musa.
Travis: I love the contemporary (sp?) dance he did with Heidi. Especially the part w/ the hands against the bench. I was truly touched. I also loved his solo performance. Just an amazing contemporary performer.
Heidi: Her solo was amazing. Love her. She & Travis had good chemistry. I can't remember anything...
Benji: I love this guy so much. He's dances sooo amazingly. He's my favorite. I want him to win. The End. Ok, not really.
Natalie I liked her solo from last week when she did like leg twisting thing or w/e that was. I liked her & Benji's hip-hop routine. That booty popping was crazy even though you couldnt really see it. It reminded me of Benji & Donyelle doing 2 Much Booty in Da Pants. With the matching outfits.
Ivan His solo wasn't that great. It was cute, I guess w/ the Heelys. He dancing was still good w/ Martha.
Martha: She didn't really stick-out. I think she's the next girl to get out. Her solo wasn't that good. I mean it was cute-ish.
Ryan I think he's the next guy to get out. Or Ivan. The contemporary was kinda cool. Didn't impress me all that much.
Allison: She was just plain adorable during Bye Bye Birdie. She's like the best girl dancer.
