I am sure many of them tap, but since it's not a type of dance the show features- the dancers just don't mention it.
I think it would be hot if they busted out some tap during a Broadway routine.

My favorite dance last night was by far the one choreographed by Mia. Lacey and Kameron were given great choreography and pulled it off flawlessly. I absolutely loved it!
I also really likes Wade's choreography. It was something I didn't expect to see or like, but I ended up loving it.
Ashlee and Ricky were just...there. They almost seemed like they were just fillers for the show. They both just looked dead throughout the entire performance, and it just was...not good.

My favorite routine last night was Lacey & Kameron as well. So beautiful.
I also really like Jessi. Even though her routine wasn't incredibly thrilling to watch, she is still one of my favorites based on what she did in Vegas. It also doesn't hurt that she's smokin' hot (and not 18 years old like most of the other girls this season).

So who's going home tonight?
I'm personally pulling for Danny Tidwell to win this thing! Although he is such a name in the dance industry, probably someone less well known would profit the most from winning.

Posted: 6/14/07 at 8:57pmI think Danny is incredibly talented, but I'm not sure if I want him to win. I'm not wishing anything ill upon him. He's already been in ABT, which means he already KNOWS that he can dance and get a job. I'm kind of hoping someone who doesn't already have "connections" will win. We'll see.

(As an FYI, most of this was typed as I watched the show. The parenthetical remarks were made during the judges comments during the elimination.)
Well, that opening number was another, "Hmm" for me. While very interesting to watch, Wade Robson’s choreography seems to be style over substance. Please don’t get me wrong; I know it is difficult. I did, however, appreciate the contemporary take on the "Rich Man’s Frug" from "Sweet Charity."
No surprises in the bottom three: Sabra and Dominic, Ashlee and Ricky, and Faina and Cedric. Despite what Mary said, based on last night, Faina and Cedric deserved to be in the bottom three. It is the challenge of the way the contest is structured. Some dancers get a tough break having to dance styles that are completely foreign to them. The other challenge is for the dancers who get to dance their style (Cedric) with a partner with no experience in that style and will therefore bring the other down. Obviously I was wrong about Sara and Jesus. As you can tell from my comments about the opening, it’s just not my favorite style.
If possible, I think Benji has gotten even better. This year’s contestants need to take a page from his book and learn how to work an audience! As for those underpants ... well ... um ...
Sabra: I am stunned that she has only been dancing for four years. A great solo. She is one of my favorites, and I am eager to see her in more styles. Oh, and I almost didn’t recognize her with straight hair!
Dominic: While I don’t really dig the style, I am amazed what these "b-boys" can do. They prove that the human body is an amazing thing. A very exciting, CROWD-PLEASING solo.
Ashlee: I was a bit disappointed by her performance. One of the things these solos need to do is please the television audience, even though they are not voting tonight. I don’t think this was enough to entice people to vote for her in the future if she stays. (Nigel put it very well, that she relied too much on emotion and didn’t show the full vocabulary of movement. I guess that’s why he is one of the judges, and I am some random fan posting here and blogging on Myspace!)
Ricky: Wow. Trick-filled and crowd-pleasing. He is, no doubt, a great dancer, but I sense that attitude in his performance, which is a turn-off for me. Did anyone else get the feeling that was an improv? (Maybe that is what Nigel meant about Ricky not showing his full potential in his solo tonight.)
Faina: Well, um, d*mn, she looked hot. Very sexy. A crowd-pleasing solo ... for the straight men who are watching ... and the gay men who now want to be Faina.
Cedric: Hmm ... a little disappointing. From everything the judges have said, Cedric is amazing. I didn’t see it here.
If I was a judge, based on these solos alone, I would send Ashlee and Cedric home.
Well, color me surprised that Cedric is safe. Of course, the judges have more information about their overall performance levels.
Wow. I am stunned about Ricky’s early departure. It is a shame that we won’t get to see him dance a Mia Michaels’ creation. Again, based on the solos, I think Cedric should have gone. However, with the attitude I sense, I think I would have tired of Ricky soon enough. I don’t think Cedric will win the whole thing.

I'm all for Neil. And I would be quite happy if Neil turned out to be the Travis of this season... Only winning would be nice :) I thought Travis had tons of emotion. Most people were blinded to it, though, because he, unfortunately, kept doing the same moves and tricks and people noticed it. I will always be a Travis Wall fan. I loved seeing him, Benji, and Ivan sitting behind the choreographers.
This season looks good, but am I alone in disagreeing with the judges that this is the best yet Seasons 1 & 2 were much more exciting than how this has started out. Minus a couple, everyone's sort of "blah" or "well, I've seen that ten times before." But it's quite entertaining and a talented group of kids (and when I say kids, I mean kids).
I've already had some favorite moments:
- Mary Murphy's "Hot Tamale Train." It's already a catch phrase in my circle of friends.
- Neil's reaction when Dan told him to look at who his partner was :) Priceless.
- Seeing Ben from season 2 in the background during one of the choreography segments.
- Benji's underwear.
Just to name a few.

Ashlee and Ricky.
I agree with Ashlee going home, her solo was just boring. I think Ricky should have stayed because he is an excellent dancer, but his attitude kind of bugged me. I think the judges wanted to keep the b-boys in the competition a bit longer, because they make for good TV.

Although I dislike Ricky's personality I don't think he should have gone home first. I would have rather seen Cedric go.
Ashlee, while adorable was so boring. I agree with her dismissal from the competition.
#86re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!
Posted: 6/15/07 at 11:09amOh, I am sure Travis did dance with emotion; he just never shared it with the audience. It was all internal.

Ashlee was definitely the right choice. I was very unhappy that Ricky went home. Like most others I'm not a huge fan of him personally, but he's a damn good dancer and deserved to stay over Dominic. I do agree his solo looked improved, but the stuff about him not showing his whole potential was a little out of wack. I thought he did great.
I thought Cedric did very good. I believe that he was fighting back tears, which means he knows what this competition means to all the people who have been training since they were two, and will bring it as much as he can every chance he gets. Granted, I don't want him to win, but a couple more weeks would be OK with me.
I wanted Dominic to go. There's nothing there that I haven't seen hundreds of other times in the history of the show. He's nothing special.

#90re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!
Posted: 6/15/07 at 8:22pmMia's choreography is incredible! I will never forget that park bench number from last year that Heidi and Travis did. However, isn't it ironic that her two favorite dancers went home- Do the other judges not like her. Ricky is an incredible dancer and should have stayed!

I know I'm a little late, but Lacey and Cam were the best the other night. And, I'm not a fan of Lacey, but she was awesome.
Ohh....Wade Robinson is Brilliant.

I love that Neil put this in his bio:
7. Who is your favorite professional dancer?
Charlie Hodges as well as anyone from Times They Are A-Changin.
12. What has been your most memorable dance experience?
Dancing on Broadway in The Times They Are A-Changin was the greatest experience ever. This show will always be the show that stays closest to my heart.

Wow did anyone watch? Yay for Neil Haskell. They said that he had just set the bar for the night! Anyone want to vote for him? 1-888-836-7601
He really kicked it tonight! Go Neil!

Posted: 6/20/07 at 10:58pmLove Lacey! Also thought Danny was incredible. Neil was very good but I don't see the chemistry yet. I'm not a fan of his partner for some reason. Paso Doble to Queen was really odd!

I found myself (and I'm a dancer, too) not liking a lot of the dances that the judges seemed to adore. Dominic's contemporary for one. I was ready for him to get smashed by Mia. I thought he should've gone instead of Ricky. But the little video before the dance was a little funny :)
I guess I'm the only one who doesn't really get the allure of Lacey. Yay, she's the winner's sister. Yay she simply reeks Heidi. She just doesn't do it for me. She reminds me of Ashley Simpson, but more sex kitten. I don't know. It's probably just me. She is talented, though, but just not for me. Kameron is damn sexy though :)
I have a thing with Tyce's choreography... I either hate it or love it. It's hit or miss with me. He's choreographed some really heinous broadway and jazz pieces.. and yet some really good ones. The one last week was great. The two this week were bad. It felt really awkward to see people dancing to an overture, and that was a boring dance on top of that.
I LOVED Neil/Lauren's hip hop (minus her outfit lol. I would never dance hip hop in that. That was really the only one that stood out. Anya and Danny's (I think those guys are partners.. still learning names) waltz was gorgeous. The last hip hop was good too, but nothing beats Shane Sparks. I missed him and Wade this week.

I am late in posting this tonight, as I spent the evening at Ameriquest Field in Arlington, Texas to see the Texas Rangers play the Chicago Cubs. Most importantly, I saw Sammy Sosa hit his 600th career home run. It was a great moment. Now, you can ponder how odd it is that a post about "So You Think You Can Dance" begins with a sports story, while I offer this general note about tonight’s show: ATTENTION COSTUME DESIGNERS: what are you thinking when you are dressing some of those girls?!? Several of those costumes were unflattering and did nothing for the style or choreography (Lauren, Sabra, Anya, Sara).
With that out of the way, here are my thoughts on the performances:
Lauren & Neil: This surprised me, as Neil was better than I expected and Lauren was not as good as I thought she would be. In a clip last week, one of the judges, during the audition phase, said they were worried that Neil didn’t have much between the tricks. I have wondered the same thing while watching the audition clips that have been shown. So, I did not expect Neil to do well with hip hop. Their chemistry is developing. Oh, what is up with Neil’s tube socks (the show’s opener)?!?
Jessi & Pasha: Great sensual, fun choreography from Tyce (I think my favorite of his, since I am not a big fan), and they were great doing it. They captured the style and mood perfectly. So far, I think Pasha is the best all-around male ballroom dancer on any season (other than Benji, who is in a different category as a swing dancer). I know it is only week two, so I may have to eat those words, but I don’t think my boyfriend Dmitry could have pulled that off last season.
Jaimie & Hok: (Personality comments out of the way first: Jaimie bugs. A little too perky for me, but I love her as a dancer. Hok, however, is charming.) I am not sure how this was as a samba, but it seemed a little sloppy. (Thanks for backing me up Mary.) Jaimie, however, is a very sexy dancer, who I think will stick around for a while. Hok performed well.
Sabra & Dominic: Beautiful. Beautifully choreographed and performed. They both demonstrated such joy. There was one moment when they looked at each other, and you could tell that they were so glad to be doing what they were doing and to be doing it with each other. Sabra is still one of my favorites, and Dominic earned my respect tonight.
Faina & Cedric: Initial thought: "Cedric and the fox trot ... uh oh." Thought after seeing the number: "Cedric and the fox trot ... uh oh." Poor Faina was well brought down by having a weak partner. She is a beautiful dancer, but we have yet to see it because of him. This did nothing to change my mind that he should have been the one to go home last week. I am very disappointed. I think they again will be in the bottom three.
Lacey & Kameron: Okay, first of all, what exactly is "Broadway" choreography?!? Considering that "Spring Awakening" won the Tony for choreography this year, to use "Broadway" as a singular style seems to be a stretch. Lacey again leaves me with the impression that she can do anything that is thrown her way. She is a very mature dancer, especially considering her youth. Let’s see what happens when she gets hip hop. Kameron did well but was outshined by Lacey, who looked like Lisa Marie Presley tonight.
Anya & Danny: How does Anya, as a ballroom dancer, not know the Viennese Waltz?!? Beautifully performed if a little boring choreographically (except for the back attitude turn). They are well matched as partners. I have to agree with Mia about Danny’s hands, but I offer a caveat. He has beautiful hands, but, as I mentioned last week, I am afraid that they will carry over from his ballet background into every style and, ultimately, be out of place.
Shauna & Jimmy: Pretty good until the step section, which was pretty weak. At that point, it really showed that this was not their style. They fought against it until then, having a great time, but they suddenly really lacked the hip hop attitude. (That is not the word I want, but I can’t think of the one I want.)
Sara and Jesus: Paso doble, sexy and sensual, is one of my favorite dances. Choreographically, this was a great contemporary take on the dance. Jesus had great presence and passion. Sara, however, was weak. Her posture was poor, and she did not capture the style of this fiery Latin dance.
My top couples tonight are Jessi and Pasha with their Afro-Cuban inspired birds; and Sabra and Dominic’s contemporary routine. In addition, Neil, Lacey and Jesus impressed me tonight.
Faina and Cedric will be in the bottom three without question. I think Sara and Jesus might be there as well, along with Jaimie and Hok.
