Great overall review DBillyP!

Did any of those dancers during their interviews say, "Dancing is my life, it's the only thing I want to do." ?

"Zac is sweet as can be. He's very much just a sweet kid from California who happens to have a face that looks like it was drawn by Michelangelo, (if Michelangelo did anime)."

^I don't believe so, which surprised me, but the producers may have said "Other than dancing....". I don't know.

I think that, in general, I didn't like a lot of the choreography last night. Sure, there was some stuff I loved, but the rest was jut boring. It was really an upsetting week. I don't have time to review now, but I thought most of the dances last night could have been much better.

Tchi, I agree. Nothing completely wowed me last night. The judges keep talking about the level of competition being so much higher this year. I think they are trying to convince themselves.

well, i have to say that i was so excited for shauna to get to dance mia's choreography, but in fact, that was my least favorite mia routine in recent history. i was extremely disappointed that cedric just sat there crying, poor choice from both him and mia.

lauren and neil also really disappointed me last night because i really like both of them, and think that they should be great, but they never really are. there's something lacking. maybe if they can make it to the top 10, they'll do better with other partners? i think lauren is a better performer, and neil just misses something in getting the dance across to the audience.

my other bottom 3 couple is anya and danny. i love anya. i think she is a fabulous dancer, really trying hard and working, and it shows. danny is just stuck in one style and can't change his body or mind to others. i thought his hip hop was really weak. there was a part of me that wanted him and cedric to change because then danny would get to do mia's contemporary and cedric do dan's hip hop. but that's not what the competition is about, is it?

as for lacey and kameron, sara and jesus, jamie and hok, sabra and dominic. i thought they all executed their dances very well and were excellent performers. i thought jamie and hok were the best of the night (though you're right, their routine was not jazz, it was modern-influenced). i thought the duality that appeared onstage and its resolution was simply beautiful. they dance together very well, but i can't stand her in the interviews. jamie sounds like a 10 year old who is going outside for the first time. keep the mouth shut and just dance baby!

then we get to pasha. poor pasha. he's such an excellent performer and he really did what he could last night. i think he will absolutely be safe. BUT, i couldn't believe how weak i thought his partner was, since she was the professional teacher, and mary's comments made it seem like she was amazing. i thought about it and figured, she hasn't been putting her whole life into this routine for the past week. she just knew enough to help him get by, and probably only had one run-through with him. more kudos to him for being able to do all the lifts with her. going from jessi, he sure got his muscle work for the day.

hopefully jessi will be able to dance for her life tonight, but after last week's solo and nigel's comments about her status, not only do i doubt she can make it, but i doubt she would stay even if she could dance tonight. i think she'll be the girl sent home tonight

for the boys, obviously i think it's going to be cedric. he's not up to par and he's letting us, as an audience down, just as much as faina or shauna or nigel or mary. he seemed articulate and intelligent enough to actually understand his problems and want to address them. i think he'll do wonderfully at debbie's academy, and that is where he should be, not on this show. other than that, danny is my least favorite, but he can wait until next week. i forsee a partnership between shauna and pasha in the making, which would be great i think.

sidenote, debbie is fabulous, everything about her.

and kameron, i don't know. he sure seems gay, but there's something that stops me from assuming so. the total package and the sum of the parts just don't equal. but i sure wish he was!

aww I really like Lauren and Neil...re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

I don't know, Lacey is great. Well, she's a great performer. But there's just something about her...I'm not sure why, but I'm just not sold on her.

And Danny Tidwell is in the bottom three America. Good job, good job.

EDIT: What an awful decision on the judges part. Jesse? JESSE I ask you?? She will be missed...Jesus too. (big sigh)

Pasha's dance partner for the evening, Melanie, was actually a phenomenal dancer in her day. I used to watch her and Tony Meredith on the PBS ballroom specials. I know she has her own dance studio on Times Square and was once on What Not To Wear. Her friends turned her in for wearing too much black. She's heavier than her competition days and that may have been a factor. But remember, she wasn't even prepared to dance that night. She did a great job for having to step in- but then again, who wouln't want to dance with a sexy partner like Pasha. I hope ABC brings his family in for a reunion!

^OMG! I KNEW I recognized her from something! What Not To Wear! That had to be it. Haha. And yet again, the judges made the wrong decision, but really, anyone that was in the bottom could have gone tonight and I wouldn't have cared, except for Neil. He is wonderful.

I only saw the last part and haven't seen my tape yet. However, I knew when the judges were so hard on Cedric- he would not be in the bottom- typical. All of the boys that were left were really good dancers. Althought Neil is technically great, I still think he needs to work on his performance factor and chemistry with his partner. Really like Jesus and sorry to see him go. I also think Jessi relied more on theatrics and not dance. However, I could see her being an actress, she has great stage presence and emotion. She also has a lot of sex appeal. Like I said, I only saw the end so I didn't get to hear the explanation of her health.

Last week I was pissed at the judges; tonight, I simply am disappointed. I think they once again got it wrong. As you read, remember that I type this while I am watching, so read it as though you are watching the show live. (Oh, I skip over the guest performances; I usually am trying to catch up at that point!)

Tonight’s opening number ... exquisitely beautiful. I am not a fan of Tyce, but this had passion and style in abundance. By the looks on their faces, the dancers obviously took to it and enjoyed performing it. The prime example was the look on Sabra’s face at the end of the number ... sheer joy. However, would someone please explain to the director that, when filming a group dance number, wide shots are more effective that tight closeups? I want to be able to see the action as a whole, to see the choreographer’s intent. Fewer cuts would be welcome as well. Also, they could have taken a moment at the end to let the audience see the boys’ chest a little more clearly! Hee hee ...

It was very gracious of the producers to let Jessi and Pasha dance the routine we should have seen last night. As I expected, it was hot. Jessi was not flawless in all of the cha cha movement, but she was sexy and performed the h*ll out of the number. It was great to see those lifts as they should have been done. If Jessi had been well last night, she and Pasha would definitely have been safe. That was great.(Um, in the backstage shots of Pasha and Melanie, was she carrying a glass of wine?!? That might explain why she didn’t dance so well!)

My fears were confirmed. Although I did not express this last night, I had a feeling America was going to do something like this. I don’t disagree with Lauren and Neil, and Anya and Danny in the bottom three, but Cedric in no way should have been safe tonight ... not to mention that he shouldn’t have been here this week, or even last week! I hope the judges are kicking themselves for keeping him safe twice. I just hope he doesn’t turn into a “Jerry Springer.”

The solos:

Lauren: With only 30 seconds, one should not walk across the stage removing one’s clothes. I anticipate similar comments to what Jessi received last week. She is dancing for her life, but she did not seem to have a sense of urgency.

Neil: Well, he pulled out every trick in the book, which was fantastic to watch, but I didn’t sense any personality or passion. Like Travis last year, I don’t watch him and think, “I want to share the joy he feels when he dances.” Also, I still wonder about him as an overall dancer.

Sara: That was fun, but, out of all the “B”-dancers (boys and girl), Sara is the weakest overall dancer. It may be her to go tonight, depending on how Jessi does.

Jesus also pulled out his bag of tricks, but, unlike Neil, he did it with personality. His tricks may not have been as strong as Neil’s, but Jesus is the more engaging performer.

Jessi: I really appreciate that Jessi did something different stylistically than last week. One of my big complaints about the dancers who find themselves in the bottom three on more than one occasion is that they never branch out in their solos, sticking to the safety of one style. For some that is a good thing, but it gets tiresome to see the same moves from the same dancer. Unfortunately, however, Jessi’s solo didn’t unequivocally state her case. I hope the judges realize that she would not have been in the bottom three had she danced last night and keep her.

Danny: With as much technical skill, Danny showed much more passion than the other two boys.

Anya: First of all, I think that was a poor choice of costumes. Anya is sexy, and that bodysuit did nothing to accentuate that. Her solo was a little boring.

This is going to be a tough choice for the judges. None of the girls really stated her case like Shauna did last week, so no one is definitely safe. I will not be surprised to see any one of them go tonight. Based on tonight’s solos alone, I would send Lauren home. However, if it was me, we would say goodbye to Sara tonight.

Similarly, it’s a tight contest with the boys. Neil has the tricks. Jesus has the personality. Danny has the passion. I’d keep personality and passion, since they both also have the technique, and boot the tricks. That is based on everything we have seen up until now.

Although I predicted it last night, and I am not surprised, I am VERY disappointed that we lost Jessi tonight. She is a very good dancer, and she and Pasha were a great couple. Once again, I think the judges got it wrong.

I also am disappointed that Jesus is gone, but that could be as much about me disliking Neil as it is about liking Jesus.

This leaves us the mismatched Sara and Pasha as couples. Perhaps Cedric will finally be shown the door next week, along with Sara, which would give us the potentially very exciting Shauna and Pasha. (When do they switch partners?!?)

Except that both Allan and Ivan were more versitile than Cedric.

And Danny Tidwell is in the bottom three America. Good job, good job.

I think Danny lacks a personality when he dances. I'm not surprised he was in the bottom three. I would have sent him home over Jesus, who is a more enjoyable dancer to watch. Updated On: 6/29/07 at 07:56 AM

Jessi was robbed. I would have sent Sara home before any of them. She is the weakest of all the girl dancers and she's not even that good at her own style. True, Jessi didn't really do much to help herself when dancing for her life but I think they should have kept her based on her performance with Pasha earlier in the broadcast. It wasn't right. They give so much slack to the street dancers. Now Pasha is going to be saddled with that busted B-Girl.

And don't even get me started on Cedric. He should have never been in the top 20 to begin with. I am disgusted!

well.

i was fine seeing jessi go. i don't really like her as a dancer and she's so closed off. she says she left it all on the floor, but her solo was not good and then she wouldn't even say anything. i also thought that pasha totally outdanced her in the cha-cha, so that didn't help her. truly, none of the girls' solos were good enough and any of them could have gone based on theirs solos alone. unfortunately, jessi also had a cha-cha where she seemed a little non-existant that she had danced on the same night.

the boys. oh the boys. well, like everyone else i hate that cedric is still in this competition and i hope the judges realize their just giving fuel to the fire when they keep giving him negative comments (the same way simon would mock sanjaya, it just makes the teeny-boppers love them more)... so aside from the fact that none of those three SHOULD be leaving this week, the boys danced phenominally i thought, especially compared to the girls. neil and danny are very similar to me. they both have great technical moves, they are a little distant and passionless when they dance. but to me, danny is SOO arrogant, whereas neil is more humble. jesus is just a teddy bear that has great passion and personality for dance. no, he is not at the same level technically as the other two, but he's still damn good. if it were me, i would have said goodbye to danny. i really dislike him and think he does not represent this competition well. when he was told he was in the bottom 3 he was so pissed off he wouldn't even turn and acknowledge cedric until cedric basically forced him to hug.

anyway, i'll miss jesus, but not jessi, it was her time. next week i hope will be cedric and either sara or anya (though i really like them both)... as for the group lion king number at the beginning, it was by far the best thing that tyce has ever choreographed. i agree about too many close ups, but part of that is they close up on who can do the movement well at that point, because not everyone can handle the same choreography, and if it was a group shot, we would be able to notice the discrepancies more.

sidenote, i love how involved cat deely makes herself. all her little quips are like someone who's actually in the competition, rather than the host. love it!

ap, when I started my recap last night, I actually began talking about how much I like Cat, but when the show ended the way it did, I deleted it to save for another time!

I agree with you. Someone last year said that she is like a "big sister." Unlike the female host of that other television dance show, Cat has warmth and personality.

I'm not saying that Jessi should win the competition. Far from it, but I think she should have stayed longer than Sara.

I don't blame Jessi for not saying anything after she was told that she was going home. What else was there to say? They didn't give her a reason why she specifically was going home. Had she been well enough to perform on competition night she wouldn't have even been in that position. She danced that Cha Cha better than Melanie (Bette Midler) did.

The judges have made crappy decisions week after week sending more gifted and deserving dancers home and keeping the likes of Cedric around to dance another day.

yay. Adam Shankman (Hairspray director) will be a guest judge on the next show -July 11.

I was hoping for a Hairspray performance- but it looks like Hilary Duff will be performing on the 12th show.

-perhaps the group dance will be Hairspray-themed? possibly - I hope.
