It doesn't bother me at all when people talk on their cells at the gym. Walking on a treadmill is extremely boring, you do whatever you can to get yourself through those grueling moments of boredom. It's not that different than talking to your buddy that's on the treadmill next to you.
I DO feel that phone etiquette (or lack thereof) has gotten completely out of hand. DON'T keep your phone on the table while I'm hanging out with you at a bar or restaurant! DON'T talk on your phone while you're being rung up at the checkout lane.
I also think it's so funny when EVERYONE turns their phones on the second the plane lands. It's especially amusing when people feel the need to call someone immediately after landing and yell out all their personal business. They want everyone on the plane to think, "Oh that guy on his phone is SO important - look at him - he has people to call right away!"

Cell phones are banned on the floor at Equinox, where I go. It's wonderful. At my old gym, you could use a cell phone anywhere in the building, including the gym floor and in classes. Once, what was supposed to be a very quiet and introspective moment towards the end of a yoga class was interrupted by the sounds of "Fur Elise". The woman answered her phone and didn't even leave the class space while she was talking. Myself and other members complained numerous times to the management at my old gym, but nothing was done. I like my current zero tolerance gym much better!

PalJoey - why do I never run into you? I'm at Equinox everyday.
And I don't get the fuss over Anderson Cooper. I've worked out next to him. He's short and skinny. He's never done it for me.
