Sound? You can hear "posts" on BWW?
You know what WannaBeFoster if you're in the mood to get into an on board scuffle you're choosing the wrong board member. I'm not here to entertain you, okay? I frankly don't care how my posts "sound" to you. You're just a faceless board member in cyberspace to me. Got that? Good. Don;t expect another response from me, Cause you ain't getting another one honey. I've got better thing to do with my time.

Posted: 4/25/07 at 9:47amNo. Actually it is "i before e except after c" (dollypop be proud!) So, it would actually be 'perceive'. The end.

Posted: 4/25/07 at 9:47amUmm...no, doll. It's perceive. I before E except after C.

Posted: 4/25/07 at 9:55amThat ain't nothing. More than once, I've heard men talking on their cell phones while sitting on the toilet.

Posted: 4/25/07 at 9:59amWhat pisses me off is in the waiting area outside an audition room. Can't you see that people are trying to focus and concentrate? Get your vapid ass outside!

I agree with the premise of this thread. I believe that people who must be talking on the phone at the gym, in the restaurant, in the theater, etc. have the problem, not me.
A line has to be drawn somewhere, and I applaud the gyms that prohibit this.
#35re: Social Calls at the Gym...Why?
Posted: 4/25/07 at 10:07am^^ Now that I would have to agree on. But I don't see the problem in a gym.

Here's why I agree that it's a problem at the gym. This is a place where a specific activity is going on. I believe that working out puts you in a frame of mind in which concentration is important. And it's a good frame of mind. Many trainers teach you to count sets while working out. At the very least, we're supposed to concentrate on the muscles being worked. When it's interrupted by someone else's phone conversation, it's intrusive and annyoying, breaking your entire mind set. At least that's how I see it. I resent it very much.
Treadmills may be boring, but I'd rather not be distracted by someone yakking away. I did opt for listening to my own music. Believe it or not, you can still hear the yakking away over the music.
There's a good reason why some gyms prohibit and/or post signs about cell phones on gym floors.

Posted: 4/25/07 at 10:24amDoesn't bother me in the gym at all. I can't hear others convo 'cuz I have my iPod on and even when I don't it still doesn't. I mean not if they are having a normal convo. Now if they're yacking and carrying on, that's another story. But I guess I'm just not that sensitive.

Dark_Angel, why is it so hard to turn off a cell phone for 90 minutes? I’m not talking about people who need to have their phones on because they have kids or a job that requires it. Why is talking to your friends so important while you’re working out?
By the way, I actually get a far better workout without music.

Posted: 4/25/07 at 10:31amSpeaking for myself and only myself I carry my cell phone on me to the gym while I'm working out but only because I have to. I may get a call from a client, the hospital or very important...my boyfriend. I wouldn't mindlessly start yapping away with a friend on the celly at the gym. If I do answer the phone while I am at the gym I do use discretion. I am respectful of others. It all depends on how one handles it I guess.

^^ Sensitive as far as not letting every little thing irk me. I am sensitive to other people's feelings, but people talking on a cell phone in the gym is not the end of the world. That's what I meant by not being sensitive.
#43re: Social Calls at the Gym...Why?
Posted: 4/25/07 at 10:39amWow you guys. Why you hatin on D_A? All he said was that it doesn't bother him. That doesn't make him insensitive.

Dark Angel, I'll end by saying that in your opinion, talking on a cell phone in the gym is not a problem, but for scores of other people, it is.
I think it's good not to let every little thing irk you, I wish I could be more like that, but people pay good money to work out at the gym and because of those who must talk on the phone, the experience could be ruined. Just like having to be distracted at the theater by the same people.
Anyway, I don't go to the gym anymore, so I don't have to put up with it!

Chatting while working out = fine.
Chatting while sitting on the exercise equipment and not working out = inconsiderate to others.
Chatting while others are preparing for an audition = grounds for murder.

I’ve never dated a man that I’d take my cell phone onto the gym floor for. He would have to be very special.

I don't think you got it, Tazber.
I'm going out to take a nice long walk!

It's okay tazber. Like I said I don't let these things irk me. I can't control what other people want to think or for that matter how they will take my words out of context. But that's cool. It's not that big of a deal.
And WindyCityActor makes a very good point: Don't hog the gym equip by chatting on the phone. Step to the side and let someone else at it.
