So, will Hillary cry before every Primary now?

"Other politicians on Capitol Hill treat people, and even those that work for them, like dirt (ie Obama)."
I met Senator Obama shortly after he was elected to the Senate. I wasn't very impressed. One on one, he came across as arrogant.

Actually, liv's hatred and the subject line of this original post may point to exactly why Hillary won today.
The media jumped on Hillary's loss in Iowa and said her campaign was over. Then she cried and all the Clinton-haters in the media said her tears were phony.
At that point, the voters' sympathies may have begun to shift...the premature reports of her death began to seem like overkill. It was that old thing of villainizing of the woman that women distrust.
So that may be what the women and older Democrats of New Hampshire were thinking as they walked into the voting booths: "Hmmm...she's not as bad as all THAT, now, is she? That poor woman--of COURSE her tears were genuine--the whole world is ganging up on her. I think I'll vote for her after all."
Likewise, liverpool--here on broadwayworld, you're making an awful lot of us Democratic fence-sitters think, "Well, I'm not 100% about her, but that Fenchurch is CRAZY! If he hates her that much, she can't be all bad."

Posted: 1/8/08 at 11:24pmexactly she won because people felt sorry for her and thought everyone was picking on her. It's pathetic. Make a decision based on actual things, not because you feel sympathy for the only female candidate.

Posted: 1/8/08 at 11:25pmWell, it has to be said that the media has been quick first to crown her and then to vilify her, and then to paint her as a victim. I AM starting to wonder what the real profile of Hillary Clinton is. The tough as nails ready to go candidate or the underdog who really, really wants to do this and has lots of great ideas?

Eh. I heard one wonk say that in Iowa, everybody heard how Hilary was going to win it so the Hilary voters didn't think it was as important to vote as the Obama voters did. Then, in New Hampshire, people were saying Hilary was done and was going to quit (right Matt Drudge?) and the Obama voters thought it was less important to get out and vote since he had been coronated since Iowa but the Hilary voters did think it was important.
That's just as likely.

Posted: 1/8/08 at 11:28pmI have never been 100% for Hillary - I haven't made up my mind who I'm supporting - but I do love watching all the political pundits. who all but dug Ms. Clintons grave, fall over themselves trying to cover their completely wrong commentaries. The press ... what idiots.

I almost wish people weren't allowed to poll.
That way people wouldn't be influenced by poll numbers, but who they really want.

Posted: 1/8/08 at 11:38pmYeah... I'm wondering, is America SERIOUSLY making its decisions based on voting for the opposite person the polls and newscasters tell them to vote for?

Posted: 1/8/08 at 11:41pmWell, it would make a helluva lot of sense, Ron. Given how disenfranchised and voiceless most Americans feel in the land of corporate dominance, one of the few acts of defiance an American may be left with is to do the exact opposite the mainstream media says they're going to do.

That's true. I suppose it speaks to a larger problem with the imposition of media on the American public and how it effects the way we live our lives.
I still think there are better ways for people to make decisions.

"exactly she won because people felt sorry for her and thought everyone was picking on her."
I would love to be able know exactly what people thought as they cast their vote. It seems that other people know and that must be such a great gift to have.

Priest, as soon as she bugged her eyes out like that I thought, "Don't bug your eyes out like that, Hilary. Well, at least it isn't a scream."
I feel like that point at individuals and mouthing messages to them is an annoying habit she picked up from Babs Streisand.

You know, the thing that has been virtually ignored about the whole Hillary getting emotional story, is the act that proceeded it.
An undecided voter, a woman around Clinton's age, asked her a question: "What about you?"
The woman expressed concern about Clinton's well-being, what with the constant media attacks and stress of the campaign.
I think the question, the display of concern by this woman, caught Hillary off-guard and hit an emotional cord.

I think you may be right, StP. But as far as the Hillary-haterz and the "drive-by media" (Hi, HD!) are concerned, everything she does is calculated.
I also think those bug-eye faces are genuine. She could get those coached out of her, but they're genuine, sudden flashes of high emotion.

Posted: 1/9/08 at 12:29amNobody can question her passion, which is real, but tempered by a savvy that doesn't always work in her benefit. I still don't think we've seen the "real" Hillary, just as we didn't know who the real Bush would be until he got into office.
