She wasn't bad, but she wasn't great.
She got off to a weak start with It's Today, but seemed to get better as the movie went on.
Which is weird b/c I'm sure it wasn't filmed in sequence.
I love the one new song he wrote for Robert Preston also.

I Love LUCY!MAME. It's just a lot of fun filled froth. Although I don't like the way they made Pegrin (sp?) the maid versus Interior Decorator...I felt like it all fell apart then.

Yeah!! Two more people that love Mame. To think, all this time I thought I was alone.

I know it's practically sacrilege, but I preferred MAME to AUNTIE MAME. Let the flaming begin!

Agreed taz.
Too bad Angie didn't get to preserve this on film...at least non-silent home movie film.

I'm surprised they haven't done a revival of this.
There's gotta be a star who could make it work.

I really disliked Peggy Cass' Agnes Gooch, though.

There is a star Taz, Lauren Graham.
She's 40, can sing, has the comedy, has the ability to be serious. She'd be perfect. Plus she is a bankable name.

Well, there a Broadway-bound Kennedy Center production a couple years back with Christine Baranski which never materialized.

What though the radiance which was once so bright
Be not forever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower...

wow this thread went from "splendor in the grass" to "mame"...very funny.
i love "splendor in the grass". i can relate to it. barbara loden as beatty's sister does some stellar work in the film.
as far as "mame" goes, well, um...yeah, so i loved "splendor in the grass".

Yay! I've been waiting for this day!
I thoroughly enjoyed Mame, and Lucy in the role too. I would watch it right now if it were on!
Whew, there, I said it!

Lucy's MAME is brilliant.

The lady who played Sally Field's creepy mother in "Sybil" is in Splendor In the Grass too! She's the school teacher toward the beginning of the movie.
That woman gives me the willies.
TRIVIA: When Robert Wise & Jerome Robbins were working on casting the film of West Side Story, they arranged for an early screening of "Splendor in the Grass" to check out the young Warren Beatty for the part of Tony.
Turns out, that screening is where they finally found their Maria, instead.
I've only ever held one Academy Award before... and it was William Inge's Best Original Screenplay Oscar for Splendor.
That woman gives me the willies.

And yes, Barbara Loden was awesome as Bud's drunk, party-happy sister.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”

Me too! It's that weird, flat, almost Louise Fletcher voice of hers that does it for me.
