jrb, in 'my world' Ian would definitely be nominated but it's never gonna happen.
As we are amongst friends here and now that I have seen the movie a few times (ahem) and have finally gotten over the excitement a little bit and can concentrate on the things I have a problem with, let's talk business:
I have issues with Anakin's 'fall' to the Dark Side. From the original trilogy I always felt Darth Vader was a hungry, greedy person whose main ambition was 'unlimited power'. Don't get me wrong it certainly makes sense that he is trying to save Padme and it makes his seduction more believable.
But my question is, has Lucas sacrificed the biggest villain ever, so that he can have an emotional Hollywood climax? Wouldn't it have been more 'in character' if Anakin had turned on Obi-Wan and the other Jedi because he was jealous and wanted just wanted more power instead of actually being a good guy who just tried to save his wife and hence losing the 'plot' a bit? I know his jelously and lust for power is literally 'scratched' on but never really developed. Do I make any sense? I doubt it....
Also, I really do LOVE the movie but there is this one scene in it I have problems with: Anakin walks into Mace's and Palpatine's fight, he realizes Mace is about to kill Palaptine but is desperate to keep Palaptine alive as he still 'needs him', so he chops off Mace's hand and Palaptine finishes him off.
Anakin, still being a good person really, realizes what he's done, is showing some remorse but within 30 seconds throws EVERYTHING overboard to become Darth Vader and Darth Sidious' new apprentice. So what happened there? Was Anakin really that weak? Or did Sidious use some mind tricks on him?
That scene seems so rushed and unbelieveable in my opinion...
What do my fellow Star Wars friends think of this?
