STAR WARS III was amazing

....I blame a lot of my problems on Lucas' writing. That's not wrong is it

No it's not. We all love him for starting the saga in the first place and for his creativity...

...he should just stay away from the script aspect. STAR WARS III was amazing

I don't think the script is as bad as people say it is. Yes, there are some clumsy and awkward moments but overall I thought it was good.
Palpatine has some fantastic lines in my opinion. One of them shall soon make an appearance as my new signature. STAR WARS III was amazing

STAR WARS III was amazing

jrb, in 'my world' Ian would definitely be nominated but it's never gonna happen. STAR WARS III was amazing

As we are amongst friends here and now that I have seen the movie a few times (ahem) and have finally gotten over the excitement a little bit and can concentrate on the things I have a problem with, let's talk business:

I have issues with Anakin's 'fall' to the Dark Side. From the original trilogy I always felt Darth Vader was a hungry, greedy person whose main ambition was 'unlimited power'. Don't get me wrong it certainly makes sense that he is trying to save Padme and it makes his seduction more believable.
But my question is, has Lucas sacrificed the biggest villain ever, so that he can have an emotional Hollywood climax? Wouldn't it have been more 'in character' if Anakin had turned on Obi-Wan and the other Jedi because he was jealous and wanted just wanted more power instead of actually being a good guy who just tried to save his wife and hence losing the 'plot' a bit? I know his jelously and lust for power is literally 'scratched' on but never really developed. Do I make any sense? I doubt it....

Also, I really do LOVE the movie but there is this one scene in it I have problems with: Anakin walks into Mace's and Palpatine's fight, he realizes Mace is about to kill Palaptine but is desperate to keep Palaptine alive as he still 'needs him', so he chops off Mace's hand and Palaptine finishes him off.
Anakin, still being a good person really, realizes what he's done, is showing some remorse but within 30 seconds throws EVERYTHING overboard to become Darth Vader and Darth Sidious' new apprentice. So what happened there? Was Anakin really that weak? Or did Sidious use some mind tricks on him?
That scene seems so rushed and unbelieveable in my opinion...

What do my fellow Star Wars friends think of this?

I agree that there are script and acting problems in the film.

And, I understand the feeling that Darth Vader's motives seem different now. But, watching the original trilogy after seeing SITH was an amazing experience. I felt new layers to the character and still don't doubt that he has become a greedy dark lord.

You are right, there are quite a few years between SITH and HOPE, so Darth Vader has had quite the time to develop into this greedy Sith Lord, maybe I should see it from that point of view.

It might just be me but I didn't really have any issues with the acting. I thought Ian was amazing, both Ewan and Hayden did a great job and I didn't have any issues with Jackson either. The only person who disappointed me was Natalie Portman.

Because I'm a real Star Wars nerd I'm obviously reading the Making Of book at the moment. It's a very interesting read as it gives you some idea what issues the actors had with the script. Natalie and especially Hayden don't stop discussing their issues with the script with Lucas. Hayden also seems to have a very different opinion on how Anakin should be portrayed... interesting read.

Ok, ladies and gents, get your calendars out:

11/01/2005 is the release date for SITH on DVD! In fact, there will be 6 different Star Wars releases on that day. It looks like you can buy the final movie separately, buy the prequels together or buy all six films in a complete set.

Now I just hope Lucas is not going to kill me financially by adding more extras on the complete set, so that I have to buy it on top of the original trilogy again! Yep, I can just see myself walking out of the shop on 11/01 with 3 different DVD sets. STAR WARS III was amazing

DG, I know! He will probably do a 'Peter Jackson' with us and release uncut/extended versions sometime in 2006...

And then, there will be the 3D version that by 2010 will be 3D at home--so we'll have to buy those as well....

That IS my one gripe with Uncle George---doesn't seem to mind ripping off the fans when it comes to the videos.
