Do you think that Star knows that Al is a big ol' pole smoker? Oh well... at least she believes that gays should be allowed to get married.

Posted: 11/12/04 at 1:56pmOf COURSE she knows. Why else would she be paying him a hearty monthly salary for the privilege of living with her nasty ass?

And he deserves every red cent!
I am "a few extra pounds" myself, and I am not trying to pick on her, but she just makes a spectacle of herself - who was has "official airline" for their wedding?
And truth be told, he is not a bad looking guy...

I think you guys are mean.
Not everyone is built like a stick figure. I don't watch Star, but I am happy she found someone no matter what her size.
Beauty does come in all shapes and sizes.
Also not every man likes stick figures.
I wish them happiness.

How do you know she is mean and greedy? Do you know her on a first name basis?
Everyone who is putting her down should see Hairspray.
As someone who needs to lose 20 pounds and has had weight issues my whole life, I was really disgusted by this thread.
Good for her finding a hot sexy man.

Maybe she has health issues and a slow metabolism.
And don't assume over weight people are mean and greedy.
Some might just have bad genes.
People are jealous of her because she has a tv show and that says a lot about her. It means the woman is smart because people are much harder on over weight people.
I applaud her for doing it all.
You go Star.

Posted: 11/12/04 at 3:28pmI'm not assuming. Something about having corporate sponsorship for your wedding just kind of puts it right out there for the world to see.

Corine -
As I said, I am not exactly on the thin side of the scale - and I am not commenting on the size of her body, but on the size of her ego. Getting "sponsors" to pay for her wedding...if you looked at her wedding website, you would see where this is coming from.
#62re: The final stretch...
Posted: 11/12/04 at 3:30pmRight, Jim. Corine, if you were paying attention at all, you would have read both Jim's and my posts mentioning that we are overweight too. Don't jump to the wrong conclusions.

Hey,
Many stars get perks like that. I think it is smart.
Many stars get those perks you just don't know about it.

This article really sums it up:
ABC takes dim view of Star Jones' on-air plugs
There's a little thing in journalism -- even TV journalism -- called ethics. Basically, it means you're not supposed to accept goodies in exchange for coverage.
According to the New York Post, ABC recently put a stop to "The View" diva and Payless ShoeSource spokeswoman Star Jones' greedy on-air plugs of her wedding suppliers. The network honchos were worried that her incessant thumbs-up reviews of their services would violate Federal Communications Commission rules.
As Jones' Nov. 13 wedding to Al Reynolds draws nearer, Star has irked her bosses, because everything connected with the wedding -- from invitations and flowers to dresses and makeup -- Jones got for free in return for promises of publicity.
One ticked-off vendor -- who claims Jones guaranteed to do a segment on "The View" about their products -- recently received an e-mail from ABC daytime director Randall Barone.
It read: "I understand that you have made arrangements to provide certain products for inclusion in a segment on 'The View' regarding Star Jones' bridal party gift bag. That segment will not be airing on 'The View.'"
Soon after, the vendor got an e-mail from Jones, which stated: "I have recently been informed that 'The View' has re-evaluated its needs and does not plan to include this (wedding) segment ... and thus will not be able to give you the thanks you very much deserve (for contributing to her goodie bag.) Not to worry. ... My public relations firm (PMK) and I have agreed to do several segments with one of the major syndicated evening entertainment programs. ... Further, (we) are in the process of deciding which print. ... outlet that we will give the photo of the goodie bag and its contents to."
The vendor was unimpressed with Star's promises and pulled out of the "goodie bag."
Karl Nilsson, a rep for "The View," said: "We consider the wedding-related segments (that have already aired) ... to be of legitimate interest to the viewer, and we believe that full disclosure regarding any promotional consideration was made, consistent with the law and industry practice."
Jones fumed to the Post: "I can assure you I have done nothing illegal, immoral or unethical and more importantly, nothing ABC has not agreed to and signed off on! I can assure you I never personally promised a segment on 'The View.'"
More importantly, does this mean the bridesmaids will be wearing Payless pumps?

Posted: 11/12/04 at 3:39pmStar Jones is a media whore. And regardless of how much weight she's lost, she still reminds me of a greased pig.

I agree with Corine. I think the problem a lot of people have with Star is that she's a plus-sized woman who thinks she's a goddess...and I think a lot of people feel like "How Dare She?!"
And those sentiments can also be shared be some who are overweight and maybe self-hating a tad bit. Also, it seems like a lot of people are bitter about the whole institution of marriage in general...
I'm a fan of Star because she's charismatic, smart, and blunt. Some people can't handle that. I'd rather someone be real than fake. A lot of people don't like her, ut she's the one that many people tune in to see (All the celebs that come to the show sit there eating out of her hand). She's very well loved and recieved outside of The View. I wish her much happiness on her special day.

Posted: 11/12/04 at 3:42pmPersonally I think it's the Kathy Lee syndrome (me this, me that). I don't think it has to do with her weight at all, but with her self-centeredness and jamming her wedding down everyone's throats. It's one thing when the media makes a circus out of your wedding, but when you make a circus out of it, you're setting yourself up for criticism.

Star should take a page from Tocarra from "Americas Next Top Model" on how to be a proper plus sized diva.
I used to be a fan of Star, but she has just become really classless...everything seems to be what can she get out of any given situation (which hit its zenith with her wedding).
I don't wish her any harm, and do hope they will be happy together, but being a celebrity actively recruiting corporate sponsors to pay for her wedding, that makes her a target.

I'm with Jimmcf. I used to enjoy Star -- she is damned smart, with a forked tongue -- and she Joy have been unabashed, unapologetic liberals, voicing strongly worded indictments against a lot of the tyranny of last four years. But actually, ever since the introduction of Al into her life, she's lost a lot of her edge and become a big gooey cocoa barbie.
I think her using her wedding as a sweeps event is a tacky low in medium that's full of tacky lows. But even today's Oprah was devoted to Nate fixing up Kirstie Alley's house. Watching millions spent on Kirstie's home with well-placed promos for everything from Home Depot to appliance brands seemed particularly odious. Watching a wealthy woman get a home makeover, to make her feel better for being fat, is beneath Oprah.

From today's Page 6:
NAYSAYERS abound, but we'll bet Star Jones' marriage to Al Reynolds lasts at least two years. That's because Jones got Reynolds to sign a prenup stating that if the unholy alliance goes south before the two-year watermark, Reynolds gets nothing. Jones and Reynolds partied until the wee hours Sunday morning at the Waldorf after their wedding Saturday night — Reynolds' second all-nighter of the weekend. On Friday, he held his "Roman Baths"-themed bachelor party at the Time Hotel. "It was so uncomfortable," said our spy. "You had to sign a confidentiality agreement to get in and then you were sent to the penthouse, where they made you get naked." All clothes were put into plastic bags on the floor and the 60 men were given bathrobes to put on. "We sat basically naked in a freezing room for a couple of hours," says an attendee. "There were only two bars and they were sponsored by Hypnotiq, Remy and some awful beer. At 11:50 p.m., 10 topless girls came out. They were butt-ugly except for two of them who simulated lesbian sex on the bed. Ten people left immediately — it was very uncomfortable." Jones' rep declined comment.
