Posted: 10/6/06 at 3:44pmYes! I couldn't believe she got more work after that performance.

Posted: 10/6/06 at 3:45pmI really wish Miko would have gotten more fame than he did. He is WAY better than Dakota Fanning and no where near as annoying.
#29re: Stephen King -- Books or Movies?
Posted: 10/6/06 at 3:46pmHe worked a lot - there are a lot of really good child film actors who didn't get that Dakota Fanning hype and attention. Tina Majorino comes immediately to mind.

Well, at least she made up for it on "Ghostwriter." But yeah, her work in PS was absolutely terrible.
You want annoying, how about that kid who played Danny in the TV movie of The Shining?
#31re: Stephen King -- Books or Movies?
Posted: 10/6/06 at 3:49pmGOD YES!!! Everytime I see him in a movie, I want to scream!

I wouldn't have watched a TV movie of The Shining.
Who was the kid?

His name is Courtland Mead. I think he was in the Little Rascals movie too.
And you didn't miss much. Steven Weber as Jack Torrance... *shudder*

Courtland Mead - he was good in Men Don't Cry and some other things.
Why in God's name would they even make a tv movie of The Shining?

Posted: 10/6/06 at 3:52pmSome mouth-breather who ruined the entire thing. Otherwise, the television version of THE SHINING is far superior to the theaterical film. But then I detested that, with every fiber of my being. It being my favorite Stephen King book and all.

How much would I love to see Peter Jackson take on the Dark Tower?
And is it just me, or has anybody else ALWAYS pictured O/Dessa as being played by Oprah Winfrey?
#37re: Stephen King -- Books or Movies?
Posted: 10/6/06 at 3:54pmI always picture Angela Bassett.

HA, exactly. Damn it, child, CLOSE YOUR MOUTH!
The TV version is certainly more faithful, but I thought it was laughable and not at all frightening.
Jailyard, that'd be amazing. Another epic series of movies for us to obsess over.

Posted: 10/6/06 at 3:57pmThey remade it, because they didn't do it right, the first time. Of course, they didn't quite get it right the second time, either; but they got closer. Sometimes his books are just not possible to translate. I'm amazed that anyone likes that lousy theatrical THE SHINING. Nicholson was nuts-looking from the first reel; and Duvall looked like she hadn't bathed in months. And, the film is never scary, to me. The book scared the hell out of me.

Posted: 10/6/06 at 3:57pmI'm one of the few who plodded all the way through "The Talisman" (although that's not pure King). According to IMDB, they're doing a movie of it in 2008? And with Michael J. Fox? Weird.

HAAAAAAA!
JohnBoy, I do have a soft spot for the Kubrick Shining, but I have to agree with you. I was afraid of Nicholson the minute he showed up, and equally as afraid of creepy Duvall. The book is stunning, and made me afraid of topiary.

Posted: 10/6/06 at 3:59pmThe only thing I picture Oprah doing, is going away. There isn't a living thing that I'm more tired of seeing, hearing about, listening to ... oh, okay, Hilary Clinton; but Oprah's second!
#46re: Stephen King -- Books or Movies?
Posted: 10/6/06 at 4:00pmI need to re-read it. I was just a kid when I read it the first time.

I never found 'The Shining' scary in any medium. I just thought it was plodding. Kubrick's movie was weird and had some creepy visuals, the TV movie was, well, a faithful adaptation of a book that I don't think is scary :)
I think King's scariest book is, hands down, 'salem's Lot.'

I read the book right before the movie came out, and the TV ads for the movie scared the crap out of me.
The movie itself turned out to be nowhere near as frightening as the book.
