Everyone has been saying that the economy will take time to get back on track. Yes, even Obama BEFORE he took office. There is no "Magic Fix". It has taken us 12 or more years to get here and it will take time to get us back on track. To expect anything different is foolish.
The stimulus package is put in place to slow and hopefully stop future collapse of the Economy. It is going to be a long rough ride.

No one claimed it was a magical elixir. EVER. Things cannot be fixed overnight. Or in a month. It's always been said that it could take a full year to BEGIN to see positive changes...or more.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

$800 dollars of pork does not seem too bad in a 800 billion dollar program.
Do you really expect him to say that the economy will turn around on a dime? What I have read is that they are focusing on shovel-ready projects for the infrastructure, which will help ebb the flow of job loss, which is the first step in breaking this downward cycle.

Do we exactly know where this money is going? I mean, I know some people do... but where is most of the money going? I haven't been able to figure that out... how quickly will it get out?

I think it's important to stop the "bleeding" before worrying abotu healing and I believe the stimulus plan is just that. It an effort to stop the "blood loss" or at least clot it enough to make it possible to start a recovery

I agree with most of the replies here to the OP. One observation I have is that the stimulus package had better help small businesses and promote the development of more small business, or America is toast. I'm talking about the businesses not traded on Wall Street. A lot of problems have developed with the over-consolidaton and centralization of the huge corporations. It's part of the reason why things are where they are today. Economic stimulus should not help only Wall Street. I think we need to see a fracturing of some of these conglomerates and a return to independently, more locally and regionally controlled business.

Isn't it funny how Roxy was a Kenseyan economist as recently as October and then some time in January he flip flopped? What suddenly changed your economic philosophy, Roxy? Did you reread The Chicago School? Did you pick up a well-read old copy of The Wealth of Nations? What's informing your strongly worded opinions, Mr Roxy?

$ 800 worth of pork
Eight hundred dollars doesn't seem like much at all.

Obama:
My fellow Americans!
May I have your attention, perlease?
Do you wake every morning in shame and despair
To discover your money is found to be nowhere
When it ought to be there?
Well, ladies and gentlemen,
From now on you can waken with ease.
You need never again have a worry or care,
I will show you a miracle marvelous rare,
Gentlemen, you are about to see something wot rose
From the dead!
And it comes from the Fed!
'Twas Obama's
Miracle elixir
That's what did the trick, sir,
True, sir, true.
Was it quick, sir?
Faster than a hick, sir,
Just like an elixir
Ought to do!
How about a dollar, mister?
You'll get it back someday, guaranteed.
Will my package
Stimulate the growth, sir?
You can have my oath, sir
’Tis unique
Wait a minute--
Stimulatin’ i’n’ it?
Have patience, we begin it
Just this week!
Roxy:
Pardon me, ma’am, maybe I'm a dork...
Goth:
They better say babies come from the stork
[Simultaneously:]
Roxy:
Pardon me, sir, am I just a dork
Goth:
Here's the pork. Here's the pork.
Obama:
Try Obama's
Stimulus Elixir
Ain't no tricky dick, sir
Nor duke of earls
Try Obama's
Good for dads and mommas
Sinners and Madonnas
Boys and girls!
Wanna buy a bottle, grumpy?
Roxy:
Where's the torque?
Goth:
What is torque?
Roxy:
Smells like pork
Goth:
Smells like-- phew!
Roxy:
Looks like pork
Goth:
Wouldn’t touch it if I was you, dear
Roxy:
This is pork
Stick a fork
Obama:
Let Obama
Have a little chance, sir
Roxy:
Watch me do a dance sir,--
The Flip and Flop
Obama:
Wait a few weeks
Come on, turn your two cheeks
Maybe just a few tweaks
Goth:
I can't stop!

I wonder how many of those who actually voted against the stimulus plan would have done so if their no vote would have actually meant that their state wouldn't receive any of the stimulus money? Or how many states that had legislators who voted no...will refuse the money?
My guess is ZERO.
My guess is ZERO.

And some of those same conservatives who voted against the bill are now crowing about its benefits to their home constituents.

My Republican Congressman sent out a press release saying he couldn't vote for it because of the Billions of dollars that will go to ACORN.
Does anyone want to guess what's wrong with that statement?
No money goes to ACORN
