Now in MY book RL will always be an original original. He wisely took an instant disliking to me when I first posted on Broadway.com because I did that annoying thing of making my first post critical of something he had written. And it was great. He wrote something like "We've seen the likes of you a million times, you come in and get in the middle of something you have nothing to do with, you act like you belong here, we've never heard of you, and in a few days we never hear from you again."

And I thought, "Darn it! He's probably right! I'll show him! I'll stick around and earn his respect!"

I probably would have vanished just as he predicted, but I stuck around. The first time he wrote a nice response to something I wrote I remember thinking, "Well, that's good."

I feel like a lot of people around here have major attachment disorders. Like when they were children, and their parents left the room, or the house, they never believed their parents would come back.

That's the only way I can see that people get SO upset about even the slightest negative thing about their favorite shows, stars, or themselves. I mean, they freak out! They think of criticism as "hate." They read something that takes about three minutes to write and post and decide they are "spiritually bankrupt," or "bitter."

I don't know what REAL world these posters live in, but the world is not always NICE. People have disagreements. People say mean things. Sometimes it hurts, but the wounds are never critical. You would never know that from the Suzie Sensitives who post here about the "hatred."

The RL and Me story reminds me that life is a progressive movement forward. If somebody hates you today, it doesn't mean they'll hate you in six months. Right, Jose'? In life, you just sort of stick it out. Change and grow. Don't sulk, don't set up threads to elicit sympathy, don't whine. Things always get better, just as they always get worse.

I mean, of course people should do it if they need to. But I'm shocked at how people run to "protect" others from negativity. How tenuous must a person's world view and sense of themselves be if negative personal criticism or worse criticism of a show or an actor makes you feel victimized to the core?

dammit, namo! why do have to belittle me in front of the whole group like this?? i told you those things in confidence and now you're parading my dirty laundry in front of various and sundry characters like yesterday's leftovers before Wicked's chorus! i won't stand for it, i tell you, which is why i'm sitting. oh the humanity of it all! how dare you take completely unrelated topics and weave them together in a web of deceit and nastiness just to paint me this way? it's too, too horrible, you awful brute. just for this i take back that pinch, mister itchy bum! i demand that you re-tract your entire premise and spread nothing but happiness and joy (i mean just that, no spreading of anything else...anything!!) on these boards. and now i'll go away to sulk for a few minutes which happen to cooincide with my lunch break. i'm so, so hurt!!
