Firstly, let me say that Namo is one of my favoritest favorites on here. I'm glad our little fracas way-back-when got ironed out -- things would definitely not be the same around here without his participation. Whether he pisses you off or not, you have to admit -- the man is INTELLIGENT and WITTY. And that's reason enough for me to throw flower petals at his feet.
Now, do you old-timers remember when we used to have quasi-serious threads on Broadway.com where we'd discuss a show, a composer, etc. -- discuss their contributions, how we felt about certain shows, et al. THAT'S what we need -- some genuine discourse about musical theatre. NOT another thread about....well, I'm not e'en going to go THERE. Anyone wanna step up to the plate? I'm thinking as we...or as I type.

This thread should never be on the second page, Chenoluia chorus be damned it shall rise today!
I also agree rlbgbc, but there are a few wonderful threads about shows that are valid and full of information out there, they just happen to be buried under the countless "Idina had a latte, and LIKED it!" posts.

Posted: 1/12/05 at 8:07amI happen to know that she adores hazlenut because I could still taste it after I licked the cup that I had retrieved from the trash can at the Starbucks on that day that I followed her from the Gershwin after she wouldn't sign my playbill even though I waited in the cold for four hours.

Posted: 1/12/05 at 9:07amIn thinking back on "days of yore", I realize that I really miss threads started, or contributed to, by onceadancer. For those of you that don't know her, she's a lovely lady living in Israel that was a broadway dancer back in the 30s and 40s. Her insights into professional theatre of that era were heaven-sent. She also told us what it was like for gay performers back then -- for as we know, gay theatre performers have been around since Euripides. (Not to intimate that Miriam is as old as Euripides or anything! :) ) She provided a portal for us to absorb some background from the best source -- a first-hand account. Miriam, are you still out there? Somewhere? Updated On: 1/12/05 at 09:07 AM

Posted: 1/12/05 at 10:25amMiriam posted just a few days ago on the main board. And you're right, it is ALWAYS a treat when she makes an appearance!

Posted: 1/12/05 at 11:47amOh why must ice storms come and rob me of power and internet just when the board gets interesting again! I also miss the days of serious discussions. Does anyone remember the thread where we talked about Showboat and I was able to find the 1929 version? I learned so much in my first few months on the board! Now it seems like anytime I post something wanting to learn that it dissappears into the depths of page 2 before anyone can even see it. I've only seen Miriam post a few times, but it was always a treat to hear her stories.

I remember the Show Boat thread. We had discussed the possibility of posting information about a landmark or forgotten show once a month and I completely forgot about it. I was going to do Milk and Honey. I think I'll start doing that this weekend.
I always look forward to Miriam's posts. I was thinking of her when watching the PBS miniseries and wondering what wonderful insights she could add to some of the shows they discussed.

I am so thankful for this thread. I am so sick of the self pitying "I'm Leaving and I'm Never Coming Back Threads--So Come Give Me All the Attention I So Desperately Crave, And I'll See You Back Here In a Week or So!"
Give me a break. And speaking of breaks--we all need them at times. But, you don't see robbiej and Eddie Varley and the rest of the people mentioned in this thread having an apocalyptic meltdown. And if you notice that someone IS taking a break--there's no need for you to make it a People Magazine exclusive. The person involved may be busy or quite frankly doesn't want the attention about it.
The first step is admitting you have a problem.....

JRB has been so spot on in his posts, it's so very true, ya take a break, take a break, it's healthy.
I mean we all love reading the daily thoughts, views and hot or not threads, but if you need to step away, wonderful, you will always be here in spirit, if not fan photos.
I'm planning on a month long island vacation in May, and believe me I ain't logging on once, it's gonna be nuttin' but booze, thongs and nameless hookups!

A friend bought an beachfront bungalow on Paradise Island(they have had a REALLY good past two years!), my ex is in town for the summer(she's filming a movie), so she will watch "our" pets(somehow I ended up with the cats in the breakup),so it's kismet, and Poppa Varchulo needs a breaky break.
How else am I to "survive" the survival of the fittest?!
