one of my alltime favorites.....so sad, but an amazing life and career
How sad.....She was so good as Leona Helmsley.....a really good actress!!!
Didn't anyone else see this film????
Yes, I saw it; and, during its original theatrical release, too!
Wow. How sad. She was such a treat to work with.
She'll be missed.

So beautiful. Thanks for posting the link, RetroBoy. The very first Broadway show I ever saw was My Fair Lady, but I saw it in London. The very first Broadway show I ever saw in New York, was the incredible The Miracle Worker, with Suzanne Pleshette and Patty Duke. I fell in love with both of them that night, and it never changed. I'm very saddened by her passing.

I'm devastated by her passing. She was always a big favorite of mine. Even if the movie was borderline cheesy (as some of her films were) I always found myself glued to my chair by her beauty, voice and performance.
I literally had to dig thru boxes and boxes of stored VHS tapes to find ROME ADVENTURE. I'm so glad I never gave it away, sadly it's not on DVD and it was really special to watch it again although I have to admit it had me feeling a bit melancholy.
@JohnBoy2: It must have been something else to see her in THE MIRACLE WORKER. It just goes to show you what a truly versatile actress she really was. That she got the opportunity to do the role on stage must have been an honor for her. I honestly don't think Hollywood knew what to do with her really.

I loved her in The Birds, and also in Blackbeard's Ghost, she was hilarious! Rest in Peace!
I realized today that I've never met a soul who didn't absolutely love her! She was a rare and special person who really will be missed by many.
Al di la means you are far above me, very far
Al di la, as distant as the lovely evening star
Where you walk flowers bloom
When you smile all the gloom turns to sunshine
And my heart opens wide
When you're gone it fades inside and seems to have died
Oh, Retro--thank you for posting that clip! That thing she does with here eyes when he says "That's how much he loves her--in the song." Al di la!

remember back in August or September last year...The National Enquirer reported that she was "on her deathbed"...so she dragged herself out to appear @ that event honoring THE BOB NEWHART SHOW just to spite them!!!

My mother and father knew her back in NY in the late '50s and early '60s. They always spoke so highly of her. And when I was growing up in Kansas, my mother would tell me what a nice lady she was when we watched The Bob Newhart Show. She loved "Suzie Pleshette!"
Very sad to hear this news.
Retro-I can't even watch Rome Adventure or listen to the music. My memories of it were so vivid-cheesy yes, but for me SO gorgeous and romantic, that it makes me sad.
Her eyes-unbelievable.

Oh I don't consider ROME ADVENTURE cheesy at all. It's a first rate "sudser" and it's a beautiful and romantic film. I would consider THE POWER a 1968 sci-fi/suspense flick she filmed with George Hamilton to be one of those "cheesy" movies I was referring to.
Now, as far as ROME ADVENTURE is concerned, she was quite surprised when she went to a screening and discovered she had been billed: and introducing SUZANNE PLESHETTE. She exclaimed, "Introducing?!!! Where did they think I was all these years!" She had already made her film debut in Jerry Lewis' 1958 comedy, THE GEISHA BOY!
I had such a huge crush on her when I was a kid. RIP.

From "The Secret Career of Suzanne Pleshette" comes these interesting tid-bits regarding her run in THE MIRACLE WORKER.
After Pleshette replaced her, Anne Bancroft said:
"I'd feel better if only Suzy weren't so doggone good."
PATTY DUKE (pictured above with Pleshette), who played Helen Keller in the production, spoke of their initial differences: "One area where we had a problem was Suzie's nails.... [She had] long fingernails. Now, obviously she knew she couldn't play Annie Sullivan with long red fingernails, so off came the polish and down came the nails. But not far enough down, because her nails not only scratched me, they were dangerous and they really hurt...."
Pleshette remembered it this way: "I still bruise when I see Patty Duke."
I sent Pleshette a copy of THE MEEKER MUSEUM NEWSLETTER for which I had written an article about her. In the newsletter article, I used the above quote about Pleshette's nails. Pleshette wrote me a very appreciative letter but politely suggested I look at her short nails in the picture (reproduced above). Yep, Pleshette's nails are short.

"That settles it. No more Japanese food before bed."
Why, Namo? Did you dream about Myoshi Umeki?
Namo, I remember my jaw dropping when she played that scene at the end of the '80s "Newhart" show.
Such a great idea, and it has to go down as one of the best "surprise guest stars" in the history of television comedies.
