Now that TCM has saved all the old films, has expanded it's broadcast library and continues to find footage to films thought to be lost forever, the true lost classics are the 1970s made-for-television films. Come on TCM start saving those! I mean, how many times can you show Singin' In the Rain?

As many times as they like as far as I'm concerned.
Speaking of classic made-for-TV '70s movies... anyone remember "The People?"
I saw it when I was a kid, and remembered it for YEARS, after only one viewing.
I finally tracked it down on VHS a few years ago. It was actually released for a short while, but it's a terrible, fuzzy print. At least I got to see it again, and it's still a good movie!
It's about this Shaker-type community, living in the woods. They have very set ways... and then a teacher comes to town (Kim Darby) to teach the children... and she discovers they all have supernatural powers. It's their big town "secret." Turns out, they're actually aliens from another planet!
A very cool movie that also starred William Shatner and Diane Varsi (Peyton Place). And one of the girls from Eight Is Enough, when she was REALLY young. It was directed by John Korty (Miss Jane Pitman). The flying scenes in the woods are really cool.
TCM should restore that and show it!
I haven't watched Mr. Deeds Goes to Town in many years, but I used to watch it with a particular set of friends about every-other week. It is just as wonderful as I remember it. Gary Cooper and Jean Arthur are splendid...and what a cast of character actors!
Later tonight The Shop Around the Corner is on. Any movie with Margaret Sullavan is aces in my book.

great movie. Then again I'm partial to anything in which madeline Kahn has a role.
Auntie Mame and Gypsy are back to back tonight beingnning at 8pm!

Yeah, I was just going to post that Gypsy is up next. I'm going to watch that.
Anne Bancroft movies all day today.
Johnboy2, TCM is not even CLOSE to saving all the old movies. there are still hundreds of silents to be restored, and thousands of movies from the 1930's and 40's to be restored and released on DVD before they start looking into the 1970's.
They already play way too may 1970's movies on that channel, IMO.
And I believe all those videotapes in people's closets containing TV movies and special episodes from the 1970's aren't rotting away half as fast as the film reels from the 1910-1930's that are turning to dust as we speak.
For those who can't get outside to enjoy the weather, TCM's got Doris off and on all day.

I knew I should have stayed to see what was on next -- I love Notorious, too.

Thanks for the tip! Alas, I'm at work tonight, so that one might be a rental.
I love the Hitchcock marathons. I did go and catch the end of Notorious tonight. Ingrid Bergman is just luminous in anything.
