Oh, yeah!
TALENTED GAL, that one.
"Becket"
"So Big!" 1932
SO GOOD!
Babs was a pretty young thing, wasn't she?
Yes and so was Miss Bette Davis.
What an excellent film.
NOW VOYAGER is next!
Mr. Skeffington is next!
Glebby, one of my best friends in the world, who is now sadly deceased, made her film debut as a contract player at Warners in "Mr. Skeffington." She plays Dr. Byle's nurse in an un-billed bit part, and shares the screen with Bette. And it was her first day on the lot. Miss Davis invited her to have tea in her dressing room to welcome her aboard.
Can you imagine, your very first day under contract to Warner Bros., and they call you in right away to play a scene with Bette Davis and George Coulouris?
Those were indeed "the days."
That is a cool story.
I just feel lucky because I am free and these two movies are on now!
Oh - High Society is on now! I love this movie and its music SO MUCH! It's a perfect cast - topped (in my lowly opinion) by the appearance and performance of Louis Armstrong. Just listen to Bing singing "Now You Has Jazz" and learn from a master!

Phew! Home just in time!
Wasn't that simply elegant? And now for (what I believe was the first) Frank and Bing duet. Just too, too perfect!
And Grace Kelly really is sensational. What a swell party this is!
Oh for the days when a good singer wasn't judged by their ability to scream as loud as possible.
I so agree, Mamie. And Grace is wonderful in this movie... sadly, her last.
And now -
"A Christmas Carol"!
Are we not lucky?
Oh, Glebby, I'm pulled away to DishNetwork right now... we have a freebie hi-def movie channel that's showing "Rear Window," and it's so great to see it in such fine detail.
Thelma Ritter is giving Jimmy Stewart a back rub, and I can read the label ingredients on the liniment bottle next to them!
I'm sticking with the Christmas Carol, Glebby. This is my favorite version.
edit: A tiny bit of "Christmas Carol" trivia - Gene Lockhart, who played Bob Cratchit, was the father of actress June Lockhart - who was the subject of a long thread here a while back. Gene's was a familiar face in films in the 30's and 40's.

Besty just pulled a Grace Kelly double feature: HIGH SOCIETY on TCM and now REAR WINDOW on the DishNetwork. I am now listening to my soundtrack of HIGH SOCIETY. I'm on my fourth listen of "True Love".
Mamie, all three acting "Lockharts" are in the MGM version of "A Christmas Carol."
Gene is Bob Cratchit, Kathleen (his real-life wife) is Mrs. Cratchit, and young June is one if the Cratchit children.
Pretty cool!
Who knew Grace could not only sing, but harmonize so beautifully on that song?
...and "True Love" with Bing and Grace Kelly (doing her own singing) was a #1 hit on the Billboard charts!
Can you believe she left everything at the height of her career for "true love?"
Glebby - you've got to stop jumping threads. You're making me dizzy.
