Feh. After DARK KNIGHT and the unspeakable INCEPTION, I won't waste my time with Christopher Nolan's ponderous crap any more.
Although that bit with the football field was pretty cool.

What really held together The Dark Knight for me was Heath Ledger's performance.
This looks like it'll be a fun watch, if nothing else.

Very over-long, partially speculative, quasi-critical reaction:
Much more comfortable with Hathaway as Selina Kyle (the mask was slightly a nod to who she was) in the shots shown.
I know people are done on Hardy's voice (he sounded very Goldfinger thanks to the dialogue) but I think he will give us a character who has long deserved to be a front and center villain. I know people think Bane is a roidhead, braindead luchador but it seems that Nolan is using the Knightfall trilogy take on the character.
Speaking of the Knightfall trilogy, the trailer itself seems to have easter eggs all over the place for anybody who read them. The trilogy is also getting a republishing in May. Hmm..... There are still paperbacks out there for cheap, albeit in three separate books, btw.
Love that Joseph Gordon Levitt and Marion Cotillard did not get an establishment for who they were. No lines, no hints, no imagery aside from themselves, nothing. It only further fuels the fan speculation that both of their characters, given the bland names of Miranda Tate and John Blake, actually have aliases and are not what they seem. The Knightfall story relations are not helping matters in terms of heeding the speculation.
The football scenes where there was raw footage made no sense. When it was announced it made no sense. Looking at it now, it makes no sense aside from Bane terrorizing. But why a football game? For a filmmaker who prides himself on using little CGI as possible and making decisions that are humanly possible for his non-superhuman powered characters, this seems like a little Roland Emmerich of Nolan. Especially when he gave himself the task of rehabilitating Bane back into the form of a Frankenstein's Monster meets Evil Genius villain. And here, he makes him make his move at a sporting event. I am sure the final cut of the CGI will be less out of place but the prison break and head-to-head combat scenes are much truer to Bane.
My only questions are, and this is a well-known fact this is the end of this series for this Batman, is that what is the timeline for this film. Technically Batman Begins showed years of an origins story but I saw gray hairs on Bruce Wayne whereas he looked like the usual yuppy in other shots. I find that pretty interesting, especially when there is a reported flashback scene and origins prologue for two different characters in the film. Yeah, this movie may take years but I eat this up for breakfast as a Batman fan.
So yeah, I will be the first in line to see this and will probably see it five more times after that.

Posted: 12/19/11 at 7:40pmI have been thinking about that since she was cast, especially when there was a new character added to the film that relates to Selina Kyle's seedier origins in Batman: Year One. Judging by the trailer Nolan seems to have her look sleek and classy rather than a girl from the wrong side of the tracks, the latter of which she totally would have been just too unbelievable for me.

Hated The Dark Knight, thought Ledger was beyond awful ( and really if he did not die, the role would have been seen as nothing special! )
But I will most likely see this as well, due to Hathaway, Levitt.

Posted: 12/20/11 at 9:22amI am not a Nolan fan. Obfuscation is not good filmmaking. Even in THE DARK KNIGHT action scenes, events and actions weren't clear. An imaginative fantasy like INCEPTION shouldn't give one a headache trying to follow it. Of course a story can be ambiguous, open to interpretation, and intellectually challenging, but the on the surface telling of of story shouldn't be an overtaxing exercise. The audience shouldn't be victims of the director's inelegance.

Yeah I didn't find Inception all that hard to follow either. It wasn't as if it was Lost Highway or something.
And Blaxx, I agree about Hathaway. I didn't even buy here for the short time she's in that trailer.

So what was so perplexing about INCEPTION, apart from the really outlandish acclaim it managed to get? It did seem admirably, evenly surrealistically, clearly laid out. What ambiguity was there?
Not looking to hound you, truly, just asking for information. It seemed pretty clearly laid out to me.

But why a football game?
I can't see why not a football game. A professional sporting event where thousands of people are congregating. That's being televised nationally as well as being watched in other countries via internet or whatnot. I don't know the numbers but I believe more people watch football games than hockey/basketball/baseball because of the once a week play. Not only would you have the death toll in the stadium but the shock and fear of those watching live.

I think Inception earned a reputation from certain critics and a lot of people on the internet that it was deeper and more original than it really was. I read different theories about what the film is supposed to mean, some of which I actually thought were pretty compelling (enough for me to go see the film at least two more times to see what the writers saw) but the movie itself did not give me a headache as much as the Nolan fanboys (yes, they exist and they are annoying) who acted like the movie was the invention of the wheel.
I actually think there is an argument that some of the action scenes and editing were confusing and sloppy in The Dark Knight. Film critic Jim Emerson made a video (available on the internet) analyzing the Joker attacking the police truck and how none it seemed tied to reality in its lack of continuity (the fanboys, as you can imagine, came out in full defense saying the confusion was on purpose). The movie was way more ambitious than Batman Begins in terms of its effects and from what I read The Dark Knight Rises is going to have even crazier effects and stunts. Hopefully the kinks are worked out as I don't want sloppy continuity effect great photography by Wally Pfister.

I saw that clip assembly from THE DARK KNIGHT that supposedly showed the alleged lack of continuity (which I never once felt by the way), and I can't say I found it especially convincing -- there are scenes in QUANTUM OF SOLACE that I found far more confusing while actually watching the film.
As much as I detest Nolan's bloated, pompous, self-important, ponderous and pretentious drivel, I'll say that his films are admirably produced and assembled. The editing in INCEPTION, for example, especially during that final section balancing all those dream levels, was really remarkable, and I'm still mystified at its lack of Oscar recognition.
