Did succeed:
THE ODD COUPLE
Didn't succeed:
A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN
MY BIG FAT GREEK LIFE
PRIVATE BENJAMIN
This is just off the top of my head...feel free to add more. And explain why you think certain one's succeeded and others didn't.
Did: ALICE Early to bed....
M*A*S*H
I liked PRIVATE BENJAMIN...it ran for a couple of seasons, didn't it? Not exactly a hit I suppose.
Didn't: FARGO (1 episode I think)
NINE TO FIVE (Though I liked it too)
My Big Fat Greek Wedding is the best comedy in nearly 20 years. I absolutley thought it was brilliant, touching, warmhearted, and hysterical. So, needless to say I was anxious for the show. My Big Fat Greek Life, in short, was a big fat greek mess.
DID: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
FAME did well
Parenthood, not so much

Didn't:
FAST TIMES (at Ridgemont High)
DELTA HOUSE (based on Animal House - featured a young Michelle Pfeiffer)
HOT L BALTIMORE
THE NEW ODD COUPLE (all black cast)
BAREFOOT IN THE PARK (black cast)
Broadway Legend Joined: 12/31/69
THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR played for several seasons
(I think. Well, I liked it.)
The unfortunate thing about My Big Fat Greek Life was that once it went to series, there was a writing team brought in...which is common. The result is that I think it lost a lot of its original "voice" and became a little to gimmicky. Too bad. It had such a great cast, and the movie was fantastic.
Successful - The Courtship Of Eddie's Father
Not- Look Who's Talking
Broadway Legend Joined: 5/15/03
Didn't: MY SISTER EILEEN (and Elains Stritch was Ruth)
Didn't -- Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (neither cartoon nor live action could sustain the Wyld Stallions on the small screen).
Broadway Legend Joined: 12/31/69
Did: THE MANY LOVES OF DOBIE GILLIS
Dwayne Hickman, Bob Denver, Tuesday Weld, Warren Beatty, and Sheila James Kuehl (who can forget Zelda Gilroy?)
PEYTON PLACE...Big hit
It gave the world hunky Ryan O'Neal, pretty Mia Farrow and the luscious (sp) Barbara Parkins.

Steel Magnolias - Elaine Stritch as Ouiser
Driving Miss Daisy
did not: clerks
Soul Food ran for several years on Showtime and Barbershop seems to be doing well too.
Was the series Flamingo Road with Morgan Fairchild in any way related to the Joan Crawford movie?
Yes it was. It was based on elements contained in the original novel by Robert Wilder and the 1949 film by Michael Curtiz.
The character of "Lane" was played by Joan Crawford in the film and by Cristina Raines in the 1980 TV series. Only the character's last name was changed from Bellamy in the movie to Ballou in the series.
Minor syndicated hit: Weird Science [1994-1997]. Based on the film of the same name that ran for 88 episodes.
Did not:
PAPER MOON
Do we all remember when Jodie Foster was the poor man's Tatum O'Neal?
Bomb: Karen Sisco starring Carla Gugino and based on a character from the movie Out of Sight.

Thanks, Marquise. Didn't they give Moonstruck a shot?
Wasn't there a TV series based on the Planet of the Apes movie? With James Naughton in a leading role?
and didn't it fail?
sidenote: I have a "baseball card" of the show with James Naughton's signature on it.(sick/funny gift from a friend).
I loved the Clerks animated series. I remember it being pretty funny. I think if Fox picked it up and ran it with Simpsons and Family Guy it would do quite well.
Akiva
kevin smith is not meant for tv, unless it's degrassi which is still bothering me a lot.
