I know this is a weird thing to post here but I'm coming to New York next week, I've wanted to get a tattoo for years & have finally decided on my design & am ready to take the plunge. I want to get it while in NY so that I can get it done in a city that actually means something to me.
Clearly there are many places to get a tattoo in Manhattan so could anyone suggest somewhere good, clean etc with a good reputation?
Thanks in advance.

My recommendation is don't get one.
And I certainly wouldn't get one out of town on the reccomendations of strangers. Surely you must know someone in your town that could reccommend a local place? Where you can be sure you feel comfortable there as well.
And it will likely be a helluva lot cheaper.
I find that the best rule of thumb is to notice tattoos on other people, and when you see those that you like, ask where they had them done.
That's what I did.
Also, some tattoo artists will do free (or discounted) touch ups as things fade and settle. You don't want to have to make a trip to NYC to do that every time you want maintenance.
If I can name drop for a second, I was speaking to Janeane Garofalo about getting a tat and she made me promise if/when I do that I use a place right next to Katz Deli. I can't think of the name but I'm sure there can't be too many right there.
