Taylor Swift's latest album, "Speak Now," has sold 1 million copies in its first week! She really is unstoppable. No album has sold a million albums in a first week since the debut of Lil’ Wayne’s "Tha Carter III" in 2008. Swift’s sales will also likely be the largest week for a country artist since Shania Twain’s Up sold 874K copies in November 2002. In fact, a country artist hasn’t sold more than a million albums in a week since Garth Brooks’ "Double Live" in November 1998.

It's too bad that record couldn't be broken by someone who can actually sing. I just cannot fathom her success. Clearly a deal with the Devil has been made.

Lil Wayne can sing?
I remember when the battle was between the Backstreet Boys and Nsync selling over 2 million copies in 1 day.
I don't know about Lil' Wayne but I probably wouldn't buy his music either.
I was referring to a country artist who could actually sing breaking the record.

Taylor will have a jukebox Broadway musical before you know it.

When will this whiny little "country" bitch go away?

Nobody is unstoppable (cf., Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone Penn Ritchie).
Clearly that pact with Satan has paid off handsomely. I love that a "singer" who can't sing sells one million copies of a record. Miracles never cease.
There was a time that Leanne Rimes sold impressively-now she plays casinos. Taylor Swift-meet your future.
I admit that I cannot claim to hearing her sing more than a handful of times, but she was never on pitch. Not once. Also, if the camera adds pounds, what the hell does this poor thing weigh?
She sold 1 million copies the first week, the GOP took over the House...coincidence?
These comments are hilarious, I'm assuming mostly from those who have not yet heard her new album?
Good for her, she's very talented and I think the album deserves its acclaim.

My comment is from hearing her sing on television, live, a few times. Always off pitch. I assume that she, like many others who cannot sing today, uses "Auto-Tune" to adjust her pitch issues in the recording studio. Although, I wouldn't know, I've never listened to any of her albums, and don't intend to listen to any of them.
Agreed, her live performances used to disappoint me. But, her vocals and especially songwriting have improved exponentially since her last release, and a lot of people (not just here) refuse to even consider that when discussing her work. Oh, well.
The fact Lil Wayne did it discredits this achievement hugely, for me.
I mean, yeah he's popular...but did that album produce anything noteworthy? No. I can only name one song from it, and even that wasn't a big hit.
Congratulations and everything, but all it means is that 1 million tweenagers got the album as soon as it came out - not that it's amazing. When they get a bit older and discover the joys of illegal downloading, her sales will plummet.
I do like her, and the album is 'alright' - but that's the problem, nothing she does is beyond that.

I became a fan of her's in 2008 when she sang "Love Story" at the CMA's. Then in 2009 I bought her album and thought all of her songs were brilliant. Afterwards, when she won album of the year at the ACM's, made her guest appearances on "Saturday Night Live," and when I got to see her live she became one of my favorite singers of all time. I'm always happy to see her have so much success.
I used to be a big fan of her... back when I liked Twilight.
In my opinion, she's kind of overrated and she needs to grow up.
Lady Gaga's new album coming out early next year, "Born This Way", will sell the same amount, I think.
^ I dunno, Gaga's appeal is truly international. Most of her fans are outside of the US, which is the complete opposite of Taylor who's only appeal is to Americans.
She probably won't sell a million copies in the first week domestically, anything from 400-700. It's up in the air really, anything could happen. Internationally though, I'd be surprised if she didn't go well over a million.

Taylor's album took substantial but expected drop in its second week. It sold 320,000 copies, but it still remained as the #1 album.

History has a way of repeating itself. Her new album 'Red' sold 1.2 million copies in its first weekend of release. She is now the first woman in chart history to ever have two albums sell over 1 million copies in their first weeks.

"History has a way of repeating itself." Wow man.
Viva blandness!
Now who wants a glass of room temperature skim milk?
I lost my younger sister to her recently because Ed Sheeran wrote and did a duet with her one of her songs on the album.
I've somehow managed to avoid any song full-length from this album thus far.
The only history that repeated itself was it was pretty obvious she once again wrote about a failed relationship with somebody of note with, "We Are Never Getting Back Together". I loved Ellen cornering her about who was the guy on her show.
