That's awesome Kelley. I hope tomorrow is nothing but pure unadulterated joy for you and your kids!
I know that teachers have to come up with more and more stuff for their classrooms and their kids every year. Be honest - is there anything a friend can provide or do to help you out? It's ridiculous to expect a teacher to provide so much out of her enormous salary!
So - what do you need? Books? Paper? art supplies? What?

"Idaho? Where their idea of good theater is Don Knotts starring in THE TENTH MAN?"
Don Knotts isn't starring in anything these days, Dolly!

Mamie, thanks. Acctually I am in need of books. I will be teaching Number the Stars next week and am still 7 copies shy. Apparently quite a few schools are teaching with it and I can't find copies anywhere around here. As those of you who are teachers know, if the school buys it they keep it if you leave so I am trying to get class sets of the books myself. Its a pricey job, but at least they will be my books.
For the first half of the year we will be reading Number the Stars, Island of the Blue Dolphins, Charlotte's Web, and The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. I'll pick out more books for the rest of the year later.

Ok...have to admit I had a little pang of envy there seeing your room! I'm "homeless' this year...they took my classroom for a "partial hospitilzation" class, so I'll be teaching on the stage, or in the art room, or the library or pushing my cart from room to room. How sad is it that I'm jealous of your bulletin boards?
Enjoy!

Are paperbacks ok? If so, send me your address in an email and I'll get you the Stars books right now.
Edit - Actually I can do that with hardbacks. Just let me know.

You voted America...now come and see the show!
You watched them every week on TV on the series Grease: You're The One that I want, now watch them live!
Max Crumm and Laura Osens are now starring as Danny and Sandy on Broadway in Grease!
Everybody that I have talked to LOVES it! One friend told me it was the best thing he has ever seen on Broadway.
I highly recommend this show to everybody as it is the Best Revival of any show in YEARS!
If you see one show in New York- see Grease.
It is the best show on Broadway in years!

Either one will work. The rest of the ones I have are paperbacks, but I'm not picking at all. I had two e-mail addresses for you so I sent it to both. Hopefully it will get to you.
Thank you! You are too sweet.

Posted: 8/12/07 at 10:31pmOh and thank you again to everyone who helped with Flat Stanley last year. I will be showing the kids the Flat Stanley book this week and start reading the book to them. I will have these kids bring in their own addresses to send Stanley to, but if anyone wants to have a visit from Flat Stanley let me know and we'll send one to you.

YAY, you'll be fabulous!
When I was little I'd always help my Mom put her classroom together....I loved doing that.
Knock em dead!

Kel, I am so excited for you. You will make an awesome teacher. The kids will all cry next year when they have to leave your classroom. Are you going to post from class, show the kids how the real world works? Put BWW on the overhead and do a live chat?
Oh, and Namo, with your record they would never let you stand before a room full of 4th graders. No worries there.

This is so exciting! Are you teaching one subject or all?
On your white board does it say "What is your favorite show?"?
If it does, that is so great.
When does school get out for these kids? Isn't it pretty early to start school.
SingingWendy- Will you post that letter in another thread?

I can't access BWW from work so no overheads of meltdown threads or anything. Personally I feel that the kids will be missing out, but our internet filter blocks this out.
On the board is their first journal entry topic that says "What makes a good teacher? What makes a good student?" Please write in complete sentences and in paragraph form. Apparently these kids can barely string together a paragraph so we will be hitting writing pretty hard.
The class is a little smaller than I'm used to from student teaching. I have 21 kids. My classroom is pretty big though, it just doesn't look like it due to the angle of the picture.
Thank you all again for the encouragement. I just got up and I'm about to get ready so I can get in early and do a few more last minute things.
ETA- I just got done reading my PMs and I want to thank everyone who has asked if they could help with the books I need. I figured it would be easier to just post the list here. Please, please, please do not feel like anyone has to help out in any way, I just wanted to get the list out there to those that asked and I didn't have time to reply to all those PMs just yet.
Island of the Blue Dolphins- 16
The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe- 15
Charlotte's Web- 7
Ok, now I'm really going to go get ready. Thanks again everyone.

Just another reason to love you. On behalf of people everywhere who love clear communication: Thank You.
Can't wait to hear about the day. And, Sueleen, I believe there is something called a Statue of Eliminations, ok?
