No, but accepting Texas into the Union nearly has.

Reggie T for the win.
Tyler is an backwards shithole armpit even by Texas standards. It's the same part of the state where they drag black people behind trucks. Updated On: 10/27/10 at 01:47 PM

Message to gays in Texas -- it gets better, but you have to GET THE F**K OUT OF TEXAS.

Actually, Austin is a bit of a gay paradise. If you fly in and not leave town, it's a great gay getaway. (Although I'd have to leave the city limits to drive to The Salt Lick about 45 minutes out of town- the BEST Bar-B-Que restaurant in the world.)
However I guess the voting has been overwhelmingly "YES"?
Of course. Gays want to rape your children and drink their blood. Everybody knows that.
And Houston has a lesbian mayor.
East Texas, however, is just vile. Look up the stories on Vidor, Texas, sometime if you have a strong stomach. Any time I drove to Louisiana from Houston--you have to pass through it on that route--I just prayed my car wouldn't break down there.

To be fair, West Texas is petty bad too. As is North Texas. And a goodly chunk of South Texas. And a lot of the middle.
Well to be really fair, you could replace "United States" with "Texas" in that sentence, and it wouldn't change its accuracy all that much.
Reg - if you're going to win a thread, at least have the courtesy to let others get a few words in first. It's anti-climactic to give a definitive response just four minutes after the original post.
Calling it "poorly worded at best and inappropriate altogether at worst," the general manager of the Texas NBC affiliate that broadcast yesterday's "Will homosexuals bring about America's destruction?" segment has issued an apology. The story became national news after being posted here on JMG thanks to a tip from a reader in Texas. CORRECTION: The below apology is from the manager of the radio station whose program was simulcast on the television station referenced further down in this post.
There are many issues surrounding homosexuality that are fair game for discussion in the media and in opinion journalism. The proper role, if any, for openly gay individuals in the military, the legitimacy of same-sex marriages and the public behavior by some individuals at gay and lesbian events held outdoors in public view are among topics about which reasonable people may disagree. These and other topics surrounding homosexuality are topics that talk radio hosts and opinion journalists may legitimately pose to their respective audiences.
With that said, the way our Talkback question was posed might be seen as asking, “Do homosexuals, by their very existence, threaten to bring down America?” We believe that such a question, posed in such a manner, is likely to generate more heat than light. I understand how those who either heard, or heard about, KTBB’s Talkback question on Wednesday might have been offended. For the offense that was taken, we sincerely apologize.

For me, it had nothing to do with the fact that the question was asked. Many people DO feel that it's a true possibility and as Americans, they do have the right to talk about that. I did not, however, appreciate how it was delivered by any of the journalists involved. They were all snide and snarky, as if being gay was the WORST thing imaginable. They said at the beginning that they were the only ones covering it. That should have given them a clue.

Hey, North Texas isn't all that bad.
Houston, Austin and D/FW seem to be reasonably ok places (granted we had that issue in Fort Worth last year) and having lived most of my 24 years on this planet in D/FW, it's way better here than the 3 I spent in Arkansas.
If the station is truly sorry, then all three anchors should apologize on the air. I think they should also do a segment called "Is Bullying and Ignorance Destroying America?" They should have callers call in and play mostly the positive ones since the voice mails they played in the original segment were mostly anti gay. They should give this new story equal time as the original and then apologize again. Give numbers and websites for help, advice, and support for bullying. This would be a good sign that they really do feel remorse for their hatred and bigotry.
