this match is killing me

The Sharapova match this afternoon was quite disappointing. I love her so much, but she made way too many unforced errors today. All Caroline had to do was stay in each point and wait for Maria to make the error. It was definitely painful to watch...if Maria hadn't double faulted so much, it would have been a closer match. Given her side of the draw, I do think Caroline will make the finals now (as she did last year).

Tomorrow, I am nervous for Venus' match. She is playing 2010 French Open Champion Francesca Schiavone, who has been looking great this tournament. Venus hasn't really been challenged yet, so this match will be tough...I hope she can pull out the win.

Also, tomorrow evening's match between 2009 US Open Champion Kim Clijsters and 2010 French Open Finalist Samantha Stosur should be excellent. Of course Kim is the favorite to win, but Stosur is playing so well, that she could give Kim a run for her money.

On the men's side, now that Andy Murray is out, Rafa will likely get into the finals (since he doesn't have much competition on his side of the draw). Federer has to get through 2010 French Open Finalist Robin Soderling and number 3 seed Novak Djokovic to make it to the finals - both players should be a challenge.

Really looking forward to this second week of play!

Not a pretty Women's finals going on right now, kind of disappointing after such a great Men's semi-final match. Nervous for tomorrow, definitely pulling for Novak

*sigh* I was gone all day and didn't see any of it. Happy for Kim - pulling for Rafa.

Federer/Djokovic is sure to be a classic, what a great match. I've never seen control back bounce and forth so often. Hopefully Noel brings at least a similar game tomorrow

I agree that Kim's remarks were so classy. It was only a few years back when she was still choking away matches after seemingly insurmountable leads in late rounds of the majors. I call her "Killer Mom" now because it seems like that she entered her "second career" with something she separately lacked the first time out, that is killer instinct. She set out to destroy poor Vera and executed the plan perfectly.

Re: the dudes...I still sense that Nole plays to the NYC crowd better than Rafa so I'm giving him a slight edge. Also, Rafa's crosscourt forehands still tend to land short when he's pressed which are perfect fodder for Nole's backhand down the line. It will be interesting to see if Nole successfully punishes Rafa's loopy forehands right from the start.

Nota Bene: While Rafa leads the head-to-head series 14-7, Nole's won their last 3 encounters, all on hard courts.

It actually worked out on my end. The Broncos game against Jacksonville was delayed due to weather in Jacksonville and just ended. I was afraid that the delay would mean the game would cut into tennis and Denver would opt to show the rest of the football game. They are both on the same network. Not sure how it would have worked out though. I don't know who would have had "priority".

So I am going to read with the tv on and just wait!

I had things perfectly timed with Aladdin/Giants game, and then the Giants/Yankees games and then I would have the match/Yankees game and then Big Brother. Now I've seen the 5th set of yesterday's match about 5 times because they keep replaying it xD

Giants won, Yankees lost, so my luck is up in the air
