Thanks b12, what a nice way to start the day!

God, Karen Carpenter, what a voice...what a shame.

I also love the Carpenters/Perry Como medley. But imagine my disappointment when I got it of iTunes and discovered that Richard had dubbed over most of Como's singing!

He's a fabulous pianist and more than adequate for back-up, but a lead thinger he ain't.

Richard has done that before with duets from television shows. But only because he cannot secure clearance to use the other person's vocal, not because he wants to hear himself sing. I'd rather he did that and released Karen's vocal, than not release it at all. While he's no Perry Como or John Davidson (another duet he released and provided a vocal), his voice is perfectly acceptable. I like his lead vocals on their earlier albums, and his back-up vocals are excellent.

Karen's voice was amazing. Did I read somewhere that in addition to drums she played the flute? I only ask because another of what I consider to be the top popular music voices, Annie Lennox, also played/plays the flute....and one of the best non-famous female singers I know has that twin talent too. Something about the "long breath"? the pitch control of the embouchure?

just keep swimming along, don't rise to the....
