It is a shame we cannot make it as my wife could have supplied us with unlimited wine as she works in the industry
Oh well. maybe next time.
I'll be there, assuming I get back from Texas on time as planned.
Atrias,
You'd better be back from Texas by then! We don't want any excuses.
BTW, I, too, have always wished I could fly. I tried it once in my basement when I was a kid. That experience should have prepared me for life's many disappointments...but it didn't. And I still want to be able to fly.
Miss Penny - Really wish I could come. I'm thinking about it. When are you going to NYC? The flights are really cheap now. I am out of school next week so I will have time, now I just need the cash!
Bwayaddict, I'm going to shorten your name to "Badd"!
Join us!!! Why not??? We'd all love it. So would you!
I'll be in NYC the following weekend (July 7-10)...and again in September, the last weekend.
There's nothing to do in Michigan in July, is there? (Just kidding!)
I might. I think air fare will go down yet and if I don't go to NYC then I might be able to make it. I actually tried to talk my husband into going to DC then as the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Reunion is that week in DC. We could combine the two but he said he's done with those reunions. However, that has never stopped me from going somewhere if I really what to and if there is a will there is a way!
Badd,
Remember you have 3 airports to choose from: BWI, Dulles, and National (also referred to as "Ronald Reagan Airport," but I will never stoop so low.)
(I prefer to fly in and out of BWI because it's easiest to get to from my house.)
Keep us posted!!! (You would probably win the prize for the person who traveled the farthest to attend.)
Will this be covered on the local news with one & all coming from everywhere? I called the NY Airport Kennedy even though it is really Idlewild but I am more open & not that hung up on things
Just kidding. Sounds like fun. Hope all who attend have a good time
I am in interested in meeting up with the rest of the DC-based people!
Millie42- Good to hear you are back in the area! Looking forward to seeing you again.
KCheno,
Do you live in the DC or NYC area?
It'll be great to meet you!
Penny
I am in DC- one of those Washington types!
KCheno,
I remember sending you all kinds of train info about DC-NYC, but I don't recall which end of the line you were on!
'Tis ok. Trust me, I would rather be on the other end of the line.
Every place has its good points and bad points. I think about moving back to New York a lot, but then I just think about "moving" and say, "Ah, forget it."
This does sound like fun, but Penny, I hope you have that painting insured. And make sure the little ones are locked up real good in the basement...
Sueleen,
I always lock the little ones up in the basement.
You ARE talking about the cats, aren't you?
Penny
Thought I would bump this in case someone missed it.
Can't wait to see everyone!
Sueleen better be talking about kitties...... I can't wait to see my girlfriend again!
How is that guest list and menu shaping up?
How appropriate that you are showcasing your new painting on the same weekend that my latest exhibit will be opening. I do hope you'll have an armed guard on duty.

Little ones locked in the basement.
Thank you, Sueleen, for prompting me to post. This seems to be the weekend to post my comment for which I'm certain I'll be vilified.
Your suggestion to lock away the little ones reminded me of what triggered a goose bump reaction when I first read this thread. My mind, which obviously doesn't work like many others posting on his board, went to Jon Benet Ramsey. Perhaps it was the open house invitation for strangers to enter a residence where the child's photos have been posted.
Creepy.
There seems a kaffeeklatsch mentality on the board where people think they know other people very well, whether they have met or not. A place where only those posting in a thread are the only ones reading the thread. This is a place where conversations cavalierly are tossed about as though the outside world doesn't exist. It's a place where so many posters seem to play games and wear mask. It's a place where I put little trust in what others write.

UPDATE
June 30: Some Ground Rules
1. Sorry, but you have to be 21 to come to my house because I will be serving alcohol and I do not want to be responsible for anyone's under-age drinking. While I do not want anything bad to happen to anyone at my home, I am especially concerned about young people.
2. Most of those attending the soireé at my home are friends with whom I have spent a good deal of time and know very well. Anyone I have not yet had the chance to meet myself has an established friendship with one of my friends. So, in a way, you've all had "background checks" and have received "clearance."
3. I have not published my address on the board and do not plan to. Once I know for sure who is coming, I will give out directions (privately).
4. Is anyone interested in going to Tryst on Saturday night, July 1? I ask this because no one has mentioned it. If no one wants to go, everyone in the Mame party can return to my house.
6. For anyone who is concerned about the safety of my children, I thank you. That's very kind and compassionate of you. Believe me, they are--and will be--well protected. (Side note: It is well-documented that the vast majority of child predators are NOT strangers. In 90% of cases, child predators are known to the child, usually a family member, friend, caregiver, neighbor...someone who has the opportunity to come into contact with the child on a frequent basis and to be alone with the child.)
7. Fortunately, my original Dan Perez is larger than any of the people who will be at the party. And, although he doesn't know it yet, my husband is staying up straight through the night to ward off the many art thieves lurking in our neighborhood.
P.S. etoile, I don't appreciate the use of the word "creepy" in this instance. I reserve a word like "creepy" for someone who exhibits deviant behavior. If you think that someone is not acting in the best interest of a "potential victim" you might choose another word. "Naive" is one, but there are many others more appropriate than "creepy." There are also words that may actually be helpful and informative rather than insulting and condescending. But perhaps it was not your goal to be helpful and informative.
Well said, MP. You know that I'm looking forward to both days. I'm thinking about wearing something glittery and sparkly in honor of my namesake. If I do, you'll have to turn both the lights and the air conditioner down. (All my glittery duds are for winter!)

I wanna go!!
Who wants to house me?
