My favorite.... "There is still hope"

This thread inspired me to watch ROTK tonight. I'm almost done.
Another awesome moment is when Pippin and Gandalf are fighting at Minas Tirith and Pippin saves Gandalf's life by stabbing the orc.
A lot of people don't like her, but I thought that Liv Tyler gave a beautiful performance in The Two Towers.
I agree about Liv Tyler. In LOTR she had an ethereal beauty/grace that was perfect for Arwen. I thought she was great in FOTR, as well.
I cry when Frodo kisses Sam on the forehead in the Grey Havens scene. And that last smile is haunting. Just beautiful.

The trilogy is brilliant and they've become my favorite movies. They really are magic, I agree. I used to watch one of them every day. So I've practically memorized the dialogue. My friend is actually meeting Elijah today, lol. She's getting me an autograph, I'm quite excited.
.
I love you all for replying to this topic.
LOTR is amazing :) Two favorite moments are definitely the ride of the Rohirrim over Pelennor, and Pippin's song.

1. Pippin's song
2. at the VERY end, when the four hobbits all stand up and everyone bows to them. Heartbreaking.
Oh God, Judy, how could I forget that? That kills me every time.
Oh, and I've also forgotten the "What about breakfast?" scene.

Oh I would love to meet Elijah (and Sean Astin and John Rhys Davies) this weekend! :) Elijah is amazing and I love his eyes.
Boromir's death is the saddest moment of the trilogy for me. Beautiful, but sad.
For more "fun" moments, I love the Buckleberry Ferry scene in FOTR. :)
So much of what make those movies incredible magic is Howard Shore's music, which is utterly sublime.

Agreed, Alejandra. The Gondor theme gives me chills every time.

I've so enjoyed this thread - thanks, everybody. One part that for me was a wonderful moment came in The Fellowship of the Ring, when Frodo first wakes up in Rivendel and goes out into the terrace and meets Bilbo. What a lovely, understated moment. Choke up every time.
Also love the scene where Frodo and Sam discuss the "stories that really mattter."
And don't forget Theoden's "I know your face" scene in Return of the King.
anytime I got to look at Viggo was a good time...
but I am in love with this trilogy... so beautiful and well-made
I simply cannot limit myself to one moment. It's impossible. So here's my rundown:
FOTR:
*Frodo's heartwrenching closeup after Gandalf disappears in the Mines of Moria
* "I made a promise, Mr. Frodo. A promise. 'Don't you leave him, Samwise Gamgee.' And I don't mean to. I don't mean to."
TTT:
*Elrond's vision of Arwen's future: "Do I not also have your love?"
*Sam's speech at the end, especially "There's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for."
ROTK:
Oh, where to start, where to start?
*Smeagol's prologue
*Merry and Pippin dancing on tables at Edoras
*Arwen's vision of Aragorn and their son
*Pippin's song
* "Don't go, Mr. Frodo. Don't go where I can't follow."
*Gandalf's speech to Pippin about the Grey Havens
* "I am no man!"
* "For Frodo."
* The whole scene in Mount Doom
* "I'm glad to be with you, Samwise Gamgee. Here at the end of all things."
*The whole coronation scene: The speech, the song, the reunion with Arwen, and of course, My friends! You bow to no man."
*Sam and Rosie's wedding
*The whole damn scene at the dock. Most especially when Frodo boards the boat and looks back to the others, all the color back in his cheeks, and nods as if to say "Don't worry about me, I'll be all right."
*The very end, with Sam returning home to his family. "Well, I'm back."
*Merry and Pippin dancing on tables at Edoras
And also the tiny 2-second addition to this scene in the Extended Edition, where Pippin looks back at Gandalf and stops singing. It just adds an extra poignancy to their relationship (fraught as it is with Pippin's remorse for what happened in Moria), and helps set up their interaction later in the movie.
I found that, for ROTK's Extended Edition especially, those little extensions for the scene add much nuance to an already fine film, and are as memorable as the larger scene additions. For example, I loved how they changed Pippin's search for Merry on the war-ravaged fields into a night scene, to show that he had been looking for his friend all night.
So what's your favourite new addition of the Extended Editions? I'll do one per film installment:
FOTR -- "Farewell to Lorien" and Galagriel's gift-giving scene. Gimli: "I asked for one hair from her golden head. She gave me three."
TWO TOWERS -- Faramir's huge flashback scene. Of all scenes, I wish they put this in the original cut, because it adds so much to Faramir's character and becomes the dramatic catalyst for the father-son story strand in ROTK.
ROTK -- I have two.
Gandalf's confrontation with the Witch King (heart-stopping!), and the night scene in Mordor where Sam looks up past the clouds and sees a star.
"For example, I loved how they changed Pippin's search for Merry on the war-ravaged fields into a night scene, to show that he had been looking for his friend all night."
Oh, yeah! I forgot about that. Good change. I'm glad they put more of Pippin in the extended cut, though I wish they'd included "We *will* see the Shire again."
