Couldn't find the thread already in existence.
Saw this yesterday - thought it was all over the place. The first hour is pretty good, faithful to the book...then it just completely derails into something the screenwriters made up. A disappointing end to the trilogy.
Anyone else see it yet?

I'd give it a 6 or 7 out of 10.
There were some glorious moments, but there were also some "what were they thinking" moments as well. But as much as I love these films, that's been the case with all 6 LotR/Hobbit movies. While The Desolation of Smaug was stretched out too thin, this one felt choppy and rushed in most parts (at 2 hours 15 minutes it's the shortest PJ Middle Earth movie). Still the finale was saved for me by the amazing chemistry and performances of Martin Freeman and Richard Armitage.

Posted: 12/16/14 at 5:47pmI can't wait for the extended cut of these films (if they'll ever be a boxed set like the previous trilogy).

Aside from one particularly disgusting moment with Stephen Fry in "Smaug", I do prefer the extended editions for the previous two films and can imagine a handful of my criticisms in film 3 being corrected by clearly missing scenes.

Posted: 12/17/14 at 11:02amThe film did feel rushed and left many loose ends. I enjoyed it a lot but I'm definitely looking forward to the extended cut next year. I thought the Galadriel scene was fantastic and Martin Freeman is wonderful.
