couldn't that be said about most actors? If you have prior oppinions that they're awful you will force yourself to beleive that?

My roommate had a biography of James Dean and had me scan this so we could blow it up and hang it on the wall.

I think his death had a lot to do with his fame granted! However the same can be said for Judy Garland and Marolyn Monroe! The reason they're remembered isn't the sole reason they are remembered though Judy in Wizard... Marolyn in The White Dress and most people know James Dean from Rebel or that he was the king of cool! Olga Korbut is the most famous gymnast yet she was never the best, George Best will always be remembered for his football aswell as his drunken exploits and in years to come Lea Salonga will be remembered for her Disney work more than as Kim in Saigon!

Well said. His existing performances weren't what made him a legend. It was his presence, and the potential he had yet to display on screen.
