I believe Anniversary Week starts today.
Happy 50 years to Joffrey, and here's looking to 50 years and more!
Take so much pride in your work, Glebby. You're keeping his vision alive through the beauty you maintain.

Maybe a certain beautiful ballet star from my youth will sign it for me next time he comes to NY...?

Thanks Addy!
I think the company is quite happy today. The current dancers are excited about meeting over one hundred dancers from the past fifty years. They are excited to see the actual people they've heard so many stories about.
Thursday night's program will offer PAS DES DEESSES (Dance of the Goddesses) John Feild/Robert Joffrey-1954, Mr. Joffrey's tribute to the great Romantic era Ballerinas. It's based on a real ballet (opening and closing with the actual pose from a lithograph of Pas Des Deesses), that was part of a command performance for Queen Victoria at Her Majesty's Theatre, London - July 23, 1846. The three greatest Ballerinas of that era made up the cast: Marie Taglioni (first Ballerina to dance en pointe), Lucille Grahn and Fanny Cerrito, partnered by Arthur Saint-Leon (choreographer of Coppelia and Cerrito's husband).
Pas Des Deesses is my favorite ballet of all time.

What a thrill for all of you!
It's living history, isn't it?
I'll have to check the Chicago newspapers for coverage of it...
(give a hug to one of my favorite dancers, please! And have him give you one back!)

Glebb - when I see your avatar I am immediately reminded of the ee cummings poem:
i thank You God for most this amazing
day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky;and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes
I hope the Joffrey has a leaping greenly week!

Thank you BT. That is beautiful.
I will copy it and keep it.
beacon1 - Coppelia is about a girl (Swanilda) who thinks her bf (Franz) is in love with the doll (Coppelia) who sits in the window of the local doll maker's shop. Swanilda sneaks in to the shop and takes Coppelia's clothes and sits in her chair. The doll maker thinks that his doll has come to life and is left in dispair when Franz and Swanilda trash the doll shop and run off. All is forgiven at the wedding of Swanilda and Franz in Act III.
