She's absolutely fabulous. Very talented and unique, and unflaggingly committed to her style. I can't wait to see what she does next.

I think it's kinda hilarious that people are saying that we'll never have more iconic pop stars. That's completely absurd. The reason icons become icons is because they're few and far between and because they last. There is NO way you can predict whether or not Gaga will become a real icon who is remembered for years or if Lady Gaga will be my generation's Kajagoogoo. It's hard to say.

I will say, to aspire to be Britney Spears or Madonna would be kinda questionable for Lady Gaga since she can actually, you know, SING. Neither of them really possess much actual vocal talent. I'm not even knocking them. They've managed to last in a business where women often don't last. Still, Gaga completely TROUNCES both of them in regards to actual musical talent. Britney hasn't been able to actually sing since she was about 10 and Madonna's never had a particularly wide range.

You know, even though you may not like her music, she's obviously doing something right. She's caused a heated discussion on a BROADWAY message board. Need I say more?

GaGa is just GaGa. I personally think she is a beautiful artist and The Fame Monster has quickly become one of the most played CDs on my iPod.

She's approaches music as an art, which is something people haven't done in a long time. She's refreshing, can sing her face off, and is a damn good performer.

Love her or hate her, but as another pop diva says, all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to 'if you seek am-ger'. No one is able to top her right now.

Just watching her performances on Ellen...

Not loving the look for it, kind of an opaque rubber nurse outfit...but the glam-superhero eyes are quite cool.

Her vocals were great on Speechless and the intro to Bad Romance, she's definitely at home with a piano as much (if not more) as with big dance tracks.

Her dance moves weren't her best, probably down to the weird dress, but she seemed to be focusing on giving a good vocal performance over the routines. Perhaps because her AMA and to an extent Leno performances of 'Bad Romance' compromised her vocals for putting on a show.

She's improving with each performance of it, which is great cus she has 'X Factor' next week and I hope she NAILS it. People haven't seen her massive performances over here in the UK, so this is a perfect opportunity to show people exactly what she's about.

It's practically a given she'll get number 1 too, which is great news...especially because her (unreleased) second single 'Telephone' is catching up in the top 20 without promo/video/announcement/performance/anything. I smell another number 1...

She already has Bad Romance as the number one song and video.

On iTunes, CS, but I think toanythingtaboo was referring to the Billboard Hot 100, on which Bad Romance was number 2 this week... though I suspect it'll move its way up next week.

For all the haters, here's "Bad Romance" sung live with a new, reworked piano-only opening...as if we didn't already know girl could belt to the rafters from the first ever performance of this song on SNL... FIERCE performance of the frooshest song on that amazing album.

I LOVE Gaga, am seeing her next week, and as I said before the only thing I'm disappointed in is how they ****ed up and released the censored version of her album across all physical platforms--I'll hold out till the promised CDs (with such shocking words as Bitch not masked out) from Cherry Tree Records come out.

However

"She's approaches music as an art, which is something people haven't done in a long time. She's refreshing, can sing her face off, and is a damn good performer."

While I agree I have to stress that you mean it's something no *mainstream pop star* has done in a long time. That's Gaga's brilliance IMHO she takes some of the more "out there", unique and adventurous qualities out there and incorporates them with damn catchy brilliant pop.

Her main co writer and producer, RedOne is hardly cutting edge avant garde pop--but it's the combination of the mainstream and the not so mainstream that IMHO is her true brilliance (and also the reason she gets so much hate--some see it as pretentious, or people who themselves are pretentious see her "stealing" from lesser known artists--all of which is silly. Pop is all about appropriation and incorporation of what others have done before you as Gaga herself would admit, as for Gaga being pretentious anyone who can't see the pretention is part of her brilliantperformance is braindead).

From a purely personal POV though I have to say I'm not diffing her FameMonster outfits as much as I was for The Fame--all the white and flesh tone stuff kinda puts me off and she's starting to go a bit too much into Bowie's Ziggy Stardust era look (I love Bowie but the physical look of him as Ziggy, for some reason, never appealed to me). And 'm already sick of that super high collar/book jacket thing she's been wearing a bit. Still always interested to see what's next.

I was more specifically talking about the UK. The X Factor dominates the charts here to the point where it's ridiculous, number 1 goes to the guest performer each week...and most of those guest performers have been former contestants with one of the judges and SuBo thrown in for good measure. The public here buy whatever they're told to, no questions asked. There are only THREE non-X Factor related songs in the top 10; Ke$ha, Jason Derulo and GaGa.

If GaGa's got to number 5 without any promo, she'll sure as hell get number 1 after she wins over the public.

I wouldn't be surprised if she got number 1 in the US next week. Once Adam/Rihanna/SuBo's albums spike and fall, GaGa will top the album chart too I reckon with each hit single - especially Telephone.

Really wish she could have rounded off that performance with Bad Romance (if the rumours are to be believed). Damn timing schedules.

Have to say, it's impressive how she captivated that audience and owned the stage alone with two essentially unknown songs (one of which was like 90% improvised it seemed). Not many artists could pull that off, a testament to what a powerhouse she really is I think.

The performance seemed unfinished (probably due to the Bad Romance cut) but generally I think it was great. Hauntingly beautiful, heavenly almost which was probably for McQueen instead of all black. LOVED that sculpture too.

So glad she won all three awards she was nominated for, deserved it on so many levels. Especially after the US award shows haven't exactly gone her way.

This saddens me a bit:

Any number of artists have asked to collaborate with her. Was Lady Gaga one of them?

"I just don't play with other acts as a rule," she says, with rare discretion.

What does she think of her? "I really don't think of her at all. I go about my business."

Has she copied her? "Well, you know, I've seen some things she's worn that I've worn, and that does kind of piss me off."

Is she talented? "I wouldn't go to see her."

So, did she ask to play with her? "Yes, she did, but I said no. I'd just prefer to work with someone who is more original and someone who is not copying me, actually."

I teach English to juniors and seniors. Yesterday one of my juniors asked me if I had seen Lady Gaga's video of Bad Romance. I told her I had not. She said, "You'd like it. The end is like the story we read called A Rose for Emily." Not only was that satisfying to hear as a teacher, but she is right. From Faulkner to Lady Gaga, who knew?

Gaga excites and fascinates me more than any other pop star since... Michael Jackson? I think she's absolutely wonderful, and I can't even imagine what she'll come up with next.

Seeing her MSG performance on July 7th, and it cannot come soon enough :)

Grace Jones is not impressed. Seems Gaga wanted to do a duet with her and was turned down...

I like that article, MrMidwest. Especially "[t]rust pop stars at your own peril" and her vocals "never didn't sound live and never didn't sound fantastic."

I think the "narcissist populist" thing hits something accurately. Gaga's kinda Jungian that way, and as Jung famously said we're never going to get through this century if we can't hold two contradictory ideas in our head and know that both of them are right.

And Jung meant the last century!

I don't think Gaga's shtick about preaching freedom, liberation and unity is disingenuous. Over the top, certainly, but it comes from a sincere place. If she didn't care, I really don't think she'd bother putting so much effort into hammering the point home.

She's obviously an insecure young woman who spent the majority of her life feeling awkwardly out of place in a convent school with Paris Hilton types ruling the roost. That is now contrasted with her being catapulted into extreme popularity and success, with millions of people declaring their love for her - including the Paris Hilton types. That would be confusing in itself, but then there's the fact that she has adopted a larger than life personality - do they love her for her, or do they love her as Gaga? I guess it's just an exaggerated issue many of us face at her age - discovering who you are and what you want. She'll evolve and settle.

I think she's made a conscious decision to put herself second, and create Lady Gaga as everything she wanted in a popstar growing up. Musically and visually, she has taken elements from her favourite artists and combined it to make the 'ultimate' popstar. But most importantly, she's made a true role model for the underdogs and outcasts, something that Britney et all could never be.
