Who else loves the television show. I never see it on tv anymore, but I have a video with a lot of episodes that I watch from time to time and just laugh and laugh.
I grew up watching the shorts on tape. They're so delightfully goofy. Very un-PC, but goofy. I especially remember the Wild Man of Borneo. "Yum-yum eat 'em up!" If I remember correctly, didn't that one end with everyone jumping out a window?
My brother and I used to wake up at the buttcrack of dawn on Saturdays, sneak down to the TV room, and watch THE LITTLE RASCALS until our parents got up. (Good times!) It never failed to crack us up.
While I do think some of the dialogue and characters were a bit racist at times, I still think it was good that they were all friends. Buckwheat, Farina, and Stymie were never really subserviant to the others, they seemed pretty much like equals for the most part. Especially compared to how adult African-Americans were used in film at that time.
I haven't seen 'Wild Man of Borneo' in a while, but I remember thinking Spanky was so brilliant in that one. Great comic timing.
Actually, the title is "The Kid From Borneo" and it is my ALL TIME favorite episode. Spanky was GENIUS and he was only 6 years old (I think) when it was filmed.
mattonstage: Black and white children were allowed to play together way back when. Only after they reached a certain age was it considered taboo for them to be seen together. (I read that in an MLK biography.)
Watching Spanky ask the Wild Man questions he couldn't care less about is hiarious. "Do you know about technocracy?"
haha. I am going to have to watch that tomorrow when I get up
"You don't want to eat me... mom says I'm spoiled!"
Such a brilliant kid!
I know that "The Little Rascals" was popular before Spanky came along, but I think he made the show even better when he appeared on it. His facial expressions alone are priceless.
I didn't watch the TV show, but I was obsessed with the 90's movie. Anybody here remember?
Dear Darla,
I hate your stinkin' guts.
You make me vomit.
You are the scum between my toes.
Love Alfalfa
Same here, MLR. I love that movie.
"I got a pickle, I got a pickle, I got a pickle hey hey hey hey!"
MLR--we used to go around the playground saying that over and over when that movie first came out.
My favorite part is "Come see the 10 Foot Man Eating Chicken!"

I was fascinated by the LIttle Rascals. I couldn't figure out how they got those kids to be so natural. Of course those tiny little kids weren't memorizing lines-I just couldn't figure out how they created such a show. It was one of a kind! thanks for bringing it up.
BTW-LOVE your av, N!
How bout' the " He Man Woman Haters Club" ..and prior to the Target Dog was the fammous Petey. and of course, the baddest Little Rascal of all...little Mickey Gubitosi played by Robert Blake.
Robert Blake
How about that strange sound they made when they were baking a cake? I was afraid of that sound and had to cover my ears when I heard it!
Love the LR, especially Spanky when he was very young...such a smart kid, even as a baby!
The film shorts were actually called "Our Gang", later named the Little Rascals or Hal Roach's Little Rascals. They were made as shorts for movie theaters, not for tv...it wasnt invented yet.
