re: Snapple Fact of the Day

But if it wasn't for him, Sondheim could have never written "Pacific Overtures." So that's one point for in his favor.

*briefly returns to compliment linnie*

linnie, you're so bright and informative! A lot of American kids your age don't know who is the leader of Ireland, let alone one that lived over one hundred years ago.

Oh, honey, most Americans -- kid or adult -- don't even know who Millard Fillmore is.

re: Snapple Fact of the Day

Did you guys know that our first Taoiseach (Irish for Prime Minister) was born in Manhattan? How come we don't get to have an Irish President in America? If we do, I call first shot...

re: Snapple Fact of the Day

Who's Bill O' Reilly? On a scale of 1 to 10, how nnoying is he, and why? I might just bring him back to Carlow, that's the most pointless place in Ireland anyway.

Next up, Rookie Cookie's recipe! Slice some apples, soak them in cider, sprinkle with cinammon and cook for 30 minutes at 350 for a baked delight! But be sure to get a grown-up to help with the cutting and handling the oven.

Are you sure you don't write for mini page??? I swear I got that recipe last week!!!

9.5 out of 10. Conservative blowhard on Fox News who loves to bully his guests and tell them to shut up. Got in touble for making lubricious calls to an underling.

And if his show has not reached your shores, that gives me a reason to consider moving to Ireland.

eta: TheaterMO, right now, they only will let me draw the little hidden object pictures. It's hell trying to find a new way to disguise the word "mini" each week.

re: Snapple Fact of the Day

Maybe I could bring Bill O'Reilly to Carlow in that case, that would raise the averade level of intelligence in both Carlow and the US...

re: Snapple Fact of the Day

This in response to linnie's earlier question above: You have to be born in the U.S. in order to become president. Therefore, a foreigner born in Ireland would not be eligible for the candidacy. Unless they make an amendment to the constitution. If t's any consolation, JFK was an Irish-American and the first Catholic president.

re: Snapple Fact of the Day

How about this for today's fact of the day:

Tecumseh's Curse:

Every President from Harrison to JFK that was elected (or re-elected) in a year evenly divisible by 20 (1920, 1940...) died in office, and the next two after JFK (Reagan in 1980 and Bush in 2000) both survived assassination attempts, so they could have, or in the case of Bush still could, continue the trend (pity the latter hasn't...)

Ah yes, the wonders of wikipedia...

re: Snapple Fact of the Day

Vladimir Arutinian tried to kill Bush in Tblisi, Georgia, on May 10th 2005. Bush was making a speech and Arutinian threw a hand grenage onto the podium. It failed to explode.

I remember that.

Will Sondheim ever update ASSASSINS? I mean, if Bush was ever assassinated?
#45

re: Snapple Fact of the Day

linnie is correct, but it was a half-hearted attempt.

I so don't remember that.

And, I kinda wish it would have worked just to see how Sondheim would update Assassins.

re: Snapple Fact of the Day

A bit like the attempt on Clinton's life, it was just, well, stupid, really. The guy who tried to kill Clinton just walked up to the White House Gates, and shot a few rounds at some guys standing on the lawn because he thought one of them was the President. What an idiot.
