re: The Names-You-Wish-You-Had thread

"i wonder if it's against the law to CHANGE your name?"

"of course it's again' the law."

"but WHY is it against the law?"

"because a person ACCUMULATES things around a name."

"well, what have I ACCUUUUUMULATED around MY name??"

re: The Names-You-Wish-You-Had thread

I've always been fond of my name. It isn't super duper common, so I was always the only Colleen in my class (often in the entire school) but it wasn't so uncommon that people were unsure how to pronounce it.

Names I've always liked: Isabelle and Lily.

SweetQintheLights, you have good taste in names. re: The Names-You-Wish-You-Had thread

When I was 7, I liked the name Ashley because that was my best friend's name. As I got older, I realized that not having the most common name of my generation was probably a good thing. re: The Names-You-Wish-You-Had thread

I used to really hate my middle name and wished it were Marie or Anne like everyone else's seemed to be. But I really like my middle name now.

My middle name is Alexis. Which I like much better than my NAME name. I always use Alex when I order something at Jamba Juice (or something like that when they ask your name). It's just a little more generic, so easier to spell.
This is my signature.

I hate my middle name and it is a deep secret I don't tell people.

This I do not understand. You didn't choose your middle name, so why should you be embarassed by it? It was given to you. I don't understand. But maybe that's because my middle name is also very common.

When I was 7, I liked the name Ashley because that was my best friend's name.

Ha! In fifth grade, I had 3 Ashleys in my class. My best friend was Ashley. It's ridiculous and I don't appreciate it. re: The Names-You-Wish-You-Had thread

I used to hate my name (Bernie) because it's not commonly used as a girl's name, and a lot of people thought I was a boy before I met them. I'd get flyers for open houses for all-boys schools and that frustrated me. Now I love my name. It's unique and it's a part of me.
I also love my middle name, Gabrielle. It's just pretty.
Some other names that I like are Melissa, Elizabeth (my late grandmother's name), Emma and Paige.

The only thing that I really dislike about my full name is the length. Most people have 3 names, and they aren't all long names, but I have four names, three of which are rather long! Luckily I have a first name that can be turned into a nickname.

re: The Names-You-Wish-You-Had thread

I like my first name, but I don't like that it was the most popular girl's name for the year I was born. I hated never being the only Jessica in my class. What's really amusing is that my middle name (Ashlee) is a variant spelling of the second most popular name the year I was born.

re: The Names-You-Wish-You-Had thread

I like my first name - although it's one of those names that can be spelled about 16 different ways, which confuses people, but I'm used to it.

I always liked the name Sophia. I don't look like a Sophia, but I like the way it sounds.

My name is Marianne and people always ask me upon hearing what my name is if I am really Jewish. I was named after my great grandmother Mary who came here from Hungary. I have always wanted the name Miriam. She is one of my favorite people in the Torah. My Hebrew name just happens to Miriam Rivka bat Sholom ve Yehudis. That's my name plus daughter of and my parent's names.

I love my name. I really can't see myself as anything else. It goes really well with my middle name. Kate Elizabeth.. good choice mom and dad! :)

"Sounds German".

Actually, it's Irish. It's pronounce mor-a, btw. I get so many Moiras and Maras.

re: The Names-You-Wish-You-Had thread

I have a really great unconventional nickname for my not-overly-common-but-still-conventional name. In middle and high school, some people knew me by my nickname and some by my real name. That's how college started out for me, too. But there are far more people at my Catholic women's college with my first name than there were in my high school, so more and more people have begun using my nick-name. These days, I'm pretty much only known by my nickname at school, and my family uses mostly my real name at home. But I kinda wish more people would call me by my real name. My boyfriend, for instance, was introduced to me using my nickname. We've been dating for 11 months, and he still doesn't feel right about calling me by my name. It kinda feels weird.
I starred in a short film called Magnetic Personality. Check it out!

re: The Names-You-Wish-You-Had thread

I remember not being thrilled with my name when I was younger. I distinctly remembering wanting a name that start that start with K in the 2nd grade whene I was learning how to write in script. So I had a short phased Kelly and Kimberly obsession.

I could have been a Melissa, an Andrea, or an Audrey...but I'm glad that I don't have a first name that begins with A or else my initials would have been ASS. re: The Names-You-Wish-You-Had thread Marlene. <33

I am in love with Julia, Alexis, Audrey, Devorah and Marlena (Marleighna) (And Kate, but I'm sort of reluctant to name my future child Kate because of the individuals that come to mind.)

Oh man, while helping my sister pick names for her baby, I definitely made a list of my own.
I like my name though - Kate. It suits me.

I've totally become obsessed with the name Szusza (Jhu-jha) though, ever since I met this one girl with that name. They call her Szus for short though. I just feel like THAT should have been my name, it's just so me.

But, I also love the name Ellie, Audrey, and Jolie.

Best name idea I've ever had = Beckett, for a boy, after the playwright. And I could call him Beck for short! Eek!

I don't really like my name, Lindsay. But I found an alternate spelling now that everyone uses, including teachers. Linzy. But if I could choose any name... Isabella... the most beautiful name in the world.

re: The Names-You-Wish-You-Had thread

My mom wanted to name me Candace, so she could nickname me 'Candy'. I'm glad she didn't, because I'm not very fond of that name.. though I'm not really crazy about what she picked out in the end-- Melanie.
