Aaron Sorkin's Newsroom, full of Broadway talent like Jeff Daniels, Jane Fonda, Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, John Gallagher Jr., and the incomparable Sam Waterston, premieres this Sunday.
Anyone else planning to watch?
He had me at Yosemite

Ooh, I didn't realize the premiere was so soon.
I'll be there. I've been looking foward to this for awhile.

Oh, I cannot wait. So many of my favorite actors and creatives all together.
I think its going to be outstanding. (Note: I also looked forward to Smash -- so I'm not a great barometer!)

I'm looking forward to it also.
The New Yorker completely panned it this week though.

I saw a preview screening of it earlier this week and I thought it was really good.
Out of the three previous Sorkin television series, I've only see Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip so I can't really compare The Newsroom to West Wing or Sports Night. However, it was put together really well. The dialogue reminded me of "His Girl Friday."
Jeff was fine. Emily & Tom were great, even when I wanted to smack Tom's character for being such an ass. Alison's character annoyed me a little but she was good. Sam stole all the scenes he was in. John really stood out well.
The ongoing plot formula looks decent: take a big news topic from the past and show how this fictional news team deals with it; for the pilot it was the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The relationships between the characters were set up nicely.
It's good TV and better than other crap that I've seen in this past season.

Posted: 6/20/12 at 6:52pmI was an extra on it, but I don't know what episode. They filmed all the NYC scenes for the season in like 4 days.
#11The Newsroom
Posted: 6/20/12 at 8:29pmIt takes place in 2010 covering the real news at the time. A lot of the pans I have read are turned off by the conceit of how that newsroom nails these items that were in no way instantly understood by even the people who won awards reporting for them. Plus Sorkin is not one to not write what is on his mind. Reviews also think of these characters out of the Sorkin factory adjacent to a lot of characters on his older shows which people will either love or hate.
