Oh, my bad!
You know, I could actually see "The Right Man" in like a 1940's/50's big MGM musical or something.

Are the writers of "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" credited on "Candyman"? I think the chords are almost exactly the same. I love "Candyman", though. "He makes my cherry pop..." Hee! Brilliant.
I also think it should have been just one CD instead of 2, cutting some of the songs. I could do without the overindulgent, masturbatory songs such as "Oh Mother", "FUSS", and "Thank You".
I'm also really impressed with the way she sings on "Save Me From Myself". I can't believe the restraint.
Kevs: agree completely
The restraint is remarkable. And I also agree that this could have been one CD. While it's a nice reward for patient fans who have waited a few years for new material, some of it is just unnecessary, and clogs or muddies the album with tracks that, while they're nice to hear, don't necessarily contribute to the effect I think Christina was shooting for.
I think the "easing in" of the throwback style could have been done well and perhaps to greater affect with one CD.
Still, going to give it a few listens before I commit to putting it on my iPod.
Even with it's flaws, I still think it's either one of the best, or THE best cd to come out this year. It better win some award!
spider...did you see the "back to basics" special on MTV? She performs a bunch of the songs, and just from hearing what she performed on that (I won't be able to get the CD til Friday...) I just have to say that I am in LOVE with Candyman...
No, I didn't see it. But, I FREAKIN' love "Candy Man"
Me too!! And when she performed it, she had on that outfit that is part of your av...
Finally got the CDs! YAY!
I have to admit I don't care that much for the first CD but the second is just AWESOME!
There's not much to add to what has been said here before...
I'm with Spidey about the favourite song. "Candyman" is so much fun! Thank God no one saw me swinging along while listening to it!
And I'm really glad I'm not the only one who thinks it sounds a lot like "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy". I guess that's why I love "Candyman"...
Was anyone else reminded of "42nd Street" at the beginning of "Welcome"? Awesome song, too!
EDIT: No one has mentioned the "look" of the album, yet! (Besides the cover..)
How HOT are those pics in the booklet, please?
Oh God, I know! HOT HOT HOTNESS abounding throughout that booklett. Also, I love the glossy texture to it, instead of the paper texture in many others.
Kevs, I thought the excat same thing the first time I heard it. I'm so glad I'm no crazy. (Well, at least when it comes to that.)
It is very similar to "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," but I sang the words to "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" over it, and it didn't really fit. But, I think that was the intention of sounding like that. **shrugs shoulders**
My two word review: Hurt. Candyman.
Ok, a third word. LORD!
hahaha. So, I think that is a positive review.
With every listen I like "Welcome" a little bit more...
"Hurt" is just beautiful! Also one of my favourites!
And listening to "Candyman" while painting a room makes that work so much easier!
The thing that I like about this album (and "Stripped"), is that it's autobiographical. She writes songs about things that are happening in her life at that moment. Other people's songs are pretty much just written to be hit songs.

I've never, ever been an Aguilera fan. Her range is impressive, but I think she sings to be showy a lot, and just don't enjoy her style. But as an open-minded person, I decided to purchase Candyman on iTunes after all of the buzz around here.
I'll be damned if I don't love it! I've listened to it six times already.
I'm still in shock. I am digging a Christina Aguilera song
P.S. Papa, I love A New England. Billy Bragg was the best. I enjoyed Kirsty McColl's version as well.
I love the album more everytime I hear it.
I've really only listened to it all the way through once, and I was underwhelmed. I was expecting more for whatever reason. I think the 2nd disc is MUCH MUCH better than the first, though.
Ok, this CD is my new Emancipation of Mimi. It is friggin' genius. Totally agree, however, that some songs should have been cut from the first disc and should have been made into one CD. The second disc is leaps and bounds better. The first is very nice to listen to, and has two really outstanding tracks: "Makes Me Wanna Pray", and "Understand", (which has a SICK beat), but their isn't one song on the second that isn't stellar.
"Welcome", "Candyman", "Nasty Naughty Boy", "Hurt", I love 'em all. If I was forced to pick a song that I wasn't significantly impressed with, then it would be "Mercy On Me", which is still a great track. I think "The Right Man" might be Christina's masterpiece. Maybe I just love big, melodramatic, 50-piece orchestra ballads, but it is dead-on in capturing the feel of a Lesley Gore-type 50's ballad. Whoever said that it's like something from an MGM musical, you're absolutely right. And she still, somehow, makes it all her own. And she f**kin rocks the vocals on that song.
Christina has NEVER done anything this good. It's gonna take a lot to top this, though.

i havnt decided if i like it yet or not. im in between right now. but i will say it deff has a different sound to it than most albums today so i deff give it credit for that!
I don't usually listen to Christina's music. I've always liked her voice but never made an effort to listen to her music. I haven't listened to Disc 1 at all, but Disc 2...is amazing! She's really got me in her fan camp with this disc.
Funny Face--I completely agree that "The Right Man" is her masterpiece. That is actually becoming my favorite song of hers after "Candyman," which I love because I am a HUGE Andrew Sister's fan and this is in the style of them.
According to billboard.com, Christina's "Back to Basics" cd reached the #1 spot in both The US and UK. This is her first #1 album in the US since her debut and her first ever #1 debut in the UK. Good for her!

Linda Perry should write a musical. That woman is so freaking talented. And though I felt that way before this CD, this CD cements that feeling for me.
And Christina's vocals, particularly on that second disk are just freaking stunning. Everytime I listen to those songs, I am more and more impressed by them.
I just finished listening to the whole CD, and I have to say... It's genius. Genius. It's a really incredible, unique, and ambitious album. Her vocals are just getting better and better.
My favorite tracks...
"Candyman" (great throwback, with irresistable echoes of "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy")
"Mercy on Me" (amen, sistah!)
"Save Me from Myself" (quiet and effective)
"The Right Man" (very powerful)
I really liked all of the tracks, and I need to give it another listen.
Christina's next Grammy? Coming right up...
