But seriously, keep an eye on the dancing.
Adam mimicing Tamyra's dancing was hilarious. They're jsut silly enough to make it work.

I like your signature, dancing
Thanks. It kind of relates to how I was feeling at the time (and still kind of am) - plus I just like it.

she's so cute. I'm feeling similarly right now, but it's due to writing a paper that I don't care about and taking way too much time..
My plan for seeing the show tonight worked out really well. I was at the box office around 3 pm, and scored tenth row orchestra dead center. i really do think they must release some house seats around that time.
So... once again I feel so lucky to have been at this show. Their very first show was one of the most exciting events I've ever attended, but I realize now that everyone was feeling their way a bit. Adam was incredible tonight, and Tamyra was much better than the first time I saw her. She really nailed Out Tonight, which led into an electrifying Another Day. I can't put my finger on what made it so good, but the emotions just seemed to flow.
The other big standout for me was Goodbye Love. Adam was incredibly emotional. Some of you may remember a version from 1997 with Marcy Harriell that's been around. Well, Adam had all that emotion, except that he was in control of it. You felt at any moment he might go over the edge, but he never did. I doubt if he's ever performed the line "Mimi did look pale" better. Anthony stepped his responses up accordingly. The scene between them was devastating. Tamyra was much more emotional for her section as well.
As for the rest of the cast, I liked Troy Horne a little better this time, and Justin Johnston a little less. I agree with those who feel he needs more heart and less shtick. I didn't mind Nicolette Hart's voice last Monday, but tonight it grated on me. I don't know if that was a function of her performance or where I was sitting. Merle Dandridge was excellent, as she was before.
All this is very subjective, of course, and I'll be interested to hear what stood out for Tink and anyone else who was there tonight.

I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the show.
orangeskittles and I have prepared a list of Justin Johnston's nightly gags.
1) Squawking during Today 4 U
2) Crossing the drumsticks at Benny during You'll See
3) Happy New Year dance
4) Shaking his leg at the ugly coat in Christmas Bells
5) "Center of the universe" dance
There are others, but I think this covers the most obnoxious ones. But please, feel free to add.
OMG! Tonight totally blew away last weeks performance. I don't know if it was just getting more stage time under their belt together or what, but they just rocked the crap out of it. Anthony was Anthony, perfect as usual, but Adam just bumped up his performance like 20 times if you could imagine that. He was full of power, angst, and just raw emotion, but still not over the top. I don't even know how to explain it. Tamyra definitely stepped it up, and her and Adam are REALLY starting to mesh well together. I actually loved Justin a bit more tonight, but I still think they have NO chemistry during "I'll Cover You" and that really sucks. Troy's ICY:R was really touching and emotional. Merle rocked. But they took her out of the playbill and had a slip in the playbill for her, so I guess tonya is due back any day now.
Maureen annoyed me as usual. Not so much during Over the Moon this time, but WAY too "shrieky" during TMoLM. The shimmy was the same in LMC as the last time, but the song itself was much better performed. He did do a new "erection on the high holy day" schtick.
I really don't know what else to say, lol. Just that it was 10x more amazing than last week, and last week was just amazing. They are just having so much fun up there. Oh, and he did not mess up any lyrics, but a few times I think (just my opinion) he got caught up emotionally in a song and it took a second longer or so for the next lyric to come. No biggie. Stage door was just as crazy if not worse. We didn't stick around.
Saw the show tonight. Adam was on point emotionally. His vocals were balanced and he looked engrossed in the part. I noticed a few lyric mishaps that only a seasoned viewer would pick-up on. Overall, impressive.
Anthony was electric and Tamyra is now my favorite Mimi and I've seen several. She's tough as nails and doesn't miss a beat. The chemistry between Tamyra and Adam was slightly awry (reminiscent of Adam and Marci, but more voilent) and a bit see-saw (one minute very genuine, then the other very prom date).
The rest of the cast, Benny stood out above all. Not that any of the others were weak, it was VERY difficult to hear them especially on the group numbers. The SOL soloist has a brilliant voice but she has an issue of singing behind the beat. This drags the song all over the place and breaks the 4th wall as several audience members in our section were making the pick up the pace gestures as the song played out.
Stage door: Nicolette, Anthony, Tamyra. that's it. Adam slipped away I guess. The crowd was unbelievable and not well behaved in a pushing sense. I do not recommend the stage door.

paulie23, did you see Rent with the OBC (or at least in '97ish)? How do you think Adam and Anthony's performances compare to their performances from years ago? Your description of Tamyra and Adam's chemistry seems about right.
Ugh, Merle is leaving? She's the only Joanne I've liked in YEARS. And Tonya Dixon performing onstage with Adam and Anthony...ugh. Blasphemy. I hope she doesn't leave before I get back.

Oh, yeah, that's not inappropriate or rude in the least bit. Why not just yell out to Nicolette "Stop shrieking!" or to Justin "If you do that stupid kick ONE MORE TIME..."

"If you do that stupid kick ONE MORE TIME..."
Don't give me any ideas!
Skittles, I think I saw somewhere that Merle is extending, but I'm not positive. I hope so, she's really good.
Yup, don't worry, Merle will be there until the begining of September!
Mayumi is leaving this Saturday, though. And Antonique Smith is back as the standby Mimi for awhile.

Nice reviews! It's interesting that they're getting better.
Sounds like they're really settling back in! So excited to see the show again next week, especially since I didn't think Merle would still be there!
Apparently Adam snuck out one of the other front doors last night unnoticed. My friend said the stage door was madness last night and people were getting trampled. I saw her pictures- I think it looked worse than last week.
That sneaky Pete, good thing he got out un-harmed
I swear someone is going to get hurt at that stagedoor, they really are. Is it still mosh-pit type madness there or are they figuring out other ways to control the fans?

I think they're trying, but I doubt they'll be able to do anything. If fans want to be nuts, they'll be nuts, even if there are barricades
Antonique is back? Yikes.
Heh, it's kind of funny that people are SO engrossed by what goes on by the barricades that Adam can literally slip out unnoticed just a few feet away.
I hope Merle stays. She's my first and favorite on-stage Joanne.
I'm wondering if Adam has been deciding to stage door based on the crowd size. I can't say I blame him at all, last night sounds like it was a bit scary. On Monday, people had to wait about 10 or so minutes before anyone came out the doors, so the crowd thinned out really quickly. Nicolette and Luther Creek came out first, so since people either had trains to catch or were impatient, by the time Anthony was out the door I would say the crowd was only about 5 people deep on one side, and still manageable everywhere else. And the crowd was relatively calm! I hope for their sake that they get more crowds like this one and fewer like last night.
Great reviews! Goodbye Love is fantastic, isn't it?
Goodbye Love was indeed fantastic. Tamyra really took it to a new level at the end of it.
There were a couple Lincolns waiting more towards the end of the street. Most were probably for audience members, but one could have been for Adam. Maybe he snuck right out the door, into the car, and then drove by the madhouse. I wouldn't blame him. The crowd still went just as nuts when Anthony came out ( I believe). We were standing around the corner more towards 40th st and you could hear the screams!
What I will never understand is why in their right minds these kids think that screaming, shrieking and chanting will make the actors WANT to talk to them, or ingratiate themselves with the actors in any way.
This is me trying to avoid my family...didn't know if any of you have seen these yet.
Oh, Tinnnkkk, I especially thought of you when I saw these.
OH, the black. OH, the arms. OH, the chest hair.
Can someone get Tink and I drink, please?
OMG!! New wifebeater pictures, yay me! Jenna, you are so good to me!
