Gah! Those pictures are amazing!!!!!!!! I love them!
I first heard about Rent when I read this book that my family has. It's a book from Life magazine and it's subtitle is like A Century in Pictures. They had a section on "The Great American Musical" and I remember reading about Rent and it said that the creator died before opening night. I remember reading it and showing it to my mom and saying isn't that sad? I was only about 10 at the time.
Aw, Dancin, is your ankle okay?
After all this time, I still have a weird envy for people who are discovering Rent for the first time. It's a special moment.
My friend had me watch the movie version of Rent, and I loved it, so I asked to see the show on Broadway and did (twice, so far).
There is that weird sort of... point of no return feeling, heh. I remember experiencing that with Company. I wanted so badly to experience the rush of the very first time all over again, even though I knew that was impossible.
Ariella, yeah it's fine. It happened about 2 weeks ago and I tried to post about it on the boards, but it ate my post. It's a lot better.

Dancing, I remember you said you hurt your ankle at dance camp, and I noticed your avatar. I meant to ask if that was you and if you're okay - glad to hear you're doing better
Cute avatar, em. I love Adam's guitar strap - even though it's "Roger's" it still suits Adam. And I'm crazy about Anthony's hair.
The feeling of falling in love with a show is so great. It's like that new crush feeling
Thanks. I saw this picture and couldn't resist, as attached as I was to keeping Bobby up there.
lol at the lizards.

is anyone going to the show next week?
Meeeeee.
Sweetestsiren said she's going next week also.
I hope you write about the show next time, Emcee. I've been looking forward to reading what you have to say.

I'm working on something now. I probably will write about next week's show as well, but I really want to get something down about that first reaction. It was a few days before I felt like I could even THINK about writing something, but then once I was ready, I didn't really have the time or the energy. It's slow going, and I may not actually post it publicly, but soon.

I went the opening night (monday) and I am going back this friday night (taking my daughter)...I am excited to see the difference...I thought it was incredible, the july 30th performance...but now that I have read some more of the reviews...it seems it could even be better now! hard to imagine...but I am excited to see it....again!
Awesome avatar, luvtheEmcee!
The feeling of seeing Rent for the first time on stage is ard to top, but this might do it.
They will out-do almost everything you have ever been blown away by before. Seeing them in the show, full-force, was better than Rent 10, and I thought that could never be topped.

i agree with you emcee....i thought rent 10 was one of the most incredible evenings of my life! but, somehow, seeing anthony and adam in full character during this run....had been even better...
yay for Em coming over the the RENT avatar dark side!!! :) It probably took you 20 minutes to click the submit button! hehe
Hee. I think I was hunting for just the right photo. I must admit that it's only temporary, though. I think Bobby will more or less be my staple for quite some time. When I first joined, I went MONTHS without changing my avatar. Then I got into the habit of changing it really often, but that Company picture was just SO stunning that I couldn't take it down. Homage, or something.
I'm excited if Anthony and Adam can do just that. It'll be awesome. I can't wait.

That Tony picture is amazing, what great shots that guy took.
I'm surprised you said this is better than Rent 10. I see why, because they are fully immersed in their characters now, but I still wish I'd seen the whole OBC perform together one last time.
tink, your avatar just reminds me of Adam's opening song as Freddie in Chess.
hehehe it does, doesn't it!
Thinking about him in Chess always makes me smile!

I just hear the line "I'll be glad to oblige" haha.
I heart Chess
Well, for me it was... but that's a huuugely personal assessment. This just... was a lot heavier (in a good way) for me. I still haven't QUITE figured out entirely why yet, although I have some pieces of the answer, I suppose. With Rent 10, I felt like someone took my wildest fantasy and just kind of dropped me into it. Because it was so expensive, I had no intention of going until they lowered the ticket prices a few days beforehand. For three wonderful causes, no doubt, but I just could not afford a thousand dollars. That isn't an issue with The Return so long as things are kept in moderation. The reunion, though, people knew that was coming. This was something I never in a million years expected to see at all -- whereas Rent 10 was just something I never expected to experience. I don't know I'd say this was better had it been a different pair of roles being reprised, but the fact that it IS these two, by virtue of the roles themselves and the performers, means a great, great deal to me. I think this was somehow more powerful because even though it's not all of them, they're losing themselves in the roles, whereas Rent 10 was a hybrid concert-performance.
Sorry, that's totally not articulate.
No it made perfect sense. I think if it had been just one of them coming back it would have still been exciting, but nothing could compare with the two of them back at once! That was beyond my imagination.

I know what you mean. You're so lucky to have experienced both, tho! Rent 10 looked like it was so much fun.
This is really just amazing. I love the fact that they both agreed to do this, and that they are really putting themselves into it so fully. It's going to be really sad when they leave because for me it just feels like, very final. Like the end of the OBC generation. Not to say the show still isn't great, but I don't know. The period of time when Rent first came out - 1996, '97, '98 was just so great for me in general. A lot of wonderful things happened, so I think I partially attach the OBC of Rent to it. Now, seeing that 10 years have passed and that everyone is older and moving on is just emotional, for me at least.
Anyway, I really want to see Anthony tomorrow at the Chatterbox, but I don't think I have time! I always love hearing his interviews, he's so candid and honest
Oh, by saying that this is better, I don't mean to downplay the experience of Rent 10 at all. It was really just like walking into a dream. Over a year later, I still don't know how better to describe it. It was this perfect celebration of everything Jonathan's work in Rent stands for. It's sort of that frustrating kind of thing, with The Return, where you know how you feel but you can't quite figure out the why.
