Not having been at RENT 10 I'm not speaking from experience, but having seen in pop up magically on my computer screen, it was good and probably beyond amazing to be there, but there is something about the costumes and REALLY singing the score, and the props and just the full cast energy. In RENT 10 it still seemed like it was Adam, Anthony, Daphne, etc. just singing the show as them, but now it is completely Roger & Mark you see on stage. I don't know if that made sense.

No, I know what you meant It is frustrating and for me, things take so long to sink in that I won't even bother to push myself to articulate anything yet, hehe
With this, I tried to just let it all sit until I felt like cohesive thoughts were beginning to materialize, but even when they do, I still have this weird obsession with trying to figure out exactly what I feel and why. Which is frustrating.
It's just one of those things that are so exciting that you're in shock for a bit. Which is probably how I'll be.
Of course, now that we're talking about The Return, there's an advertisement on the side of my screen. :)
we were watching SNL reruns on the "E" channel on Saturday. A commercial came on and said "This show is spondsered by the Broadway show RENT, now starring original cast members Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal" we almost lost it, it was so exciting and surreal! we live in California, so to see a national commercial was so cool.

That's cool, robin. What were the ads like?
That's so cool! I'm going to be watching my TV constantly now hoping to see it, since it's national apparently.
z100 is still advertising it on the radio. It's nice to hear it. Especially in between phone taps. :P Kidding, but it's nice to hear it.

haha the phone taps
here's some cute stagedoor pics of Anthony - his expressions are priceless
they are adorable. he looks like he's concentrating so hard in the last one
my gawd, Anthony is adorable in those!! the crowd, however is terrifying!
the commercial was really quick, just the graphic thats been shown in the ads on this site, and a voiceover mentioning "our guys": the original castmembers. I don't think they mentioned Tamyra. I was watching TV with my daughter and we both looked at each other, totally taken by suprize. it was too funny.
Those pictures of Anthony are cute.
Emcee, it's interesting to see what you have to say about Rent 10. I was pretty bummed at the time that I was flat broke and couldn't afford a ticket, but now I'm almost glad I wasn't there which just seems weird to me. This may sound weird, but Rent has always been the show I go to when I need a bit of a pick me up, or even just a few hours to myself where I don't have to think about anything outside of what is going on inside the theater.I plan on going back at least 2 more times before these six weeks are up, but I really can't imagine myself going back to see the show once Adam and Anthony are gone. I feel like I've gotten everything I can possibly get out of the show, which is just so weird. Anyone else feeling this way?
I got really lucky: it just so happened to fall at a time where I had the financial means to go. It was right around my birthday, and I had just received several very helpful monetary gifts.
And yes, I agree. I've been thinking quite a bit lately about how I can almost see myself, after this, not going back until it's about to close. I had a really hard time going back after Rent 10 because of the fear that I'd be disappointed when I returned, but that's the kind of thing where if you can learn to regard something like Rent 10 and the actual show as two separate entities, you can overcome that fear. Rent 10 was an event in and of itself that *cannot* be replicated, but this is different because it IS a the show itself, not a riff off of it. They're breathing a vitality into the show that it'll probably never experience again, and I just feel like going back after they leave won't be fulfilling at all. I've had a lot of wild personal experiences with Rent in the past couple of years, about since the movie went into production, and every time something big happens, I always feel like that's the peak of the mountain -- like it can't possibly out-do itself any farther, can't get any better. But this may really be the pinnacle. And that's totally fine with me. What I got when I saw them last week was what I think I had always been looking for.
It's interesting that you mention feeling like you've gotten everything you can out of it and how weird that is -- because I know the opposite so well. I'm entirely too familiar with that feeling of... not having had enough time. With Rent, I don't feel as though I've worn it out, or saturated my experience, but I just feel like it can't ever possibly surpass this, and it seems even more negative than typical masochism to willingly put yourself in a situation that you know won't be satisfactory. Even if you go into something knowing it won't be what it was and not expecting it to hit that level, it's still, I think, inevitable that you'll be let down -- even if somehow subconsciously or emotionally, assuming you've told yourself you know what it will and won't be. Does that make sense?
I'm so tired, ugh. Probably not terrible coherent.
The thing with anything live, especially theater, is that if the show is excellent the first time (or any time, really), you can't be sure if it'll live up to that the next time or if you'll just be disappointed. Luckily, Rent had been better the second time I saw it, but I know what you're talking about.
I find it interesting to see Rent, or anything, when the cast has changed, because then you get to see different performances, and peoples' different takes on the characters.
The Anthony pictures are cute.

there's a few clips of Adam from bb kings on the site that won't be mentioned. I am really starting to like the piano/vocal version of Glory that he does, it's growing on me. Now I want to see the show again.
I feel like with their Return, there isn't enough time. I know it cant last forever but, it's going to be very sad when they leave
Long-running shows (like Rent) that have been around long enough to get tired, I think, hit a certain point where they are highly dependent on the cast. Newer shows, for some reason, maybe not so much. But I guess that's at least partly because with shows that have been running 8, 9, 10 years, there's rarely anyone "exciting" in them, and there's that perpetual actor/audience energy feed. Sometimes shows get tired when the audience response is blah, and then people don't go see them because they're in bad shape, etc. Rather than something new that you "have" to see, they become things that are just sort of there.
I'll be sad when they leave, I guess, but their stay isn't really long enough to get used to the idea, you know? Six weeks will fly and it'll be over before we know it, and things will just go back to normal over there. It's not like with a show that runs nine months and you're used to it being there whenever you want to see it, anad then suddenly it's just gone. For me, at least.

For me it's not just about their 6 week run, there's other issues tied into it as well. None of which I'm willing to admit on the boards, hehe - but I hate transition of any kind. While this is a really, really, really amazing treat it just all feels like it goes so fast. And now I'm thinking of Our Town, I need to stop and go get a tan

My favorite:
Their ownership rights were apparent from the beginning. Pascal as Roger Davis, the hero, suffering from AIDS and composer's block, who wants to write "One Song" before he hangs up his guitar, looks more handsomely haggard than he did in 1996, but still seems perfectly age-appropriate.
As for Rapp, playing his friend, the nerdish, documentary filmmaker Mark Cohen, he doesn't seem to have aged a lick. Whatever it is he's drinking I'd like a few slurps myself.

soap opera? hehe
I am so on a mission right now! I checked Adam's myspace today and someone has a pic from last night's stagedoor as their avatar thing. Adam in a black sleeveless Iron Maiden shirt!!! I really actually squealed out loud over this. Not to mention I think I have the same shirt.
Is it bad if I messaged the person and asked to see the photos?? I googled and checked the LJ but have found no other photos so far. I am waiting to see if she doesn't think I am a freak and responds, lol!
I was just about to say, interesting way of describing the plot :-P I also love all the new pictures everyone's been posting!
People do way weirder stuf on MySpace all the time.
lol, I know, I am just usually not one of those people! :)
I have complete confidence in your research abilities, Tink.
