I hope I can go to BB Kings next month. It's difficult since it is a Wednesday night, but I am praying I can get a ride there.

Yeah, the wed night thing is weird. In some ways its better because the traffic wont be bad, but its such a random night to have a show
Have fun at the concert, gertrudejessalynn! It sounds like it will be interesting. Knowing Adam, it will be.
I wonder if he and Larry are going to debut another new song...
I hope everyone has fun tonight either watching Adam perform live or seeing Anthony Rapp!
Chloe: I'm sorry I didn't answer right away last night, I had a lot of studying to do and only a little online time. But for my English class we had to perform a speech on someone who we thought was couragous, and dress up as said person. I chose Raul because I thought it was very brave of him to publicly come out in the NY times; and I also respect his abiilties as an actor.
So after all is said and done; not only did I recieve 100% on my speech, I was voted most couragous of my class and recieved 10 extra credit points My teacher came up to me afterwords and told me how proud she was of me for taking such a difficult subject matter and truly feeling the emotions of the character.
AND because I worked very hard on my last quarter grades; my parents are considering letting me audition for a local theatre production of Oklahoma. So today was a pretty swell day indeed(except for my math test, but that's another story!)
That's awesome! Congratulations!
Thanks GuitarGirl
That's quite an achievement Brina - it sounds like you certainly deserved all those accolades. Congratulations! School (especially high school as opposed to college) is a difficult format to address those issues, so very cool. I'd love to read your speech if you ever felt like sharing
Can't wait to read the report, gertrudejessalyn. Have a fantastic time!
Congrats, brina! And yay for Oklahoma! It's one of my favorites.
Have fun, Rach.
Brina - that is phenomenal! Congrats!!!
I was searching for a thread on movie musical adaptations and came across a thread from October 2004, where someone posted to say that they heard Adam was in LA testing for the Rent movie. And all you old school Adam thread snobs attacked her! :-P It's hilarious to read in retrospect everyone basically denouncing this poor person sharing the news.
I'd probably be ashamed if I read that. In defense, we had no reason to believe... but no reason not to either, I guess.
I kind of feel bad for her now But I guess back then I could understand why people wouldn't believe it. Didn't he just close AIDA right before then too?
Yeah, he had gotten the part by mid-October, so it was right around the time that AIDA had closed and he was doing stuff to promote the release of Civilian. I remember how shocked I was to actually hear it from him. A friend and I asked him about it, and he told us it was as good as done.
For me, I think I didn't WANT to believe it. My relationship with that film is really complicated.
I'll ditto that. For me, when it first came out, I refused to listen to what others said about it. I loved it, and I thought it was the best thing since sliced rye, end of story. But over the year I began to realize (sp?) it's faults; and that there where some major revisions that should have been done. Especially since I saw the stage version, all I could think about was "Wow, why couldn't they have done that for the film?" I also had the same issues with The Phantom of the Opera film.
It's understandable; there were so many rumors flying about the Rent movie at that time. I just didn't realize how old this thread was at first, so when people were adamantly questioning the validity, it was amusing.
In other news, Rent is NOT among the worst musical adaptations. Has anyone seen South Pacific? I thought the show was bad enough, but the movie? Ugh! They turn orange and purple!
There are many things I could nitpick about the movie **coughAdamshiarcough**, but overall I still love it. It's there to cheer me up when I am in a foul mood!
I'm actually glad I wasn't around here at that time (not that I knew anything about Adam at the time, other than that was the name of the original Roger.). I probably would have gotten my nerves shot over nothing.
I'm surprised that I didn't have a stroke in the months leading up to the movie.
Phantom was SUCH a missed opportunity. It could have been amazing. The cinematography was gorgeous; it really is beautiful to look at. But Gerard Butler cannot freaking sing, Emmy Rossum cannot freaking act, and Patrick Wilson is a treasure, but his hair was awful.
This is repetitious for many of you, but we have some newbies. I went through a really long period of just not wanting the Rent film to happen at all. I felt like well enough should just be left alone, and that no matter what, it wasn't going to turn out right. I didn't think it was okay for people to be making decisions that Larson should have been making himself, in theory. Once it was cast, I tried to warm up to the idea, and after spending a night on the set and seeing how much care and love was going into it, I was sold. I believed in it, too. So, so much. My friendship with one of the cast members also complicated the process of awaiting the film, but not in a bad way, it just kept me from being as removed from the process as I could have been. I loved the movie then. I needed to. I still love it, but everything's always clearer in hindsight.
At least Rent and Phantom didn't use color filters or contain horrifically offensive Asian stereotypes.
Picky, picky, skittles. But I must agree that the movie version of South Pacific feels awfully synthetic. It's hard to remember the level of emotion generated by the Rent movie news. It seemed like there was new stuff to get excited or indignant about every day. Fun times.
I'm waiting to hear if Adam does indeed have a three-piece band now. He's been talking about adding a drummer for a while. He also originally talked about doing something from Aida, which hasn't happened yet. I guess we'll know soon enough.
A drummer would be fun.
I would love for those things to happen Chloe, but I am selfishly hoping it won't be in time for the BB Kings show. If it does, I am going to have to start seriously scheming about ways to get out of work.
