When I took my mom to see RENT she thought it was OK, but it was not her cup of tea (she'd rather see South Pacific

)
I think the thing that bothered her was it brought back alot of memories of my deceased uncle (her brother), who in many ways was like a combo of the characters Angel and Roger. He was a drag queen who lived in San Fransico, and had a few cabaret/rock acts out and about during the mid-80's (He was kind of like Hedwig only without the sex change). Unfortuantly he contacted HIV, and lived nearly 20 years with it until he died in '99. Apparently he saw the OBC of RENT and was in love with it; and when he would visit my family he would play the album for me (I don't remember this, but my mom brought it up while we were watching the film). It's kind of funny, now that I think about it; I was sort of RENT baby! That's probably one of the reasons why I'm so passionate about the show in general I guess. My friends think that the only reason why I like RENT is because of Adam and they call me 'Rent-head'. But truth betold everytime I see the show, or listen to the album; I feel a connection with my uncle that I never truly got to expierence. That's the power of this show; it really draws people in and you have this connection with the characters, which is really amazing to me.
