Heh, and he spelled inadvertently right!
I'm too sleepy to say anything remotely coherent about Rent. But that's what it is more than anything, really -- weird. The idea of it not being there will take some getting used to, that's for sure.

I make a point to avoid any online political debate that includes a Ron Paul crazy.
It's interesting just how many people have sent me the link to that Daily Show clip, telling me I have to see it. I saw it air, bitches, where have you been and why haven't you been watching The Daily Show?

Some of the posters would say the exact same thing, just replace "Obama" with "McCain".
I loved Samantha Bee's segment the other night, where she spoke to Republicans about Bristol's "decision." And the guys celebrating small town values at the convention. I do miss Larry Wilmore; he was great during the primary, but they haven't had him on lately.

Stewart has been excellent with his convention coverage. It's nice to have him in MN.
His reporters have done a great job revealing all the hypocrisy (Rove, O'Reilly, Palin...), and John Oliver was pretty great in the Larry Craig airport bathroom. It's like, MN's most famous landmark now.

I'm sorry, but the name "Ron Paul" just...reminds me of an adult film star's name.
Honestly, the "drill baby drill" chant at the convention made me throw up in my mouth a little. Especially when juxtaposed to Palin's slide show photo of her next to that big, dead moose.

If they are going to combind both nights that they taped then are they going to be taping tonight so they can add the curtain call and if the OBC is there what they are doing?

The Daily Show's being doing great work these past few weeks. The piece that compared the RNC to Hurricane Katrina was one of the funniest, most biting things I've seen in a long time.
I can't really fathom that Rent is closing tonight, but I hope it goes out on a high point. I'd rather not see anything as forced (and anticlimactic) as the Rent tribute on the Tonys, but I hope they do something special. This is one time that I'd give anything to be there for the closing speeches.

I listened to a few Rent songs today, and I felt sad knowing that today was the closing. I'm not sure I really would have wanted to be there, since the last time I saw Rent it was amazing, but I think it would have been nice. It'll probably sink in more tomorrow, when it's actually gone.
My little sister is upset, actually, because she said that when she was old enough she wanted to see Rent on Broadway. She's still not old enough, and she's upset that she won't get to see it. Although if it stays on tour for awhile...she might get to see it live, even if not on Broadway.
And Adam wasn't there for the closing? I find that...a bit odd.

Well, if it's true that alumni were only given one ticket each and that was strictly adhered to, then it's really not that odd. A friend of mine is friends with an alum who had to call and beg for a ticket. And he had been with the show for several years. I think it's sweet that Adam gave his ticket to Will, who hopefully had the time of his life tonight.
I need to catch up on TDS and TCR last week. I kept falling asleep too early to watch them, and last week was a bad one to miss because I'm sure their takes on the whole Sarah Palin thing were nothing short of genius.

Huckabee, his politics notwithstanding, is an insanely likable person and a great sport. I don't want him to be president, but he was a lot of fun as a candidate. His appearances on The Daily Show/Colbert/SNL, etc. were really great. Brian Williams has a good sense of humor, too.
Apparently there weren't any speeches after Rent, but I'm sure it was a great experience.

There are already some videos on Youtube of the Seasons of Love Encore from tonight.
I got kind of emotional, to be honest, but the fact that the tour is still yet to come makes me feel better.

I agree. I think any speech would have almost been unnecessary.

I think I might watch them tomorrow. I haven't even had time to think about Rent this week, other than now and on Sunday. I was sad, and then things distracted me, so now I'm a bit less sad. Watching those videos tomorrow or Sunday might really make me miss it, though.

I'm glad there weren't any speeches. If, after finishing "Seasons," that was it, I feel that's a more fitting tribute/ending. After all, pretty much everything there is to say has been said about Jonathan and Rent, so letting Jonathan's words and music be the last thing is how it should be.
And really, "Thank you, Jonathan Larson," will, for me, always be all that needed to be said publicly and let the show be for each individual what it is privately.
Agreed. I haven't read much about the final performance, but from what I did gather, it seems like they pretty much just... did the show. And I think that was the best thing to do. I will miss it a lot. It's been very good to me. I heard they want to put Hair into the Nederlander. While it'll be weird to go back no matter what, I think that's very right.

Wow, a screening of the unfinished film. That should be interesting. At least the movie is getting...somewhere.
